what books did you just buy?
I can send you the ebook if you like.

Si vis pacem, para bellum
That's just an ugly Puma.
The Murakami? YES PLEASE!
Aww yeah, THAT other name...
You rock my world.

Nah, these:

Si vis pacem, para bellum
The first time I saw those was in high school. A really fat, punk kid wore some white or off white ones that became progressively dirtier as time went on... he never wore anything else though! By the end of the year, they looked like filthy bandages wrapped around his feet.
I think of him whenever I see them.
Imitation winos at ten times the price! Hahaha!
This is why we can't have nice things.
They wear black or white plimsoles with platform bottoms....seemingly these are called Creepers?

Nah, these:

I really hate those Toms shoes.
These are creepers.
They are worn by aging punks and embarrassing rockabilly kids.
This is why we can't have nice things.
To me they will always be Harry Hill shoes.
hey this is the first post in the thread and I just bought this book! Brilliant.

Yep, the hipsters wear them too now.
I just got Broken Piano for President. I've bought all these books and I have no time to read them...yet.
You're really gonna like that book.
I know I can taste it but I don't have time to read it right now
I still haven't finished those two other books I've started at the beginning of the year.

I am very, very tempted to get one of these.
I just ordered my book club's next read, Time's Arrow by Martin Amis.
I never got into Money, so I hope this one's better. Martin Amis has always struck me as a smug prick.
He is a smug prick. He's definitely not my cup of tea.
Oh no! Did you end up really hating it then?
Was it the 'clever' narrative style?
I just ordered Shogun and Cloud Atlas, I'm excited!
Read Cloud Atlas first. It's wonderful and amazing and I can't wait for the film.
Yeah, seeing the trailer for the movie made me order the book. I'm not sure if I'll manage to finish reading it before it comes in theaters here (the end of December), but hopefully!
That just put a smile upon my face. We get it at the end of November. I'm gonna go the very same day, because Fridays I don't have classes and the multiplex closest to home is never crowded
I just checked when it's in theaters in The Netherlands, and there it's the end of November as well! Get it together, Norway! Well, I might just have to go see it in The Netherlands then.
Wait, is it a horrible idea to go see the movie when you're in the middle of reading the book? If so, I might just wait with reading it, because I don't think I can not go see the movie.
I don't think it's a bad idea, you get spoilers anyway. If you see the film first, you know what the book is about, and the other way around. I think I did that once, actually. And to my shame, I only read We Need To Talk About Kevin after seeing the movie. Trust me, you'll finish it. It's so captivating it only took me about a week to finish.
My morning routine is to check whether The Perks of Being a Wallflower is FINALLY on torrent sites. Still isn't.
I'm not doubting that I'll want to finish it, I just don't have a lot of time to read. I'm taking quite a long time finishing books these days.
It's a longer book. We did a book club discussion of it a long time ago. I remember thinking it was really clever the way it was pieced together and I enjoyed pretty much everything about it.
I tend to think the books are better than the movies, so when I saw the trailer I couldn't stop thinking about how awesome the book must be.
I still haven't seen the trailer... Maybe I should go look it up.
Judging by the trailer, I have super high expectations for the movie. It looks like it'll be a great adaptation.
Just watched it. Man, is it going to be a 3 hour movie?
That's a good idea. The book is long and intricate, no point in screwing it up with a 2-hour movie.
Yeah, there are a lot of plot points that have to be there. It's going to have to be a long movie if it's going to do the story justice.
2:45 I think.
Cloud Atlas is one of the few books I bought after reading an electronic version or the translation. And that means a lot, considering I don't buy books too often.
My friend just bought me Great Expectations and Oliver Twist for Christmas but couldn't wait until then to give them to me so yeah.
Was it the 'clever' narrative style?
I didn't hate it really, it just annoyed me. There were moments where I was like, "Oh that's interesting!" but mostly the style wore very thin for me. It was hard for me not to imagine things in reverse before he got to them and so their effect was kind of diminished. Just didn't seem so brilliant to me.
I am not enjoying it.
Want to give up!
Twist is my next Dickens. I liked Expectations better than I did Copperfield, which is like Dickens blasphemy but whatevs.
This is why we can't have nice things.
100 Years Of Vicissitude by Andrez Bergen
I'm looking forward to starting it.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Want to give up!
Did you get through it? Martin Amis is such a nob. I call him Smartin' Anus. You can use that at your book club xxxx
...I gave up half way through. Felt quite ashamed seeing at the book wasn't exactly long and it's technically my book club, but I just found it slow and the narrator talking about himself in the 3rd person really annoying.
Ha, it took me about ten seconds to get that, but yes

What are hipster shoes?
I've been meaning to read this book for eight years now.
