are you ordering this all at once? if so, drop stranger than fiction (your second nonfiction title in there) and swap it out for dermaphoria by craig clevenger. seriously amazing writing, wonderful book.

i've come to believe that one of the chapters in there is the most perfectly written chapter of all chapters. i know some other people here hold that belief as well.

you'll love beat the reaper. have you read any denis johnson? if not, give jesus son a try.

Would you like us to buy them for you and then read them too?

I buy most of my books from amazon. And if I want it cheaper - I buy it used from an amazon seller.

Which chapter??

Yeah, I echo Jesus' Son and Beat the Reaper, and add Kockroach by Tyler Knox and Await Your Reply by Dan Chaon.

I just added Await Your Reply to my amazon wishlist a week ago! Looks SO GOOD. I've got a copy of Kockroach sitting on my bookshelf, can't want to find time to get to it.

Chapter ten of Dermaphoria is the most perfectly written chapter of anything I've ever read, in context to the story as a whole and out of context as well.

Chapter 10 is excellent as a stand alone chapter and in the context of the rest of the book. I love Dermaphoria, it's probably in my top 10 favorite books, but the most perfect piece of writing for me is Garcia Marquez's novella: 'Chronicle of a Death Foretold'.

I hope you read 'Await Your Reply' next! Soon! I want to know what you think.

I don't know if it's up your alley, but I will always recommend Alasdair Gray's first novel, Lanark.

i broke down with a little encouragement from my favorite welsh cultie and ordered 'Await Your Reply' earlier. It will be here FRIDAY, that gives me 48 hours to finish edits on Mike's novel! Super RED PEN go!

Mirka, have you ever read 'Mefisto in Onyx' by Harlan Ellison? I read it years ago and never forgot it. Bits and pieces found their way into my soul. 90 or so pages of hellish novella heaven.

Well, I don't like Phillip Roth or Thomas Pynchon so do you still think I might enjoy it? (I mention those two authors because they seem to be among your favorites. Maybe I'm wrong)

Yeah, I think you'd enjoy it, because it's a) the best book ever, and Glasses it's very different from Roth or Pynchon.

I managed to get a few Culties to read it, and most of them have claimed to like it. Some, like Nate, said they loved it.

It's a really moving book, but it's also weird as hell. It took the guy 25 years to write!

I added to my wishlists on my book swap sites. I'll give it a try since you love it so much. I'm not buying any more books for now. I've got way too much to read as it is. I still haven't read John Irving's new book, or Jon Krakauer's!

I am rereading AWAIT YOUR REPLY and taking notes for an interview with the author. I am terrified and excited.
