what books did you just buy?
Today I picked up Me Talk Pretty One Day, by my main man Sedaris.
"There’s no use in denying it: this has been a bad week. I’ve started drinking my own urine." -Patrick Bateman
I found a used copy of that at a thrift store yesterday for $1.50! Also scored a bunch of other book's I've already read: 'The Road', 'Life of Pi', and 'the curious incident of the dog in the night-time'. I like extra copies so I can pass them on.
I got a new (used) one for me, too: 'Emperor of the Air: Stories" by Ethan Canin.
To Be Read:
-'Solar' by Ian McEwan
-'Beatrice and Virgil' by Yann Martel
-'Little Bee'by Chris Cleave
-'101 Theory Drive: A Neuroscientists's Quest for Memory' by Terry McDermott
-'Columbine' by Dave Cullen
i saw that 'Me Talk Purdy One Day' th eother day. it looked kind of interesting. but i was simply indifferent.
All the reviews online were raves. The second person POV and the premise intrigued me. Went down to the bookstore. Read one sentence. Bought it.

you want some Second-person action, Tyler? check out my recent story in workshop, my man. it's all second person POV.
that books sound good. Bukowski-esque. let us know how it goes.
Same. And I'm bad at returning stuff.
And library books have bits of food and blood and (possibly pubic) hair in them. It's like sleeping in a cheap hotel where they haven't changed the bed sheets in a few months.

I certainly will, bro. Thanks for steering me that direction.
nice. i'll be commenting on your recent story shortly aswell.
That is the american Kiss me Judas cover? Because I have the same one, anyone else have any other cover? I like covers.
And Steve... why is Super Mario running after your swedish words?
I just bought
White Jazz
Penny Dreadful
Post Office
Beat The Reaper.
back a few weeks up and I got Derma by Clevenger, but I didn't like it at all, I loved the Handbook... it might have been bad timing.

The Cold Six Thousand by James Ellroy
Blood's a Rover by James Ellroy
And for Matt because he likes matching covers...

That's what I'm reading these days (not the same covers though).

the kiss me judas cover I have is yellowish orange and it's a hotel room bedside lamp and a bed.
In the mail from Amazon.com

And this one was $4.oo in the discount bin of a local bookstore.

I'm a compulsive book hoarder. It's getting to be a problem. I'm not joking.

welcome to the club.
there's a thread somewhere about showing bookcases and whatnot. some people have it worse than others, so don't worry.
I think I stated above - but really I buy books like they're not going to be available tomorrow. Like I'm worried that the book I really want is about to go out of print forever.
I think I'm scared because it's happened to me...
i'm the same. but i'm like that with everything in my life.
Tyler: check out the "SHOW ME YOUR BOOKIE WOOKS" thread. post your gigantic bookshelf in there.

Austin: You're such a cult-groupie!
I kinda feel like this is an honor. Unless it results in a massive Cult gangbang in which I'm the sock puppet.
EDIT: But really, between the "big time" names the Cult has turned me on to (Clevenger, Drake, etc.) and all the goddamn talent that is about to boil over--I can't read these things fast enough!

hahaha.
so true, so true.
I went to a used bookstore in Baton Rouge today. It was pretty great. I could have stayed in there for hours. I bought a really neat book called Flight Through the Ages. Its a big illustrated volume, really interesting. I bought it for my new friend who is an airplane mechanic. I like him.

Another pointless post: the Barnes & Noble in Bountiful, UT (just north of SLC and about 45 minuted south of me) has the largest inventory of Lit Mags I've seen in one place. Names I knew...names that were unknown. It was awesome.

is this dress down, has the same no-tits-involved vibe?
I don't know, things in here seem pretty pointless.

'Salem's Lot was really good. Hope you like it. If you've read Dracula, you'll appreciate it more than if you haven't. Either way, fun read.
I just bought: Pygmy- C.P.
Pet Sematary- King
FUBU and KFC have anounced their move to combine forces and fullyn focus on targeting more 'ethnic' audiences. In other news, McDonalds, Starbucks and Wal-Mart have combined to become The United Corporate of America. Moving on...
Based on several recommendations from peoples here, I searched for some Baer books at my used bookstore and had no luck. I did, however, manage to find 3 Bret Easton Ellis books for $3 each- American Psycho, Glamorama, and The Informers. I also bought Into the Wild since I keep telling myself to read it and always forget about it when I get to the bookstore. I picked Choose Costa Rica for Retirement out of the free bin on the way out.

there's a free bin?
Fucking Borders and those goddamn coupons. My girlfriend has banned me from buying another book for the rest of the month.

Just bought OBEDIENCE by Will Lavender. It has a peculiar feel to it. Sort of reminds me of the combination of suspense and humor felt in i, Lucifer. Great read so far.
"All the effort in the world won't matter if you're not inspired." - C.P.
Heck yes! There usually isn't much of anything in there, but I always check to be certain.

I just sold some books to the bookstore and grabbed The Shining, The Road, and The Virgin Suicides.
"There’s no use in denying it: this has been a bad week. I’ve started drinking my own urine." -Patrick Bateman
I recently bought Lolita and Catch-22. Halfway through Lolita, and it's pretty decent.
haven't read The Shining, but The Road is incredible, and Virgin Suicides was much the same. both books speak a beautiful language.
Blew all my money on books. No Money for bills. Building a house using my books as bricks and my tears as mortar.

Demian is a great book, and so is Siddharta, both by Hesse. I actually liked those two more than "Der Steppenwolf" which probably is his most famous work.
Personally I just bought and started to read Beat the Reaper. I've laughed for myself a bunch of times already! awesome book.
"Someone must have slandered Josef K., for one morning, without having done anything truly wrong, he was arrested."
"Jemand musste Josef K. verleumdet haben, denn ohne dass er etwas Böses getan hätte, wurde er eines Morgens verhaftet"
Get this book, guys.

Ritt I've picked that up countless times, but I've never heard good or bad about it....
No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy - really looking forward to this. haven't seen the movie. it sounds freakin' awesome. guns, heroin, dead bodies, McCarthy's Prose. sweeeet!
The Ghost Writer by Philip Roth - also, looking forward to this one. it's my first Roth, and was recommeeded as a starting point by Phil. i like the sound of Zuckerman.
I'd temper my expectations if I were you.
Aww, really?
Oh - Friday I bought The Delivery Man by Joe McGinniss
My best friend just read this and he loved it. But I disagree with many of his opinions on literature.

I hated it. Felt like amateur hour--such sloppy prose! But if you appreciate a novel more for its characters and plot, you might like it.
(To me, it seemed like something Elmore Leonard would have written...when he was 12.)
I wasn't impressed with No Country for Old Men either. Nor did I like the film.
