Yeah I know it's nearly March already so this is a little late, but what are the movie you're most highly anticipating this year?

There are tons, I can't remember them all now (hopefully some of the ones I've forgotten will pop up here as a reminder), but along with Watchmen, which comes out in a couple weeks, I'm definitely stoked about:

--The Road
--Where The Wild Things Are
--Das Weiße Band (I'm not sure what the translation is but it's Michael Haneke's new film so I'll probably love it.)
--9 (hands down one of the best trailer I've ever seen)
--500 Days of Summer (re-teaming Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Daschenal, who I'm in love with)
--G.I. Joe
--Terminator: Salvation
--X-Men Origins: Wolverine
--Star Trek
--The Brothers Bloom (the follow-up film from the guy who made Brick)
--The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 (the original was amazing, and after watching it the first thing I thought of was, I kind of can't wait for this to be remade)
--Whatever Works (Woody Allen + Larry David = Awesome), --Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
--Public Enemies
--Sherlock Holmes
--Inglourious Basterds (I'm not hugely stoked for this, but it's QT so it should be fun)
--Alexander the Last (from the guy who did LOL and Kissing on the Mouth)

There's tons more, but mostly smaller and obscure-er stuff.

a couple of years ago i was very excited for 2009 because a ridley scott version of cormac's blood meridian is definitely enough to keep me excited for a couple of years. though, last i heard, he was almost afraid of doing it, thinking that he couldnt do it. or so, it seems he scared himself off the project..

the road, yes, i will see. opening day, probably.

transformers revenge, i'll get to. other than that, though, i'm not real excited about movies this round. ho-hum

Public Enemies--Christian Bale, 'nuff said. Also, I like Michael Mann and I'm really excited to see this movie. Think it'll be a good one.

I'm eager to see

Inglourious Basterds
Watchmen (please don't suck)
Where the Wild Things Are
Coraline
Up!
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Edgar Wright's (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) next, an adaptation of one of the only graphic novel series I can tolerate. It's about a guy who, before he can sleep with a girl he's fallen for, has to defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends in mortal combat. Check out the books.)

Those are my 'biggies', but I'll probably wind up catching all the big sequels and such too.

I believe this could potentially be one of the best films for me this year. it looks very promising and I'm very anxious to see it. I plan on seeing it in imax.

i don't need your thanks.
just my opinion on it.

CORALINE was great. But I saw it in 3D, and I'd recommend that as the way to go. It wasn't perfect, and certain parts kinda fell flat, but overall, it's the best adaptation of Gaiman's work to date.

9 - I enjoy the trailer, even though it seems a little too much like a PS3 game ad...

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is high on my list, along with most of what's listed here.

What?! I didn't know they were making a movie about this! I looove those books.

Edit: I just looked it up, and apparently Michael Cera is slated to play Scott. That's....that's something.

IS THIS WHY YOU WON'T BE IN THE ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT MOVIE, MICHAEL!?

The Men Who Stare at Goats.

Based on one of the coolest books I've read. An exploration of the military's use of whacked out new age concepts for use in warfare. The title refers to a group of psi-soldiers assigned to try to kill goats using only their thoughts. You can't make this shit up. What's scary, without giving too much away, is how high these nut jobs rose under GWB's reign and how nobody was questioning their actions.

All star cast as well. George Clooney, Ewan MacGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Fucking Bridges.

Also Watchmen. I spent many evenings watching them film the movie - heavy use of rain machines.

I just traumatized my 5 year old with Coraline last weekend. She kept asking me afterwards if that was a dream the girl had or if it was real, and if it was real, could her dreams turn real? But only one screaming nightmare so far, so I think she's ok.

I'm so out of the loop, I've hardly heard of any of these movies--I'll have to find some trailers online and catch up.

I can do you one better. I've written a musical centered around a David Icke follower and his skeptical best (only) friend. It will be on the Fringe circuit this year. It's got singing/dancing lizard people!

does 9 remind anyone of an apocalyptic little-big-planet? and by the way it looks incredible, nothing short of a Tim Burton movie

I've never been intrigued by the words "Tim Burton presents..." enough to want to run out and see the film, but 9 just blew me away and I'm definitely going to make an effort to see it in theaters.

A few more:

"Hunger", directed by Steve McQueen
"Horsemen", which would look like a typical dumb serial killer movie if it wasn't for Zhang Ziyi.

I can't believe I forgot this since it's probably my second or third most anticipated movie this year, but Jim Jarmusch's new film, a murder mystery/thriller starring Bill Murray, Gael Garcia Bernal, Paz De La Huerta, Jiam Abbass (from The Visitor), John Hurt and Tilda Swinton, called The Limits of Control. Now I dare you all to come up with any part of that sentence that isn't completely awesome.

i can't believe i forgot one of my top 5 favorite directors jean-pierre juenet is finished filming his latest:
micmacs a tire-larigot.--roughly-- shady goings on, non-stop--
all it says about it is,
A man and his friends come up with an intricate and original plan to destroy two big weapons manufacturers.
hmmm

I hate that I remember the commercial jingle for the introduction of the Zartan action figure:

"He's the evil master of disgui-hise!"
ZARTAN!
"Changes color right before your eye-hise!"
ZARTAN!

