what books did you just buy?
I took this survey thing and they gave me a $5 gift certificate for Amazon so i ordered a used copy of Libra by Don DeLillo for $4. If anyone wants $1 off at Amazon, let me know.
I received Cloud Atlas (used copy, Amazon) only 5 days after it was sent! I was very pleasantly surprised, and it was in good condition.
5 days to Europe is pretty good.
Now you have no excuse not to read it by the time the movie opens, Imke.
I started reading it already, but I'm still pretty sure I won't finish it before I get to see the movie.
city of thieves by david benioff
jesus`son by denis johnson
the quiet american by graham greene
.I'm beginning to believe that anything I do to extend my life is just going to be outweighed by the agony of living it.

11 Days later and i still haven't received my used book.
Well to be fair, if it's shipping from the East Coast at all it might not be the seller's fault.

11 Days later and i still haven't received my used book.
I also received Shogun last week already. Neener neener.
Sometimes they arrive next day with me and twice I've had to wait over a month! I love Amazon Marketplace though, got a lot of the books I needed for uni for 1p plus the shipping, less than I spend on the magazines I buy. It's worth waiting extra time sometimes.
I don't want to talk about the books I bought for myself because I can't even read any of them until I've gotten through this huge reading list, probably not until next February. And to be honest I am HATING most of the reading, it's tat! Like Interview With the Vampire, I hate it! Bored.
I never finished that one. I just give up if i don't like a book. Is it for school or something?
I just bought The Killing Joke, The Way of the Pilgrim, TV snorted my brain, and Ash Cinema.
I really liked this one.
Awesome haul at the used book store:
Three Bret Easton Ellis books (it's usually hard to find one... other than American Psycho)
The Rules of Attraction
The Informers (I really wanted to read this one since the movie)
Glamorama
Shogun
In the Heart of Darkness (been wanting to read this since I saw Apocalypse Now)
I only struck out on two items
Now, I just have to find the time to read them--research for work has been seriously crowding my reading time.
house of leaves - mark z. danielewski

I really liked this one.
yeah. I like it too. probably gonna check out some other stuff from johnson.

Johnson is one of my favorite authors. But everything he writes is totally different than the last thing. He really doesn't have anything with the same tone as Jesus' Son.
ah, thats good to know. recommendation?

I really like Nobody Move. But I've enjoyed everything I've read by him. I have his new one sitting on my shelf, I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I had another Amazon gift code so i ordered Get Off Your But by Sean Stephenson. It'll be like a race, see which one gets here first.
Yeah it's for university. I never finish books I'm not enjoying, there's not enough time for that kind of shit.
I have the hardest time not finishing a book. And it sucks though because that means if I'm hating a book, it will take me twice as long to finish and I could have read two books in that time instead... (which is generally what twice as long means - shut up I just woke up).

I don't know why I love this post so much.
Also I bought two more books the other night and there is a fire sale at the local bookstore (books are 25-50 cents each) so I'm in a world of trouble.
Anyway I bought

and this book that I'm really excited to read

I used to try and finish everything but I wasn't getting to read as much as I wanted to because of the same problem as you just said. Find it easy to put something down if I hate it now, just pick up something else straight away

Me too !

I can't wait for it to get here already. I almost bought it at B&N but it was too expensive. It just sounds like a good combination of nerdy chemistry, historical figures, and good ol' stories.
Both Libra and Sean Stephenson's book arrived on the same day. I'm happy because now i can finally read Libra. Both books are in really good condition too and i only paid like $10 total for both.
Latest book I bought last week was Damned
.. since I haven't found Fight Club in any of my city's book shops. The coolest moment was when I entered one book shop and asked for the book.. then the salesman looked at me for 10 seconds and said: "...That book was requested about half an hour ago.." ...Geez, Tyler's always one step ahead of me :'D
"We no longer live in a world of reality, she said, we live in a world of symbols."
Just... don't do the lye thing, okay?
This is why we can't have nice things.
Imke! I ordered Shantaram! I'm hoping to get the chance to read it sooner rather than later, I'm excited
Yay! I'm excited about you going to read it!
Blindness by Jose Saramago, The Book of Tea by Okakura Kakuzo and a Romanian novel, Teofil and the Wooden Dog.
I found Blindness to be very depressing. I feel gloomy just thinking about it!
Well, I like Mr Saramago, and if I wait to read his books in Portuguese it'll take me years. That's what I'm saving The Gospel According to Jesus Christ for, though.
The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima. I love 20th century Japanese writers and I love a good love story, so I'm sure I'll like this one.
le corps noir by Dominique Manotti
the phantom of alexander wolf by Gaito Gasdanov
the master and margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
solar by Ian McEwan

I just bought a few volumes of Powers by Bendis....yes more comics.
Yay! More *ahem* graphic novels! They are lengthy novels, right?
Those look good conquer.
Irina, mentioning The Book of Tea reminds me of the 'Dragostea din Tea' song.
Punctuation quotes and references are all jacked up. Will really fix it one day.
Oh my God don't tell me you knew that horrible song! Literally, it means "The love in the linden tree", because we have a fairy tale called "Prince Charming of the linden tree", I guess.
It's the only Romanian song I know the words to. If we ever meet, we are going to drown in margaritas, and sing this at the top of our lungs at Karaoke.
But I don't know the words! And you haven't got Inna or Antonia on your radio stations? I'm impressed, apparently they're all over Europe with their crappy pop songs. Both are really hot, though, and Inna is about my height.

Inna

Antonia
I don't know them either. o_____O
You're not missing anything, Imke. Their music sucks.
The second ones shirt sucks.
And shoes.
The shorts are very 1994.
According to Lib the 90's are classics now though, so...
I don't think Romania has gotten the new millennium yet.
And people didn't button their shorts in the 90's? Lazy bums.
Those look good conquer.

the powers yes...my other ones were comics though eh...i buy so much i forget.

I own shorts like that. They're not quite as short as those ones, but I wear the hell out of them in summer.
But then again, I love 90s fashion.
Except this:

I turned my first pair of jeans into shorts a few years ago. They're the pair I got for my 13th birthday.
Yes, they still fit.

The narrator was more like the guy's soul or conscience, the narrator didn't understand anything and was trying to make sense of the world but couldn't. It was balls anyway.
