2000-2009: The Best Movies List
Brokeback mountain was totally fucked up, no realism at all.
Mr gyllenhaal is the first to wake up in the tent, then he wakes up Mr Dead Joker and then suddenly Joker is spitting on his dick. I'm just sayin that if I woke up i'd be the one wanting to give some dick.
RUINED IT FOR ME!!!! AND FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

And those fags were about as much "cowboys" as I am. They were just some ranch hands in the 1960's!
It's shot well and the acting's great, but that's it.
Uh, that's because their homosexuality was central to the story. I'm pretty sure everyone's tolerant when it comes to heterosexual couples. This movie was REALLY good, in my opinion. I never saw that it was overrated, just overhyped (and not due to how good it was, just the controversy).
Their homosexuality is central to the story the same way that heterosexuality is important to most standard romance movies. There is nothing exceptional about being gay and it's stupid to pretend like there is. It's a touching movie, but so are most romances. The focus of that story should be about how they ruined the lives of their families through their selfishness and cowardice.
But now i'm just getting argumentative and confrontational when i've really no desire to argue about this movie. Like whatever you want.

Nooo, the story wouldn't have made sense without them being gay. How else would Jake's character have been killed through intolerance? How else would Heath's character have been so reluctant? If they were made anything else, their motivations would be completely different, and that wasn't the point of the movie. There was definitely something special about being gay in this context.
Alright, whatever you say, eddy.

You said, 'in this context'. I might be mistaken, but I think he meant in general, there is nothing special about being gay.
How else would Jake's character have been killed through intolerance?
What if he were black and gay! Cuba Gooding Jr. coulda had another Oscar!
If he was also retarded, that would've helped.
I think I understand where you're trying to come from, Eddy, but you're missing the overall point of the story in terms of location, time, and sociology.
That's what I thought at first (it would be the only way it made any sense), but it seems he's actually talking about the movie itself, which is ridiculous to me. Whatever. He doesn't want to talk about it anyway.

No, i understand all that. I just don't think it makes it a good movie. I was being over-belittling on purpose.
I'll overly belittle you like Heath Ledger and a handful of spit!
...too soon?
Nah, he's been dead since 07.. or was it 08? Either way, you're okay.
This thread is the Dude, Where's My Car? of the 2000-2009 best threads list...
I hate you so much right now.
..
I liked him a lot too, Imke. Don't be sad.
I just think it's okay to joke. Hell, I was hearing Michael Jackson jokes hours after he died. Granted, it's a bit disrespectful to speak ill of the dead I suppose, but it's just a joke.
it's not that they are dead.
It's just, Heath was awesome.
M.J humped children.
You don't joke about good people.

i thought he was hooked on pills and painkillers just like MJ was.
People say that it was because he got so into the role of Joker that it fucked with his head. I even heard that Nicholson warned him to be careful with the role, because it messes with you.
That Nicholason bit is a bunch of shit. He was actually pissed that they didn't ask him to play the Joker again.
Anyway, there's nothing wrong with joking about the dead. They'd probably laugh, too.
Really? He was upset? Interesting. I had just heard it, but I wasn't sure if it was true about him warning them. Honestly though, why would he be asked again? He's old. And his joker already had an established image, whereas Heath Ledger's could be started fresh.
wasn't there like a huge outcry among fanboys when they first named him as the Joker and then when they came out with that picture they all settled down?
I think it would be easier to do movie catogories first, then think about the best of the decade. So-
Best Drama, Action, Horror, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Animation/Kids, Comedy. Any other genres that should be added?
!
Adult...

My nominees
Action: Casino Royale
Drama: ... How the fuck would I go about choosing one for THIS category? It's impossible...
Horror: 28 Days Later or Saw
Sci-Fi/Fantasy: Naturally between Return of the King and Star Trek (too soon, I know, but I just fell in love with it)
Animation/Kids: Between Shrek and Finding Nemo
Comedy: Superbad... or Juno... it depends on my mood.

