When I was purchasing my Mel Brooks Collection, I came upon a book The Enclyclopedia of Heavy Metal...I had to buy it. It was only 19.99. Great Buy!
The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde
Just looked really quite bizarre and intriguing. The best way to describe it is a private detective story crossed with a nursery rhyme.

That Dante Club was alright, made me interested to get his new one about Poe at least

I preordered Against The Day, will be getting that on my next Amazon order.
I'm in a rare position of kind of needing to go book shopping. I've got a few books on my to-read list here, but none tickle me enough to start, so I'm re-reading Magic Christian and exploring a few short story books I never got all the way through.
Any suggestions for a first J.G. Ballard book?
Might also pick up Demon Theory, had it from the library but had to return it before I got to it.

Crash was the first that I had read, it is one of his most talked about so it was what I gravitated to. Empire of the Sun is probably my favorite but wouldn't be the first "Ballard" to take off the shelf, it is autobiographical for one but most importantly it doesn't prepare you for some of the content that he often pursues in much of his books, such as dystopia. This is why I would recommend Crash as the first book to read of his, highly controversial but also vintage Ballard.
it's only after you have lost everything that your free to do anything

I personally hated Concrete Island, that's all I got.

Genki: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese. I've decided that I'm done with the classics for a little while, moving to something a little more modern.
I have posted this several times....has anyone read I, Lucifer???
Is it worth the read?
never heard of it
I finished Son of a Witch last night, and it was very good. It was good in a Lord of the Rings epic way, not like chuck. it ended without ever resolving the major and central conflict, but oh well. maybe gregory maguire will write another one in ten more years.

Written by Glen Duncan...I never heard of him either. It was given to me in a box of books by a friend. I never heard of him or the book and I thought someone could tell me to read it or not waste my time...guess I will find out on my own.
Thanks though for responding nat

i'd say give it at least a good 50 pages
The Worthy. by Will Clarke. It was just fanTAStic. A must read. Anyone familiar?
Sorry - guess I should give a symopsis. Conrad, a frat boy, is killed by one of his "brothers" in the frat house. His soul lingers to seek revenge.
At times very funny, at other times poignant...a look at death from "the other side", a look at life from someone hugely insightful. I loved it.
I meant SYNopsis. LOL, guess I need an editor!!
Movie rights apparently have been arranged. I thought, when I read it, it would be perfect for a film. I can see Zach Braff as the main character, Conrad. The villain, Ryan - perhaps Ryan Phillipe...no relation to the name, just needs a "pretty boy". Maggie could be Kate Bosworth. Perfect. And Sarah Jane? Oh - definitely Linsay Lohan. Hate her, but she'd be perfect. And Tucker? Hmmm...any ideas?
Oh, and I would love Miss Etta to NOT be Whoopi Goldberg, but I can't see how the studio could resist. Why not Hally Berry in old person makeup?
Memoirs Of My Nervous Illness - Daniel Paul Schreber
Read the first fifty or so pages at work today. Very interesting look at this Daniel's mind.
I just bought a big ole huge North American Road Atlas. Maps kick ass.
All day yesterday, I looked up any place anyone mentioned on tv.
"Ahaa! They are just west of Madison!"
i'd say give it at least a good 50 pages
I gave over 50 and regreted every moment of it...don't read it.
Recently, up until even more so recently, I'd been buying books every single monday. I'm no three or four novels behind. I bought "Haunted" a few weeks ago (my first Chuck novel), and I've actually been reading and re-reading that quite a bit. Also, I've been reading some instructional texts for this little class I've been taking to polish my prose. And the other day, I bought a pack of Camels, and the nice-girl at the con. store gave me a matchbook....for free.
The Long Hard Road out of Hell... the Marilyn Manson autobiography... really freaking interesting, I'd recommend it... but after reading all of Chuck's books, I have no idea what to read next...
What do you like?
Anxiously waiting for Lydia Millet's Oh Pure and Radiant Heart to come in the mail from Amazon.

Ok well, I just happened to find myself in a bookstore yesterday and I bought three books..
1.) Stranger than Fiction by: CP
2.) Cat's Cradle by: Kurt Vonnegut
((Both I have been meaning to read for awhile))
then I purchased

I had really liked Running with Scissors so I thought I would give this book a try. They all seemed promising.

You should read Filth by Welsh...it is great!

"Prisoner of X" by Allen MacDonell. About his twenty year career working for Hustler magazine. It has been recommended by Chucky P, and being the tool that I am, I went out and bought it and am currently reading it.
