I think 28 Days Later is a good movie, but it's not great. I enjoyed it best as a cynical vision of apocalypse, not so much a monster movie. My only beef is that the plague logic doesn't make any sense --that is, a virus that acts within 15 seconds wouldn't survive for very long; the hosts would be dead (from killing each other) too quickly, and it's very unlikely that it would spread outside of Britain (thus the other European armies could just nuke it). And I kind of doubt that after everyone had tried to flee the island, the characters would just happen upon a supermarket filled with food.
But I didn't mind that too much. The movie is very good, however, at creating a sense of danger all the time, and you never really know where it's going or who will be killed. And I've always liked the idea of a holocaust that wipes out humanity. It reminded me of The Quiet Earth and Night of the Living Dead.

i thought the beginning of the movie was the best part; the latter part was good but not as good as the beginning. it looked amazing and was defintely creepy and a throw back to night of the living dead even though they are way different.

i was also wondering the deal with how they shot a lot of the open shots and i saw an interview with the director who said they stopped traffic for brief periods of times by setting up road blocks with really good looking girls and that way they didnt have to pay anything, the traffic was distracted for a short while so they could work on the shots.

Man, I was so disappointed by the end!! I really was surprised that this was pointed out by only one person here ... (if I remember right)

"28 Days Later" looks and sounds so damn great, and it would have been a BRILLIANT film with a better ending (and EVERY other ending would have been better, in my opinion). With the actual ending, it "only" is a good movie ...

Anyone here already having the DVD?! I have heard that there is a different ending as storyboard drawings on there. If this is basically and essentially different, mabye Boyle was forced by the film company to do the shitty ending instead. At least, that's what I like to hope ...

There were tons of similarities with that movie, another movie I can't think of right now, and Dawn of the Dead. When they got gas for the car, it was almost exactly like when they filled up the helicopter in dawn of the dead. They both even had to kill zombies that were kids.

The alternate ending, to make a long story short, has Jim dead. I think the one they were going to use was Jim died in the hospital after getting shot, and then the 2 womens and a... dog or some other animal are flagging down the airplane instead of Jim.

I'll honestly say, I didn't like the movie. I could write out about 25 HUGE errors I noticed, and they've been annoying me more and more as time goes by because it just doesn't make sense for someone not to resolve it/fix it.

But, I did love the idea, and the direction/cinematography. Extremely nice looking, and half of the movie was good. The other half was riddled with problems though.

Ok, so I know this thread is ages old and probably no one will read this but I thought I'd share anyway...
I just heard that this Friday (July 25) this movie will be out for 29 days and they're going to re-release it with a different, darker ending. Apparently, this news came out of the New York times. Not sure if it's true, but we'll see I guess. Cool idea if it IS true...

Wow, what an odd first post, you're very concerned about this misunderstanding, hunh? You could say that a disease causing people to act like zombies bears more resemblence to the real life "zombies" which were people who had been given a cocktail of drugs that would bring them to near death and put them in a 'zombie-like state'.

You could almost say that it's been brought back from the dead!

I hate slow zombie films, slow zombies seem boring to me because I'm quite swift.
