Want To Be Well-Read (Or Just Look Like It?)
Got seven bucks? Get a stack of random books chosen solely for their spine's color and attractiveness. This is for set-dressing and whatnot, but it intrigues me. I'm gonna buy a couple feet of books and make myself read them all.
I'll report back here. Eventually.
Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
awww, i did that a number of years ago. decided to get out of my personal realm of favorites and whatnot, i found myself at the hastings in jacksonville, ar. and picked most of the red-lined clearance books from the shelves and meticulously read them. honestly, that was how i found harry crews and josephine tey and magnus mills. this was right before i started writing so i'd just joined here looking for recommendations. because most of the hastings clearance items shouldve remained on the shelves.
it was cool, though. you never know who youre gonna discover, and if youre lucky, you'll discover also that the new author has a dozen or more books out. that's not how it happened with john fante, though, because i was so hopeful after reading ask the dust. but sometimes you can get really lucky. imagine finding chuck by chance one day and learning that he has a full library out. something along those lines. i fully support your intended goal, brother

i would get in on this too, if only they included fruit-by-the-foot, or some other conveniently metered snacking option.
Anytime I can get something by linear measure, I'm in.
Also, anything sold by the scruple.

You could just get a couple cans of spray paint and do this yourself with the books you already own.
But I've read those.
The thing is I want a boatload of books I haven't read; ones I would never think to buy.

I stop by Goodwill periodically and raid their books. For a poor student like myself $1 books are awesome. Of course the selection is always random, but I've picked up some real gems.

Okay, I will still do this, but it's gonna take longer to read....
