Watching Super Why! on PBS Kids--the show reminds me of this. The characters talk to the children at home and pause for them to answer. Kinda sad and creepy.
Fahrenheit's a great book though--hooked me on Bradbury.
Just bought Kris Saknussemm's Sinister Miniatures to participate in the book club discussion and support Lazy Fascist Press since it's also my publisher. Also got Stephen Dixon's Insterstate, Steve Aylett's Noveahead, and Nick Mamatas' Starve Better.
I'll be opening the discussion thread later today for Sinister Miniatures. I didn't get a chance this weekend to do it.
After complaining about Amazon, I'm compelled to report that they arrived within a week.
High Rise by JG Ballad (My September book club read)
I got The Corpse Walker by Liao Yiwu, while I was at the Eslite Bookstore in Taipei, Taiwan.

Yesterday I bought Blindness by José Saramago. It was on sale, cost just 5 euros.
Just bough really cheap second hand copies of Homeboy by Seth Morgan and The Zoo Where You're Fed to God by Michael Ventura from Abe Books.
The Liar by Stephen Fry. For the second time. I thought I lost it months ago but actually left it in the backseat of a friend's car... the day after buying it. He finally found it and brought it back last week... in four pieces. The heat (hottest summer in the history of history here in Texas) melted the spine glue.
I'm keeping this one out of the elements.
I just bought Damned because, for some reason, you can get paperback copies at the bookstores here in little, old New Zealandonia already even though you can't get them at Amazon or anywhere, I don't think.
Are they bootleg copies or something? I never heard of paperback copies coming out at the same time as hardbacks.
Is it the ARC Galley proof?

It appears to be the real thing. The Vintage UK version. Purchased at a big, franchise book store. I can't explain it.
Henry Miller's Black Spring and Freud's Writings on Art and Literature.
I had never even heard of this one before. Have you started it yet? How is it compared to his others?
Haven't started it yet. Probably over the weekend.

The Screwtape Letters and Big Sur.
"For most of this century, scientists have worshiped the hardware of the brain and the software of the mind; the messy powers of the heart were left to the poets."
Among many other things, I bought a copy of Sophie's World and four versions of Candide.
Four. Of the same book. Different covers. I wanted to buy six but my brother was there and he talked me out of two. We put them all on the floor and he made me explain why I NEEDED to have each one.
The first was a hard cover with neat illustrations. Had to have it.
The second was another hard cover but it was simpler, more elegant. Plus, it was $2. Had to have it.
The third had comic book style reenactments all over the cover and flaps. It was beautiful and I had to have it.
The fourth was a thrift store edition with a psychedelic cover. Wasn't all that great but it was 48 cents. What was I going to do, not buy it? No. HAD TO HAVE IT.
I'm sure someone could've talked me out of some of these too but my brother gave up after only 15 minutes. I can't really handle Half Priced Books. I reach my limit in clothing stores fairly quickly and I like feeling like a baller. Buying shit in every color.
Big Sur and the Oranges of Heironymous Bosch by Henry Miller or is this just some other book just titled Big Sur? Because the Henry Miller one is tits!
Big Sur and the Oranges of Heironymous Bosch by Henry Miller or is this just some other book just titled Big Sur? Because the Henry Miller one is tits!
It's Kerouac's Big Sur, it's one of the few books I haven't read by him. Liking it so far!
"For most of this century, scientists have worshiped the hardware of the brain and the software of the mind; the messy powers of the heart were left to the poets."
The Marriage Plot Jeffrey Euginedes.
"I'm glad I live in the GPS era. In a different century, I would've set off to visit the other side of the village and wandered off into the mountains and been eaten by a carnivorous plant. Or discovered the Americas."

Ooo, I bought that a few weeks ago. Also I just got Miss Lonelyhearts and The Day of The Locust by Nathanael West.

"Am I cruel? Probably. Is she an idiot? Yes." -jane s.
Last night I used a Barnes and Noble giftcard and ordered:
By the Time We Leave Here, We'll Be Friends by J. David Osborne
The Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson
Please Do Not Shoot Me In The Face by Bradley Sands
I always forget about this damn thread when I buy books.
I don't know By the Time We Leave Here, We'll Be Friends by J. David Osborne, Petez, but good call on t'other two.
This is why we can't have nice things.
A lot of authors I respect have been saying good things about By the Time We Leave Here. So, I bought an electronic version for my nook. I think it was $5.
You were one of the people (along with Bradley Sands) that recommended The Illuminatus! Trilogy. I've been meaning to buy it for a while now. Reading The Invisibles resparked my interest in it.
And Bradley's writing is just great. You know that since you read Rico Slade. I could have sworn he said that the story he had in Warmed and Bound was an excerpt from Don't Shoot Me (I could be wrong though).
Actually Bradley corrected me. The story from Warmed and Bound is an excerpt of a book coming out in 2012 called - TV Snorted my Brain
So keep your eyes open for that one as well!
Thanks, Pete!
This is why we can't have nice things.
My school textbooks that I haven't bought yet.
And:
By Steve Aylett
- The Crime Studio
- Atom
- Novahead
Mostly because I own Slaughtermatic and I didn't know that it was the 2nd book in the Beerlight books series. And then I thought - I might as well buy them all.
Also bought by Bradley Sands:
- My Heart Said No, But The Camera Crew Said Yes!
- Sorry I Ruined Your Orgy
Now I think I own all of Bradley's books that are available.
The complete Arsène Lupin, by Maurice Leblanc :

- The Red Tree by Caitlín Kiernan (also ordered her upcoming book The Drowning Girl)
- Illyria by Elizabeth Hand
- The Bayou Trilogy by Daniel Woodrell (I read the first book in it, but didn't like it as much as Winter's Bone, not by far)
- Touchy Subjects by Emma Donoghue (I love her book Room)

I'm just gonna post the pic of the books I bought today again in this thread
