SHOW ME YOUR BOOKIE WOOKS!
probably done before, but not by me, so come on culties; get 'em out and get 'em aaangry!
this is my bookshelf. it also holds DVD's and some of my special vinyl that i can't risk getting hurt. it's generally in alphabetical order, and then in chronological order when multiple titles by the same author occur, but as you can see, we're running out of room, fast. this is most of our collection. we both have stacks on our bedside tables and there are some old books packed away in cupboards, too. enjoy!

I totally was going to make a Twilight comment...
douche
beautiful. i wish i had a better camera to take a picture with so you could see some of the titles clearer.
twilight. whatever. i read them on night shift at work, a book a night pretty much. what is there to say? they're written or teenagers not literary geeks and they made the chick millions probably, so, good on her. they stories aren't that bad. it's the constant obsessive school-girl narrative voice that pissed me off the most.
I've never been ashamed of the fact that I enjoyed the series. I have never claimed the story or writing to have much merit, but I enjoyed it, damn it.
But yeah, I figured I'd head off the comments by making my own
Hopefully people will notice something more interesting than Twilight on my shelves!

I resized the images so they won't take up the entire screen, but maybe i'll link the originals so people can look more closely if they really want to.

You like Big Fish! Me too! It's one of only 3 movies that make me cry.
douche
Its one of only two movies where I pressed play again immediately after finishing it the first time.

Most of my books are in shoeboxes because my bookcase only fits about 60 books.

Bitches love Twilight.
Well, compared to those above, my collection sucks ass,

Too, it distresses me that i'll probably have to part ways with 95% of my books soon. Or find somewhere to store them or something. Selling them all or giving them away might break my heart. I don't trust the world with books.
See! No care given to those books!
It hurts me.
Whatever respect you had for me has now decreased, I would assume.
And I agree with your point about not trusting the world with books. I don't know what I'd do if I had to part with mine. There are only a few friends I would trust to treat them well.
Sam, is that a little Gyroscope mannequin?
and; i can also understand your anxiety aout giving out your books. 've never been one to treat books badly. sometimes i want to get all in them and underline and take notes, but i rarely can. i can't stand to see it look like somone hasn't cared about it.
i'll fix all of these, eventually:
I think I would die, more than a little, inside if I had to part ways with most of my books.
Whatever respect you had for me has now decreased, I would assume.
Twilight bothers me not even the slightest bit.
My upstairs neighbor's apartment looks like Damien's stacks, times a billion. He has built-in shelving all over, they are full. The stacks reach nearly to my hip (I'm 5'10") and they fill the corners and cover almost every inch of the floor. Its like heaven. I wish I could buy that many new books.

that's awesome. i'm planning on shelving all these when we move this year, it's hard to grab books you want to read if they're at the bottom of the pile.
and dang girl, you tall.
you should have a Cult book sale!! I know there are a lot of broke asses around here, but there are also some very generous folks. If nothing else folks could cover the shipping and you would know your books were in good hands.

I read "Twilight". It was so bad I won't pick up another one, even though over here I read anything in English b/c I get desperate. Everybody over here is like that. Stephanie Meyer's writing wasn't the problem, although not great. The book was full of typos and wrong word usage. I wanted to get on a plane, track the editor down and slap him or her. It was just atrocious, lazy, sloppy workmanship. I felt totally disrespected. I'll get a pic of my shelves up later.
good books
I really don't own that many novels. Most of my books I picked up at second hand stores.
does anyone else want to run in and knock all of these over?
yes
they liter my room and the basement studio they are every where shit..sometimes i feel pompous about having so many ...i remember some douche came over to toke it once and asked if I " ever read these books" he was being snide, so i shot back you know what..
momo(me):" actually i just use them to wipe my ass when we run out of toilet paper ,yeah..um we went through the tale of two cities in one week."
gonzo:"really?"
momo(me): " of course not what are you dense, the french revolution was bloody enough."
Gonzo:" what does the french revolution have anything to do with ..oh is that what is about"
Momo(me): sigh " uh ..yeah lets burn it."

I become insulted when people ignore my books. How pompus is that?
mel you kept that book A Million Little Pieces? as soon as i found out it was bs, i took it back to boarders and got a refund. bought wicked with it.
and alex. I am in love with the movie Spirited Away. All of Miyazaki actually.

Could never get into anything that was both Japanese and Animated. Separately, I enjoy them both. Combined they kind of just make a hybrid mutt mess.

Does everyone categorize their books in alphabetical order? I do that with most my books and sometimes a tiny book gets in between two fat ones - it's just unflattering to see on a shelf.
But that's just me.

I never could either, then I saw that movie.

Except for having a TBR shelf and an art book shelf, my books are in no particular order. Though they are somewhat aesthetically organized. For instance I don't like to have a bunch of mass market paperbacks together.

I organise by country starting from farthest east to where i live and by author i like most within that.
That may sound complicated, but it makes sense to me.
I catagorize by kind of book. Poetry, Religion, Crafts, Art, Sceience, Humor, Health, Fiction, Nonfiction, etc. But also by how much I care for the particular book. I have more than one section for each.
basement full of books
!
most of my books you own. this reminds me that i need to get a hold of infinite jest.
i didn't see any murakami books just by browsing but i approve you having kazuo ishiguro there.
if you like bill bryson, pick up a short history of nearly everything. that's a good one.

It is my great grandma. She was absolutly beautiful. The middle guy is my grandpa and the kid on the end is my brother. All of them are dead. Not that that is relevant.

Sorry to tread on that scab. Beautiful things, photographs.
This thread is splendid! But that could just be because words and photos make me happy...
I used to have a much larger collection, but I decided there's no point in keeping books that I won't read again, nor would I recommend to others.
Bookshelf 1- Not really organized in any particular order because my son likes to pull them off and throw them about, but I try to keep them organized in sections by author and by favorites.

Bookshelf 2- Consists mostly of nonfiction, informative, and larger books.

Milk crate- Comics and graphic novels.

Cabinet shelf- My son's books, which consists mostly of books I've kept since childhood.

no that you do or should care.

I care, but mostly for selfish reasons. Those being that I like to talk about things I love more than I like to argue about things I could care less about (although the occasional discussion between two clashing subjects can be intriguing). So I like that you share interests with me.
Neil Gaiman is an incredible writer. I wish I had gotten into him a lot earlier when I was in high school and my friend tried to introduce me. That's mostly because he came through Cleveland when I was living there, so alas, I have yet to meet him. I have enjoyed everything I've read of his, and I started with the Sandman graphic novels and immediately searched for books after a few of those.
Maus is incredible as well. My father (who introduced me to most of the older literature I own and have read) gave me those books and I think I went on a WWII literature crusade after that and found some decent ones. It's all pretty sickening, but some authors do a better job of depicting that.

I love WWII literature. I think I first fell in love with it in the 4th grade when I read Number the Stars I've read about half of the Sandman series, but they are super hard to find used, and I'm cheap, so I haven't finished it. Gaiman's books can be hit or miss for me, but I love him anyway, and I always finish them.
If you haven't read The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly or by Mark Zusak, you should. Both were sent to me (and several other culties) by Barca Boy. They are fantastic and by looking at your bookshelf I can tell you will love them as much as I did.

I was just going to make this thread, or find the old one, because of Sppcemonkey's request to see mine. But I guess I'll just post here!!
This is only part of my leatherbound collection. The rest are at my mom's house
The bottom of this shelf is the TBR shelf. Aside from that and some of the leatherbounds, I've read every one of these books.
And yeah, that's Twilight, what of it?!!
