Album of the Last Year You Can't Live Without...
For me I have a couple.
Sparta - Wiretap Scars
AFI - Sing the Sorrow
The Mars Volta - de-loused in the comatorium
Everyone else?
I found absolutely nothing last year to be other than completely disposable.
i got glenn brancas ascension, i think that was RE-release this year. other than that im straining my brain to think of an album that i would have smacked myself if i didnt buy it and i just cant. maybe later who knows.
and if your talking about last year than flaming lips- YOSHIMI
and again if your talking about last year didnt deloused come out this year and same with HTTT
Beck- Sea Change
Ben Kweller- Sha Sha
Strokes- is this it? (i think it came out 2001 but whatever)
i guess i'm kind of confused by what you mean by "last year" but a few recent releases i'm so glad i bought:
coldplay - a rush of blood to the head
moe. - wormwood
the slip - angels come on time
radiohead - hail to the thief
The 'Lifted' album by Bright Eyes. Surprise.
There is hope, but not for us.
conor oberst is the most depressed fuck in the world. he should do what ian curtis did, and stop being a pussy
yes...because suicide is always a great solution. *scoffs*
"There are problems in these times,
But, woo!, none of them are mine!"
Lifted is a great album, and I'm sure he's not the MOST depressed person in the world. I mean, come on, six billion. But my pick is The Ugly Organ by Cursive. Its amazing.
We'd all like some real friends, but what are the odds of that happening?--Cheif Wiggum
Definitely Hail to the Thief, and Think Tank by Blur was pretty good.
oh god i was just saying skank. dont scoff at me. ian curtis tried to kill himself 3 or 4 times. finally succeeded. but in my eyes ian curtis was never as depressed at oberst. and only reason im saying it is for conor oberst its a total image and its fuckin pathetic.
don't take my post so seriously. half the time i'm talking out of my ass anyway. but as far as joy division's music....i would have to disagree with you. their music is way more depressing to me than bright eyes will ever be. plus, i happen to be a fan of both bands.
a few of bright eyes songs (i.e. bowl of oranges) are almost borderline happy.
"There are problems in these times,
But, woo!, none of them are mine!"
Afi - sing the sorrow..
The WhiteStripes - both albums
Musiq soulchild - I justwannasing
About the Oberst image thing, I don't think it is. His music with Bright Eyes has been pretty down since, like, 97 or something when they started making music. But, this is a sidenote, a friend told me he's one of the top twenty hottest guys in YM or something, that bothers me. But his other band, Desapreciados, is not depressing at all. And so what if he's depressed. Most people are. Its just they are too chicken shit to admit that they are week, and sad, and lonely. When people tell me they've never been depressed, I tell them they are liars.
We'd all like some real friends, but what are the odds of that happening?--Cheif Wiggum
That post really didn't have a central thought did it? I'm sorry, its 3 in the afternoon and I don't think too well at this time. I'll be back later tonight, with 25% more cohesiveness than before!

I just have to say that that AFI album blows.
Ugly Organ and HTTT are both up there...
I guess I'd have to say Hide the Kitchen Knives, though by the Paper Chase.. Yeah, who saw that coming... Also Rua by Clann Zu.. Both of those are almost over a year old, but oh well... Of course, Rua hasn't even been released in the US yet, so you could say it's 'new'.. heh.
i um...would answer this question but i'd prob. get the dates wrong and shit.

In the last 12 months I guess then...
To each their own, but that AFI album to me is fucking great. It's got a range of shit that you can just lose yourself in, and it's a great CD to write to...
Just wondering though.
When people say something "blows" or "sucks" or "insert the adjective here" why do they feel that way? I figure if you have the energy to say, "This sucks" you can at least say why. Although, I guess something that do suck are just beyond words...
Um, do you mean LAST year as in 2002 or the last year as in the last 365 days?
In the last 365 days:
Cephalic Carnage - Lucid Interval
The Mars Volta - Deloused In The Comatorium
YOU FUCKED THE WORST, NOW FIGHT THE BEST!

Okay then. Well, to me it just sounds hair metal-ish.. And just.. no good, lyrically or anything.
Did you read my post. It's proof that I just post and don't read anything..........
YOU FUCKED THE WORST, NOW FIGHT THE BEST!

right but what i've bought in the last year hasn't necessarily come out in the last year.