I need to go on a game show and put this useless knowledge to work somehow...

I read that he is on board now.

My ex had the first two Scott Pilgrim books, they were pretty good. When the library here re-opens I might try to get hold of some of the later ones. I'm not sure how they're breaking it up to go into the film, if it's all the ex-boyfriends in the same film or if they're planning on making more than one film.

Might go and see The Class sometime this week, technically it's a 2008 film but it's only just been released here.

Hopefully I'll see Watchmen later this week, pretty excited about that. I'm interested in seeing how The Road turns out too, I think that would be quite hard to pull off.

A couple of movies from Sundance stood out, Push (not the recent superheroish movie) was supposed to be good. As I've said before I have a soft-spot for thoughtful sci-fi so I'm interested in Moon.

I really want to see the new Shirlock Holmes movie since it's supposed to be closer to the books. Terminator and Watchmen, and I still need to see fanboys. Nothing else looks interesting right now. Hopefully something good will come along later this year.

Rob Zombies Halloween 2 (I hated the first remake but I am a fan of those movies so every time one comes out I am first in line)
The Informers (Though I heard it sucked)
Tokyo
Where the wild things are
The Soloist
Inglorious Bastards

I can't believe i missed this thread either. It should be a fantastic year for film. Already had a few great films come out and it's only March.

The one about the IRA hunger-strike is directed by a guy called Steve McQueen, so presumably he does.

They made this movie called "Assassination of a High School President" that's having trouble being distributed, it looks pretty damn cool. It's apparently Mischa Barton's best role to date, and she gets naked! Wooo!

Yeah I've been meaning to see it, I might try to rent it on DVD. Although it seems like a film that I'd have to be in the right mood to watch, from what I've heard it's not exactly a feel-good movie.

And yeah, that Steve McQueen died, this is a different one. A British artist, I think he normally does film based installation-art.

Well like I said, he's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. They're all heavy dramas, but they're so humorous too if you get his sense of humor. For example, I'm 100% convinced that he made Broken Flowers to be a pseudo-sequel to Lost in Translation--same actor playing a similar character, similar acting style, and it picks up basically right where the other left off.

But yeah, give him another try, let me know what you think.

OK, one down: Watchmen was great. Also, I'm ashamed to admit this but I want to see both that sequel to Paul Blart: Mall Security, starring that hot chick with big nice tits and that fat slug dude from that stoner movie, and I kind of want to see The Hangover, too.

Also, I auditioned a bunch of actresses for a film I'm trying to put together and one of them had inside knowledge into The Road, and she told me that it's been bumped back to November. Which is good and bad--bad because I really, really want to see it, but good because that means they expect it to be an Oscar contender.

They had a Terminator one before ours and seeing a little more of what the story might be like, i'm now over halfway interested in seeing it. it was at just like 33% interested in seeing it because of christian bale but now I'll probably actually go to a theater to see it.

I saw one of my must see 2009 films a few weeks ago, a French film called Martyrs. It's getting a cinema release here in the UK this month I think. If you're in England I recommend trying to see it on the big screen.

hmm I saw this last year and I was so looking forward to seeing but I just didn't like it. I thought it definitely had its moments but I wouldn't watch it again. It seems to start off as one thing then turns into something else which makes it feel a little disjointed. The violence was also very...I can't think of the right word but it was different...the constant and unrelenting beatings etc didn't even make me feel uncomfortable it was just empty.

I read about this a little while ago, it just seemed like a French version of Saw.

One film that I do really want to see is In The City of Sylvia, it's just been released in the UK. I was considering seeing it last week in London, but I probably would have dozed off in the cinema. Apparently it's coming to the art cinema in Cardiff early next month, so I'll probably see it then.

I read about this a little while ago, it just seemed like a French version of Saw.

Oh no! it's far from the Saw series. It does have torture scenes but it's mostly put onto one character for an awful long time, think it goes on for at least half an hour?

It's part of the insanity of the people doing the torturing. Have to see it to see how it all fits without giving anything away.

The violence was also very...I can't think of the right word but it was different...the constant and unrelenting beatings etc didn't even make me feel uncomfortable it was just empty.

It was a very bleak film for the most part. I thought it worked rather well, I guess the empty feeling helped with the atmosphere, what the girls were going through. That's what I got from it. It had a satisfying ending for me too.

The director of Martyrs is doing the 'remake' of Hellraiser, think he is perfect.
