September - Tell me what you've been reading
The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.
I loved the film adaptation of The Rachel Papers with Dexter Fletcher.
I didn't even know there was a movie adaptation of this.
The author went to my former high school and the book takes place in Pittsburgh!
Can't wait to see the movie. Some of it was shot in that high school!
If I read as fast as Derek, I'd start a thread in which you all tell me your favorite book of all time, I read it and tell you what I think of it in a review.
I need some old familiar comfort reading so I am trying to decide between reading a couple of the Chronicles of Narnia books or Anne of Green Gables.
Narnia.

I'm very excited about it, too. The book is great so far.
Have you read those to Lily yet?
I hated Perks of Being a Wallflower. It was so depressing and whiny.
Have you read those to Lily yet?
I have not, we tried The Little Princess and a couple others. Her attention span hasn't been well enough for books that long yet. But I should give it another try. She would love them.
She is a big talker, and reading becomes a social experiences. A question and discussion about every other line.

I have not. We tried A little princess and a couple others, but her attention span isn't big enough for such detailed stories.
She is a big talker and reading becomes a social experience, with her sparking conversation and questions with every couple of lines.
Heh.
Double post.
My cat jumped on the keyboard and I thought my post deleted instead of sticking.

I was supposed to be in this but it was shooting immediately after Won't Back Down wrapped and I was wiped out. Effectively, I chose Maggie Gyllenhaal over Emma Watson. Yes, I feel a little foolish about that now.
Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
I'm not sure I can see Emma Watson playing Sam. But I'm so glad Ezra Miller is in another movie I'll probably like, so I can't wait for it to be available.
This end of the year will be the shiznit in terms of what movies I want to see. Everything comes out in the next 3 months.

Ah, maybe in a year or two then!
I enjoyed it but that was because I was all depressed and whiny at the time when I read it. I still quote it from time to time. I'm kind of glad my friend lost the book though.
Catcher in the Rye is another whiny/depressing book I enjoyed too.
I'm trying to break away from that theme though and so far it's been doing me some good.
Also, it's not what I'm reading but I got my mom to read the Watchmen and she is thoroughly enjoying it, finding a shit load of symbolism that I overlooked and can't wait to go back and rediscover. I love that my mom loves to read and that she's taken an interest in the books I've suggested.
I liked the book. In fact, I liked it enough to give it 4 stars. I can't wait for the movie.
The Lie by Chad Kultgen.
I read Perks a while ago and I remember enjoying it but also cringing quite a bit. It was likeable though! I'll definitely go and see the film!
I'm kind of getting in to Time's Arrow now. At first it really gave me a headache trying to follow it but it's clicked now (took about 20 pages of confusion!) but though I feel very impressed by it I'm not as engaged as I'd like to be. Hopefully as I continue and the style feels more natural it'll be less of a barrier. It's very clever though, kind of irritatingly clever.
I love Chad Kultgen. He's a great author. And his subject is always like a very dirty version of BEE - IMO.
That's the same way I'm feeling about Cosmopolis right now.
I admit I quit Cosmopolis. I wasn't in the mood for it at all, it felt extremely smart-arse and pleased with itself.
Yeah, I know what you mean. But I'm halfway done and refuse to quit at this point.
The last two books I've read have been stinkers for me! (Though both get great reviews and are highly recommended...)
Also, is it me or is this day like 70 hours long? There is no way he's fitting all of this into one day/limo ride. It's like every fucking thing in the world is taking part during their drive. Like they can't find a faster route either?

Yeah, a more to-the-point and less serious version of Ellis. Kultgen has a new book coming out early next year called The Average American Marriage. I'm unable to find out if it's a sequel to The Average American Male.

Ah, one of my book club friends mentioned that we should read this next!
Three Lives by Gertrude Stein.
I still haven't read Men, Women, and Children (or whatever it's called). That's another one sitting on my shelf waiting patiently for me.
I've always wanted to read Don Delillo. I tried Underworld once but it was too daunting.
White Noise is great. I remember really enjoying that book. Maybe you should give that one a try?
LOVED White Noise! Read that!
I ended up not hating Cosmopolis. I was prepared to give it 2 stars until the end. Then I sat and thought about it for a bit and gave it 3. So it kinda/sorta won me over. But really it only proved to me it was okay, not good.
Gonna start The Exorcist soon.
I'll have to find White Noise next time i look at books. The Amazon preview was interesting enough.
Can't wait!
Do that but also, Libra is the book that made James Ellroy want to write.
hmm, really? I'll have to check out Libra some time then.
finished "post office". it was awesome. now I want to start with lullaby or rant. both books I`ve postponed for too long. the only ones by chuck I haven`t read yet. can`t decide right now cause I´m really into both stories...
recommendations?
.I'm beginning to believe that anything I do to extend my life is just going to be outweighed by the agony of living it.
Lullaby!
Rant, I started out not liking (I'm not into redneck culture), but then there is a shift in tone and I ended up loving it.
Oh speaking of Delillo, I've been reading Mao II again.
Just finished We Need to Talk About Kevin.
SOOOOO FUCKING GOOD!!!
Finished Copperfield. Not sure what to start next. I have so much queued-up back-log.

Finally finished The Ear of the Other by Derrida. Halfway through Three Lives.
Please do not shoot me in the face.
Because fuck you Bradley Sands.

That book was a lot of fun.
I've wondered about that book. Booked Podcast did a review of it and they seemed to like it.
Please, please, please let me know what you think of it? I have this on my must read shelf for ages.
The Sum of Our Days by Isabel Allende.

I'm reading Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain because the last time i tried to read it my dog chewed up the last 1/4th of the book but i found another copy. It's good so far.
