shambolic interview with Bret Easton Ellis

Really I should say "interview", he basically takes the interviewer apart. Pretty entertaining.
Ha, indeed.

I'm not really sure why an editor would send the least qualified person on staff to do an interview like that. BEE was clearly pretty amused, though.
That "interview" was actually more revealing than most of what we usually get from him. It amuses me that it's even out there and available. In the old days, something like that would've just gotten buried (actually, it never would've happened to begin with). But it certainly illustrates the needed divide between the blogosphere and professional news organizations.
I dug it. Way more entertaining than most interviews. More entertaining than mine.
Really though, how many interviews can you read where the "prepared" journalists ask the same sets of questions? The entertainment industry is rife with those kind of shitty repetitive things. Things like this, where the subject is caught off guard and can roll with the punches, I love that. It's one of the reasons I like Adam Carolla's podcast, when he goes waaaay off topic with his guests.
Yeah, I didn't have much of a problem with the interview. I think it was horrible copy but it was a really good insight into BEE's personality.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
this was good because it allowed Ellis to open up and have a bit of fun, and poke a bit of fun. once he realised the guy actually knew nothing about him and had never read one of his books (well, except for 3/4 of Less Than Zero, of course. on that, how the fuck do you only read 3/4 of it? it's not even thick enough to be a paper weight, damnit. what a tosser). but it was awful because it was meant to be journalism, something a lot of people take very seriously, and if he was a decent journo he would have shown respect by researching and at least reading the book he is out on the media trail for. fucking shits me. there's a lot of journos that would love an interview with Bret because of how closed in he is. some journos that take their job seriously would love that challenge; to attempt to get him to divulge some interesting, exclusive information. but the thing is, they wouldn't resort to blatant stupidity and disrespect to do it.
fucking annoyed me. but i loved reading Bret take him down. fucking smug prick. why the editor decided to publish that is beyond me.
Or since Bret is promoting Imperial Bedrooms (or Less than Zero 2) the guy could have watched Less than Zero instead of American Psycho and faked it better.
You should change the thread title to HUNTER CARSON Interviews BEE.
LOL. awesome
why the editor decided to publish that is beyond me.
This is why I still have a hard time seeing any type of online literary sites or whatnot as being published.
Can you really describe that interview as being "published?"
yeah, i definitely agree with you on some level, Nate. but there's a lot of fucking good literary online-exclusive journals. and a lot that are prestigious print journals that have an online section as well. but there is a lot of shit out there too, and a lot of the shit will publish any old thing. which is a shame. but the people that matter know the difference.
i guess part 2 is up

Part one was much better, methinks.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?

well, that was certainly...pointless?
