American Gangster
American Gangster stars Denzel Washington as a druglord turned informant. It looks badass.
I realized that I really like Denzel Washington in all his movies. I can't think of any really bad movies that he's made.
Anyways, click on American Gangster above to check out the trailer.

I heard it is true story about a man who smuggled heroin in soldiers coffins out of vietnam in to the USA in the 70's.The film looks amazing 70's chic, Ridley Scott is a great directer.

The use of Jay-Z (og sample from "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City" by the Bobby Blue Bland) works so well.
Mos definitely looking forward to this film.
I had the Bobby Blue Band track on repeat for a week. Fucking love that song.
apparently, the NY Mag article I linked above is the inspiration for the movie. Recently, the NY Mag had a conversation with Frank Lucas and Nicky Barnes. Article Link
Nicky Barnes has a documentary based on him called MR. UNTOUCHABLE, which is produced by Dame Dash.
I'll probably see AMERICAN GANGSTER tonight, and will report back later.
Good movie. Not great.
Recommended. Then again I'm biased because the trailer was badass, the articles I've posted were badass, and I believe the movie was done right.
My Spoiler Free Review:
This movie is among many other "true crime" stories that have been consistently following one after another. So i cant help but have a mindset of "how will this compare to: Zodiac, Munich, The last king of Scotland, the hoax, blow, breach, and exct...."
I have been starting to feel detached from these "true story" movies. Just seems easy, and i leave with a feeling that it was a good movie but not that entertaining, interesting is not the same as entertaining.
When i left American gangster i really had a sense that the director, producer, and actors turned an interesting story into a very entertaining one.
they did a great job of showing two parallel stories while avoiding the very temping side plots that usually bog these movies down.
So i would say if your getting sick of all these crime dramas this one does stand out above the rest with a very simple refined end product.
Denzel did a great job of adding a calm confident patience to a powerfull charector. "the loudest one at a party is usually the weakest one"
It was a pretty good gangster flick even though nothing ever happens.
I thought it was a let down and a horrible flick. Very by the numbers and it's insane how people are fanboying it up saying it's the black GODFATHER and bullshit like that. It's helluva marketing campaign they did though. Denzel is really good as always but it was just a big dissapointment. I hated seeing all these rappers in bit parts, really took me out of the film. Armand Assante is always a pleasure to behold though. Russel done got FAT.
I will say this, the final scene is fantastic, really loved how they did that. But the film in itself? Bland. Shame on your Ridley Scott, shame shame shame.
Has Ridley Scott made a good film since blade Runner?
