Hi,
Part of the English course I'm taking right now is a 6 week research paper project where we have to research a particular literary topic. I've decided that I'm going to do something along the lines of the recurring themes in the works of Kurt Vonnegut, and I was wondering if any Cult members could provide some guidance as to which books of his I should go and get to analyse? I've already read Slaughterhouse 5 and Cat's Cradle, both of which I enjoyed very much, and I'm very interested in finding out more about his books.

Thanks in advance,
Nith Sahor

One of my personal favorites was Slapstick, and you wouldn't have a very difficult time bridging themes between that and Cat's Cradle.

I agree with Proton.

Haven't read but four of his book so far, but Slapstick is my favorite to date. Wish Tuff was still around because he's read everything by Vonne, even every short. But with my limitations of knowledge, Slapstick was too badass.

You absolutely have to read Breakfast of Champions.

I went out and bought Hocus Pocus a few days ago and I started it this morning. Slapstick I finished yesterday and I liked it a lot (especially with the miniaturized Chinese and the Green Death Smile Big). And is it just me, or are there some similarities between Slapstick and Fight Club?

Slaughterhouse Five is the one to start with. And if you don't like it, then you have at least read one Vonnegut...

But if you want to continue, Breakfast of Champions is must read.

i don't understand why anyone would ever like "breakfast of champions", even vonnegut rated his own book breakfast of ..... with an "F", even he said it sucked and that he wrote it to receive the pay day.
the book is one of the worst books ever written, right next to "slapstick"

Yes, it really isn't that good, but that's why I wrote "a MUST read".

I think there are books that really aren't that good, but they have something to give the reader. If nothing more then an idea of what everybody else is talking about.

I didn't think Catcher In The Rye was that good either, but it is also a book everybody should read.

Slaughter-House Five is really good, and for extra fun read Welcome To The Monkey House, although theme is inconsistent there because it's a book of short stories. Read. Think. Enjoy.

It's funny then that I like BoC so much and detest Cat's Cradle.
