The best books you read in 2010
2010 was like the year of The Contortionist's Handbook Renaissance!
The Death of Ivan Ilych - LT
Did you get the one that has this and a bunch of his other short stories? That was a great one!
Yeah, it was definitely a good year for Clevenger here.
Shella by Andrew Vachss
Nobody Move by Denis Johnson
What Came Between us by local writer, Patrick Cullen
That's a few more that just came to mind. Plenty of great reading last year.
I so glad you liked Shella that much. Shit - I recommended Nobody Move to you too. I'm glad I could recommend stuff to you that you loved so much.
Yeah, you know what I like. And yeah, Shella was definitely a favourite. That book got me out of my reading slump and back into reading a book every couple of days. So I have a soft spot for it now.
There's so many more though. I feel like I only read great stuff last year.
best book i read in 2010, is also my call for best book of 2010....

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”
-James Baldwin
The Beach - Garland
TCH & Dermaphoria - Clevenger
Beat the Reaper - Dr. Kickass
Apathy and Other Small Victories - Neilan
Candy - Davies
Delivery Man - McGinniss jr
Glad to see Candy coming up for a few people. It's one of my all-time favourites.

I love Apathy and Other Small Victories! I recommend it all the time. But I still don't know that many people that have read it.
Also - I totally approve of your whole list. Good job. ha

It's a shame, Apathy is hilarious, I absolutely loved that book. Yep great reads indeed, most of them courtesy of this site. I'm into House of Leaves now (shutter)

Oye, I'm so bad at keeping up with this. I need to get e-mail notifications or something.
But no! The book I got was a double with Tell Me A Riddle by Tillie Olsen. Still haven't read that half though...
As beautiful and tragic as a flower on a grave.
The Financial Lives of the Poets - Jess Walter
