September - Tell me what you've been reading
No one's read anything for three days? Don't believe it.
I've been on a muli-book reading binge since I remembered a couple weeks ago how school does that thing where it sucks all my reading-for-fun-time into a black hole that is whatever math and science class I've foolishly sworn and paid for the privilege to undertake.
I've a chapter left of Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World by Michael Lewis... as far as non-fiction books about the financial crisis go... this one is highly entertaining.
Also nearly finished with What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank by Nathan Englander... which is my new favorite short story collection.
China in Ten Words by Yu Hua was an impulse buy that I've just started. So far so good. I don't know anything about China but this seemed like a good place to start.
Taking a break from Game of Thrones until I finish at least two of these other books... I somehow found myself going through the first season of the show in about a week so I expect I'll enjoy this.
How to Piss in Public by Galvin McInnes is thus far hilarious and informative and hilarious and probably the reason I'm reading so many books at the same time... I'm trying to pace myself with this one because I don't want to go back to the way life was when I didn't have another chapter of this book to look forward to.
When I'm done with these, I'll probably dive into the A+ Guide to the Principles of Macro Biology and Troubleshooting.

Also, I haven't read the books yet. But I started the TV series last night.
OH MY FUCKING GOD. I was up until three am. Every time one ended I had to had to had to see the next one. Watched five episodes in a row and only stopped because by sheer force of will. I felt like in the portlandia skit where they let their whole lives go over Battle star galactia (or whatever it was) Just one more episode, Just One More!!! What happens next!!!! I must know!
can't wait to read the books.

Extroverting it up, mostly.
It's exhausting and I don't know why you let me go.

My eyeballs' hearts go out to your eyeballs' hearts.
I'm reading "Unholy Night" by Seth Grahame-Smith. It's Heavenly. I was enjoying it thoroughly but had to pause long enough to eat some Honey Comb. While spooning up this golden goodness I popped in here. I will now be returning to "Unholy Night" in hopes of finishing it. It's what the French call a real "Le Page Turner".
Hahaha I love TyStreet's avatar.
I'm reading the Collected Stories of Amy Hempel and it's meh.
Halfway through Gravity's Rainbow.
I read The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. It's lovely. It goes kind of airy fariy at the end, but it's so sweet.
And I'm still making my way through the Sookie Stackhouse books I'm up to Dead in the Family, which I think is book 9. I got all my books signed by Charlaine Harris too!
Started reading The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen. Liking it already!
Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut
The man's a genius. But you all know that already.
Also, Jessica, I missed you.
Still plowing through Last Call (Daniel Okrent), the book on Prohibition. Very dense, very good.

I know it.
What I actually mean by that is... I missed you too. And how long did it take you to get through half a Gravity's Rainbow?
Right there with you.

I started it last Thursday. But if it helps I've been reading Sartre's Being and Nothingness for almost two months and I still have 110 pages left.
D'awww.... I like how you knew exactly what a punch to the gut of my ego that information would be.
There there
I Didn't Mean to be Kevin
the third chimpanzee
bonobo handshake
...I swear I read things that aren't primate-related. it's just a weird coincidence.
“if you want to be a bird,” you said once, “with colorful plumage and buoyant trills, you must also be ready for hollow bones."
Pontypool Changes Everything - nothing to say about it. It's an instance where the movie is way better than the book. And in the author notes at the end, Tony Burgess says that he doesn't like the book and thought it was terrible. So, yeah.
Started Breakfast of Champions. Didn't mean to, but it just kind of sucks you in.
Taking a break, so reading a bio of Joe Strummer.
Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
Project Management for Dummies.
The Color Purple by Alice Walker.
I just picked up another of her books from the Library (Alice Walker) the other day.
Cannot remember the name. Something about love. It is in the other room.
We Need to Talk About Kevin
The Martian Chronicles
Rad - I just rediscovered Bradbury. Martian Chronicles will probably be the next one of his books I read. Hope you like it!
Yes.
I've read about a third of The Color Purple. I fucking love it.
I appear to be reading David Copperfield.

Machine Man by Max Barry.
That's in my top 10.
Really, though, I love so many books that I can't come up with an honest to goodness top ten, but if I had a top ten, that'd be in it.
I cried when Nettie came home.
I haven't. Not yet. I can't watch it yet, and if it is that true to the book, I think there are some scenes I could not watch.
The Color Purple is really amazing.

Inside the Mind of BTK by John Douglas.
Strange thing to say but I'm running out of serial killers to read about.
Who's your favourite ? Mine's Ed Kemper.

My favorite true crime is David Simon's Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets. It's very long, and quite thorough, reading like a novel. It follows a number of investigations in the Baltimore homicide unit (Simon, then a newspaper reporter, was embedded with them for a year), the frustration, the open cases, the detectives' lives, the challenges with urban witnesses and evidence. Fascinating, and fantastic primer for anyone wanting to write this stuff realistically. It was the basis for the TV series of the same name, as well as The Wire and The Corner.
I agree, Homicide is a fantastic book.

Reading An Introduction to Psychology by a Romanian psychologist, and a sort of diary by another Romanian author.
Homicide is great.
But, John Douglas is a great True Crime author. I've read quite a bit of his books. I have BTK sitting on my shelf. I've been meaning to read it for like a year now.
I've also been meaning to read Homicide for probably that long also...
I'm reading Dare Me by Megan Abbott. I'm hooked! I'd be enjoying it more if it wasn't for the style it's written in, I feel like it doesn't always flow as well as it should. Really though it's secrets and mean cheerleaders and sex and sport and I really like it.
I was just flipping through stuff on my nook, not sure what to read next. And I got sucked into If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino.
Made me cry twice.
Makes me cry twice a week.
Hey, I just finished that one last week or so! I found Megan Abbott by searching for more authors like Gillian Flynn (I looooooove her!).
Dare Me is like Meangirls with extra MEAN. I really liked it, too.

Hi! Where the hell have you been?!
I am reading QUITE, the Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking. By Susan Cain