That would be my second pick.
And anyone else who disparages Connor Oberst, I will track you down and punch you in the face. Thank you.
There is hope, but not for us.
I checked them out once and didn't really care for them.. I'll have to listen again, cos I've heard good things about them before, and they looked like they'd be good.. and I could swear I'd heard a song of theirs before I really liked... So many times I'll listen to a new band and just not give them the chance they deserve and blow them off.. then months later I actually listen to them and love 'em.
conner oberst is a carbon copy of everything thats considered shit in this world hes pretty pretentious and that whole emo schtick hes got goin ::vomits:: and man never put IAN CURTIS in the same sentence as oberst its a stab in my gothic reamed heart jk godspeed and INTERPOL turn off the bright lights is my fave from the past year!!!

::lands a devastating right hook on archer's ear::
::standing over him:: hope that gives you a charlie horse, mufucka!

hey theres a movie where one guy socks another guy in the neck, and hes like dude you hit me in my neck, and the other guys like oh sorry dude let me try again. Whats that from? standing over her u mean insomno. dude u hit a chick thats fucked up
Well, Insomno's a chick, too, and you can call her Kitty... So yeah..
Catfight!
*offers godspeed some popcorn*
And that's from the -book- version of Fight Club, in the movie, he hits him in the ear.
oh thanx for clarifying the fight club thing (man i feel stupid for forgetting where that was from, look where im posting)and the sex of insomno, i would have though she was a he with that " dont be steppin to my girl yo" my bad insomno. *takes popcorn and pulls out lawnchair*
I get the feeling that the ear thing was a mistake on Ed's part, and Brad just went with it.
I remember reading that part of the book, and seeing it in the movie for the first time and thinking how realistic that was. You always think you're going to be the shit in a fight until you actually try it.
yeah it was kinda funny. he was like FUCK you hit me in the neck/ear i laughed
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head.
Neko Case - Blacklisted
The White Stripes - Elephant
Sleater-Kinney - One Beat
yeah im a girl of 18 years old and my cooters detachable you know just like that song and some times it gets away from me and you never know it could be for sale at MAD MGEES HOUSE OF CUNTS so just so you know please return it to its rightful owner if ever i shall misplace it but i semed to have learned my lesson the last time the french whore with the tits from india gace it back to me all dented and bruised so in conclusion i seemed to have stepped on some toes and yeah my ears all bloody now but i no longer am an isomniac overdosing on XANAX so thank you to all the shots to the ear in the name of love AMEN.
i tend to go off the tangent a little bit but insomononmaniac i wont step up to yo girrl cuz damn shoogah thaz mest up ya herrdd me sweet DYN-OMITE and thanx godspeed on the clarification of my sexuality fo shizzle ok ok im through playin ms FOXXY COFFEE im as white as the smack in my veins!!
Mars Volta, Interpol, Radiohead, and maybe Placebo's Sleeping With Ghosts...it's really starting to grow on me.
Then again, I might be wrong.
was writing to mars volta last night...great, great, great CD to just zone off to
1) Thank you for the defense, kitty.
2) Archer Dylan is stupid.
There is hope, but not for us.
Another CD that I've listened to a lot over the last year is one by Dredg. Saw them open up for Sparta, Glass, and Hot Water Music on the Sno-Core Tour and their sound was really unique. El Cielo is a great buy for anyone who wants more of that same "zone off" music when they read, or write, or whatever.
last albums i bought that i loved:
Fischerspooner: #1
PJ Harvey: Stories for the City, Stories for the Sea
Mars Volta: De-Loused in the Comatorium
Lightning Bolt: Wonderful Rainbow

MOM is that you??.....sure does sound frightingly familiar ::reverts to childhood memories::
04-Donnie Darko score
03-White Stripes - Elephant
02-RadioHead - Hail to the thief
01-Datsuns - the Datsuns
In my humble opinion, AFI are in the same league as Blink 182, good charlotte or avril lavigne. The only difference is they dress better and look "cooler", but their musics fuckin terrible.
Placebo had it and then lost it. They peaked with "Without you I'm nothing" and have been going downhill since. Ever since Brian Molkos tried to hide his baldness, their whole "too cool for everything" attitude seems a little too Brock for my liking.
I'm glad nobodies listed St Anger yet (street Anger as my bro calls it)
that restores some of my faith in man kind.
If anybody lists St Anger, I'll poop myself.

ST. ANGER!! fuckin rawks bro like totally ::waits in gross anticipation for midnightriders bowel movement::
Excuse me. I've seemed to have had an accident. That was my favorite pair of speedos!

Radiohead's Hail to the Theif is quickly becoming one of my favorite albums of all time.
Suck me beautiful...
