i'm about a quarter of the way through this massive book and it is amazing. not palahniuk es-q, but insanly talented writer. reading it is quite a commitment but i would recomend it to anybody.

no, keep sloggin, he's awesome. i couldn't get into the series you're reading (past as science-fiction never catches for me), but he wrote another one called diamond age that really digs into what it means to educate yourself, and also another one called snow crash that's incredibly good. even if you end up ditching the one you're reading, you should try them out.
Never read him, but I heard he's an incompetent novelist. Apparently his novels almost always run out of steam.
