Some of your favourite plays...
So, what are they? Because, um, I really like reading and watching plays.
Mine:
The Zoo Story
Our Town

All My Sons
snow, glad you're still around. some of my favorite plays are:
Death of a Salesman
Six Degrees of Separation
On Golden Pond
Love Letters and anything else from A J Gurney, like The Cocktail Party
ditto Our Town
Much Ado About Nothing - Hey nonny nonny
Richard III - Now is the winter of our discontent
Angus - you're talking about Into the Woods, a quasi-musical. I have it on videotape.
Death of a Salesman is my favourite but I haven't read many plays. Or seen any. Do pantomimes count?
Favourite plays either seen/read/filmed/performed - I am leaving out those that incorporate a lot of other media such as ballet which would make them into another genre, or other play-like formats such as opera and musicals, and I know I am forgetting many. But these are the first ones that come to mind...
The Death of Marat as written by the Marguis de Sade and performed by the Inmates of the Asylum at Charenton
Rozencrantz and Gildenstern are Dead
Hamlet - the Bard
Macbeth - the Bard
Waiting for Godot
Tartuffe
Medea
The Orestia -the cycle
The Oedipus - cycle
I just know there are tons more but my brain is on ice at the mo...blah

when i was 16, i called tony kushner a "god-king" to his face. gush, much?
i love moliere. i saw "the miser" in the 6th grade with my dad, and it was so bawdy that at first, i was very, very embarrassed... but you can't suppress that kind of laughter for too long, and we loosened up fast. it was at trinity rep in providence - still my favorite theater, and one of the best theatrical memories of my life. i played elmire in high school against my gay ex-boyfriend as tartuffe, and i remember the stuff was so funny we would break down, laughing in a heap on the floor, b/c it was so funny.

all it takes is $60 and a dream.
I really liked Popcorn by Ben Elton (that is his name, right?). Pretty dark humour.
Jesus Christ Superstar. Always loved the movie, then had the pleasure of seeing the Broadway reunion run a few years ago in NYC. Great story, great acting and singing, great lyrics.

I haven't seen many plays. But one I remember and liked a lot was a parody of classic fairy tales like cinderella, repunsal, jack and the been stalk, ect. The first half was very funny and light hearted but the second half became much more serious and a lot darker. Unfortunately I can't remember the name. Does anybody know which one I'm talking about.
You will never be famous.
