The Raw Shark Texts 2
Well, as Steven put it to me in a message over myspace, a sort of Anti-Raw Shark. Don't expect this next book for a few years yet though, and of course everything might change. Who knows when WW3 is going to kick up, or some giant asteroid is going to destroy our little planet, or even solarsystem. Hell, we don't know how large some of those bodies can be. I'm sure they can be absoloutely massive. Anyway, these are the first clues he's given about his next book, I'd like to think they were given to me because I'm beautiful and also a genius, and, well, no doubt there are a thousand ways we could interpret them. But tell me what you guys think.

I'm guessing a forest is going to have lots of words written on the bark, and a superhero made of trees must rescue a girl from some sort of demon who lives in the ideas these words represent. Or maybe the superhero is a werewolf who doesn't realise he's a werewolf, he blacks out and runs riot through a forest tearing apart trees with his claws and inscribing some creepy runes into the bark which he then spends his days trying to decipher. Who knows. But if you haven't read this book yet, I'd sure go ahead and read it. think of it less like The Da Vinci Code crossed with The Matrix, and more like the first season of Lost crossed with House of Leaves.
The Superhero might be an nod to Nietzsche. I mean, Raw Shark is full of so many quotes to books and films, Fight Club among them if any of you petty fools still need convincing. The superhero might be a nod to the Ubermensch, or however it's written. I wonder if anyone knows what that passage is talking about. Maybe these clues aren't just pictures, but specific pictures of specific things. Where that forest is, what it's famous for.
Maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves though.
awesome stuff!!
I should point out, the title of this thread is not the name of Steven's next novel. I don't know whether or not it's going to be related to The Raw Shark Texts or not, it was simply the only idea I could have for a thread name other than the bland, "Steven Hall's next novel"

Ok, I think that that just convinced me. seriously. I'm gonna try to buy it tomorrow.
I can not wait. Raw Shark Texts was amazing...I can't believe there are people on this forum who have not yet read it. At this point, it really shouldn't require any more convincing.

I agree. I think everyone would dig this book, and I'm only 60 pages into it! MAN!!!

Fascinating stuff, Corellion. Thanks.
Running with the forest idea is interesting. I'm guessing that the second image is a medieval manuscript though it looks similar to the Babylonian Talmud. The superhero thing is what really throws it.
