Adaptation
k forgive me if this thread is already created, but i dont see flicks int he theatres so thats why its up now and not a while ago

this flick was awesome man. i odnt know where to start. i love the idea of how throughout the whole movie Charlie is told that ou cant make a movie about flowers, you cant have voice-overs, and you cant have a movie about protagonists with no real agenda. but yet this whole movie breaks those rules, i love it. this movie is a requirement for any type of writer, escpicially screen writers. theres been so many times when i try to right down these ideas and i feel exactly the way Charlie did. sitting there "i should take a break, go get a coffee. get a coffee after you written soemthign as a reward. i need a break", thats when the flick really drew me in cause thats exactly how i am lol
what did everyone else think of this film? does anyone know if Charlie Kauffman and Donald Kauffman are real? i heard they were fictional but theyre talked about as if they're real.
is it just me, or is chris cooper in *everything*?

Wow. This little thread got CRAZY. People telling me to abuse my girlfriend, people showing an alarming lack of respect for women as a whole, people questioning my masculinity in some kind of bizarre machoistic pissing-contest. Hell, I even got called stuffy.
Psycho, the point of the end where it gets really cinematic (They find the lady, she's having sex with the guy and snorting drugs, then they're chased and his brother dies) is that his brother, the one that doesn't have any writing skill takes over the story because the uninspired brother called him over to new york, and thus changed the ending of the ACTUAL movie because that is what he was working on in the movie.
It is a really fucking strange, and a really fucking genius movie in that everything makes sense in about 3 different ways.
i totally didnt even see it that way epony. the movie really involves you, i can totally now see how it started off dramatic and original (charlie) and ended with races and guns and characters overcomming objectives (donald). pure genious
word.
i hear that. quicktime with the backwards high five epony
by the way epony. another awesome part for an animated avatar from that music video is when gwen is licking moby's head
Aha. I was actually just sitting there for like 5 minutes while making the avatar, going back and forth between that scene, and the scene I chose. Lick the head, or Evil Moby. Lick the head, or Evil Moby.
I chose Evil Moby, because I think myself both Slightly Evil, and Slightly Moby.
Who knows, if I think myself partly Stoic Moby and part Gwen Stefani's tongue, I might do that scene next.
Donald: I'm putting in a chase sequence. So the killer flees on horseback with the girl, the cop's after them on a motorcycle and it's like a battle between motors and horses, like technology vs. horse.
Charlie: And they're still all one person, right?

another good one would be going between the two in front of their big shiny signs with their names on it
I LOVE this film. So many awesome things about it. The instant I get home from school, I'm going to rush out and purchase it. Anybody rent it yet on DVD? What kind of special features are there? I'm dying to find out. I hope there's some cool shit. Anybody know if there's word of a Special Edition or anything of the sort? That'd be pretty bitchin'. More of the extras I get, the happier I'll be.
I saw this because my friend gave me a chinese pirate copy. I love the bit about the subtitles, and the opening scene is just amazing.
rents theres nothing on it for special features. nothing at all dude, still go get it tho
That's a bitch. No worries, I'll get it.
yeah, its worth it alone so its all good
The first 15 minutes totally engrossed me...
... Followed by the next (felt like 10 hours) period of time making me want to tear my hair out.
I just didn't like it.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
to bring back a dead board, i finally saw this movie. Fucking awesome.
oh and to answer the unanswered Charlie Kaufman is real, donald is not. "Oroborus"
I really like the idea of having a movie about a guy writing a movie that you can't do. I think that alone made the movie noteworthy.
However, it did drag ass--more than the theme allowed--and Cage's dual performance was a bit much. Also Streep annoyed the hell out of me--more than her character was supposed too. Cooper was amazing, by far the best acting job in the film, and for me, he solidified me wanting to continue watching it. I dare say, if it wasn't for him, I would have turned it off.

No, your thinking of Samual L. Jackson.
no that's philip seymoure hoffman. and the other guy who everyone lumps in with philip seymoure hoffman, the guy with the curly brown hair and acadamy award nomination

That was the point. The whole last third is different from the first two, simply because it was "written" by Donald. It includes sex, drugs, violence, huge twists, everything Donald would include in a film, while Charlie said he never liked those, but needed Donald's help with his film.
glamhoth,
i think you're referring to John C. Reilly. Like PSH, he's a character actor that is in just about every movie.
YES HIM! thank you.
nice movie B+/A-
I think at some points that the movie was trying a little too hard to be deep and introspective.
But I do think it's hilarious that they were given money to turn the book into a movie, but really turned it into a movie about trying to make it into a movie. Makes me laugh. Or..... guffaw, I suppose.

There's just never enough room for all the quotes that seem necessary.
About 15 minutes into the movie I turned to my friend and said "Holy shit! I am looking at myself in 25 years." At first I hated the whole "Donaldesque" climax because It was a little too over-the-top, but I now let it simmer and it actually showed a good contrast. I think Charlie gave himself a twin brother in the movie to represent the temptation whitin each artist to just follow the crowd and sell out. As you can see, in the end the hunger artist actually survives and the "panther" dies (therefore it's not quite as depressing as Kafka).
I can't wait for Charlie Kaufman's next movie... I think its some kinda sci-fi drama or something. It sounds wierd.

I thought it was okay. I didn't like it much just because it was a little boring to me. Also when meryl streep and the flower guy are trying to kill nicolas cage's character....I thought it was a little forced...just didn't fit in smoothly.
But whatever. I might've been in a boring movie mood anyway where any movie would be boring.