I can see both Casino Royale and 28 Days Later on the top of their respective lists, but none of the others. I think the 1st Lord of the Rings was far superior to the 2nd and 3rd, so that'd probably top my list, and although Star Trek was really good, there's some really great low budget sci fi movies of the last few years, though, like Moon, The Fountain, Special, Sleep Dealers, and a bunch of others.
As far as Lord of the Rings is concerned, Alex, are you looking at that from a filmmaker's viewpoint? Or purely as a viewer?
100% as a viewer. The first movie made me nearly piss my pants it was so good*. The second and third were exciting, but one, they didn't have the surprise element that the first one hand, and two, they got progressively more bloated. They were all excellent, I think it was a masterful series, something that'll always been looked at with an air of holy fuck how'd they pull this off-ness, but of the three, the only one that blew me away was the 1st.
* I had to piss about 45 minutes into it, but I refused to go because I didn't want to miss a second of the movie. That post-movie piss was probably the longest of my life.
Were you even able to comprehend what was going on in the movie? If I have to pee, that's all I can think about and it's like: "Ugh, this sucks... Dammit, argh." The movie's just sorta playing in the background then for me.
Okay, so here are the one's I can think of so far:
Drama
Synecdoche, New York
Caché
Adaptation
Comedy
Royal Tenenbaums
Horror
28 Days Later
The Orphanage
Sci-Fi
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Solaris
Moon
Primer
Action
The Dark Knight
Maybe one of the X-Men movies
Animation
Monsters, Inc.
Wall:E
The Incredibles
!
Iron Man > Any of the X-Men movies, even X-2 which was rad.
Hmm, I don't know about that. I've only seen Iron Man once but I think I prefer the X-Men films.
!
You're weird.
I still say Ironman was okay until the end fight with the evil iron robot.
He just doesn't have any good classic villains.
Magneto > Bulky Retard Ironman
noething is has strong has ironam!
500 days of summer is about to finish downloading.

Magneto > Bulky Retard Ironman
Yeah, I'm with you on that. I'm not much of a hero-person, it's the villains that make it for me. I think that's why I prefer The Dark Knight over Batman Begins. Even though Batman is one of the best heroes around I still don't find him that interesting, I'm care more about a decent villain and The Joker was the best (and Twoface is pretty cool too).
!
You know, I have to agree with you that the first one was the best of the three, or at least the most enjoyable to watch. I've been dying to see Moon.

By the way, The Dark Knight beats all super hero movies, with Spider-Man 2 next in line. The Incredible Hulk, with Norton, was pretty great, too. It was my first Alamo Drafthouse experience, so I'm bias towards it.

What a great fuckin' movie.
Spiderman 2 was easily the most disappointing movie I've ever seen. There's not even a close second place.
And yeah, 500 Days of Summer was so fucking enjoyable, and so surprisingly good.
This fuckin' movie. ^
fixt
Almost done watching Moon, which is also great. It's a different experience watching movies at home though.
Behold! The power of EDIT!
And yeah, 500 Days of Summer was so fucking enjoyable, and so surprisingly good.
Seriously? I thought it was far more emotional than any other super hero movie (besides The Dark Knight... maybe). It had the classic debate of whether to choose your own comfort or your duty to the world. The fight scenes were pretty great, too.
But this is all opinion.

The story was shit, it combined story elements that should've been spread out over spiderman 2 and 3 and crammed it all into 2. The action with Octopus was pretty sweet, though, but otherwise it was awful. The only good thing about it was that it really lowered my expectations for Spiderman 3, which was fucking godawful.
Me and my boyfriend went to see Spiderman 3 at the movies [We didn't really know what it was gonna be like] and we were like: "Is this for real?"
Well, I don't see what would have had to spread out. He becomes confused of what he wants. He decides to quit. He's forced to see that his life can never go back to being normal. He saves the day. I don't see this being split into anything. I saw the transitions as extremely smooth, and the emotion didn't skip a beat. Doc Ock's acting was quite cheesy, but that's probably my only critique.
