Scientologist, let's not be mixing up our cults now. Scientologists believe in aliens.
the only thing good about this thread is the title, which i think is brilliant--though by accident or not, i'm not sure.
as far as cruise being a good actor, i can't agree with you there, though i thought collateral was great and he did a fine job. i can't think of many cruise movies that i like, but war of the worlds is looking promising.
Minority Report was an excellent film.
i like tom cruise
I like many of the movies he's done and some of his performances, but in real life (TV's and Interviews constitue "reality" from here on), it seems to me, he's hiding from an awful lot os personal baggage behind acting and Scientology.
I was here. Then I wasn't. Then I was again.
oh yeah, minority report and vanilla sky were both goodish.
scientology was created based on a short story written by kurt vonnegut.

He does, though he's a bit off of late. It's hurting him publicly with the recent Scientology pushing and the love fest and what not.

of course
In the higher ranks of the Scientology Church, they recieve the truth that we on Earth were seeded by space beings to whose brotherhood we are supposed to eventually return. This is what I've read and seen from investigative journalists and researchers.

Moromi!
Moromi!
The combined forces of Moromi and Lil'Slugger might be too much for some people, even cassun.
Although, maybe we can use that to defeat those crazy scientologists.......
On a side note, an old friend I see once in a while is a volunteer minister in the CoS. For as intelligent as the kid is, when it comes to the scientology crap, I seriously want to slap him when he runs off into some explanation. I've never heard him go off into the aliens business, but his little "I research the right explanation" stuff just gets boring fast.
The whole auditing business sounds like a subversive mental mindfuck. He wanted me to come take their "test" (which is really a mild auditing session) to see if I had the smarts to become one. Thankfully I never did. Oh and those world-wide "state of the world" broadcasts they have at their churches just scream of acceptable cult.

I didn't know Kurt Vonnegut was involved (if indirectly) in the creation of Scientology. I have it on good authority that L. Ron just entered into a drunken bet with some writer friends as to whether or not he could create his own religion.
BTW, Scientology is about how the evil space-lord Xemu gathered up the excess population in the galaxy on earth and killed them by dropping A-bombs into volcanos, and years later our bodies are haunted by dead alien ghosts, and that's why we're so screwed up, and psychiatry is evil, but you'll need to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn this otherwise the knowledge could totally kill you.
War of the Worlds - Doubt it.
Collateral - Good.
The Last Samurai - okay movie but not that good a job of acting
Minority Report - Liked it, he played well
Vanilla Sky - meh
Mission: Impossible II - sucked
Magnolia - liked the movie, pretty crappy performance
Eyes Wide Shut - Sort of liked it, he did okay
Jerry Maguire - okay
Mission: Impossible - bleh
Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles - Did well
The Firm - ...
A Few Good Men - Did okay
Days of Thunder - Did okay
Rain Man - good
Cocktail - fit the part, did a good job
Top Gun - Liked it, acting was sufficient
Risky Business - I liked this movie, he did good

No no no, Scientology is the weird celebrity religion with the aliens. Christian Science is the one that believes no one ever really dies and you can't go to the doctor and stuff.
There is hope, but not for us.
Just to clarify for everyone, Kurt Vonnegut had nothing to do with Scientology and probably considers them all dipshits.
So it goes.

to clarify: kurt vonnegut wrote science fiction stories that poked fun at things in a dark and subtle way. some idjit roommate of his in college (l ron hubbard) read one of his stories and mistook it as a sign from something and created a religion out of it. i'm going to try and hunt down the story for ya, it'll just take me some time because its not on the top of my priorety list.

Man, I never heard of that. I would've thought Vonnegut might have mentioned it in one of his self-refferential passages since it's a very good example of humans being very very stupid.
Anyhow, Kurt is an athiest and a cynic and no doubts thinks Ron Hubbard was nuts.
I was here. Then I wasn't. Then I was again.
definitely.
All I could find was some claims that a bigraphy of Vonnegut, maybe his own autobiograpghy books, menations Hubbard's alleged quote that, "The best way to get rich is to start a new religion/cult."
