The Official Cult Book Club - Revamp, Update, Suggestions?
So the Book Club seems like it started back up for a minute again. And it looked promising. But it never really got going.
So I put it on hold for a little bit.
But I really want to get it going.
What can I do to make more people excited about the Book Club?
Any suggestions?
How can I make sure more people are participating?
A Book a month? Every other month? Should I just choose the books? Vote for them like we do?
What do you guys think?
Promise free oreos and coffee.

I'm number 2!!
Just a thought, I had been getting the email notifications when there was a vote, but somewhere in the last few months they stopped coming. It would be a nice idea to email a reminder right before the discussion starts as well. I don't come to the cult every day, or even every week, so the reminders would be nice.
They stopped because I stopped the Book Club for a few months.
The last book we picked had exactly two comments. Mine and the discussion leader. This was kinda ridiculous considering everybody voted for it.
This is why I put the Book Club on hold. I wanted to hopefully kick it off in the New Year with a good start...
I don't really have any suggestions. :[ I've participated in a few of them, but I didn't in the last two either because a. I didn't have the time/money to go buy the book at the time or b. I wasn't even remotely interested in the book.
I DO love the book club, though, and try to participate when I can.
Another idea, sometimes publishers (especially small ones) will offer discounts to people who buy a book for a book club reading. Maybe reach out to the publishers to see about a Cult Special Rate. This might get more people reading the book.
Or, get in the loop about forthcoming books, and see if publishers would be willing to send out a stack of ARC copies specifically for the book club. I would imagine that could be some good press for a new title. People might be more willing to discuss if they knew they were some of the first to talk about it. Consider the traffic a "pre-discussion" would get for a book, too.
Somebody should definitely create a cult group on goodreads.
I would but I tend to spend weeks at a time away from my computer.

Maybe, we could tap into other, already established book networks. Maybe Goodreads, for example, which just got a $2million venture capital investment, meaning they are likely going to be growing even bigger. Maybe put a Cult profile up there, then encourage discussion on that site, while linking back to The Cult as well. From my experience, the people at Goodreads are damn passionate about books. A Cult profile could be worth looking into.
