Movember 2010 and I am reading...
Joyce Carol Oates is awesome. She was kind enough to sign my copy of Blonde for my Marilyn Monroe collection.
Let me know what this is like?
This was my first Oates, and it was quite enjoyable. Not sure what her other material is like but I'll definitely be reading more. The narrator in this one reminded me of Patrick Bateman minus the murderous rampages.
I was going to say that if you've joined the cult Christmas gift exchange, that's a good idea for the person buying for you. :)
Taking it back, it is the script, and indeed I can't find the real book anywhere. National Day sucks, rainy and not even a chance of snow, no really interesting movies uptown, and now this, it's a damn movie script. Or maybe.. it's supposed to be like that.. All short sentences, script-like dialogue and all. But I highly doubt it. Anyway, reading Residence on Earth by Pablo Neruda now.
have you maybe tried abebooks.com or even amazon? they both sell used books, I'm sure you could find it on there and get it shipped to you for not too much money.

Thanks, I have, the only thing with Amazon is that shipping costs more than the book itself, and I'm speaking double digits, only because I don't live in an awesome country. But in two years I'll live in London and everything will be so much better/easier.
I was required to read City of Thieves last year when I worked for Borders, and I didn't think I was in the mood to read it just from hearing the basic plot and subject matter. It deals with the Nazi siege of Leningrad during World War II.
Benioff didn't write your normal dry historical fiction novel here, however. It's a much lighter read than you expect, and I have been telling everyone I know to read this book.
mosquito - I'm guessing that was meant for me. I'll keep that in mind. I really loved The 25th Hour and I'm probably going to start recommending the shit out of it. It's a book that a dude can feel comfortable getting emotional about. And I think that says something.
I'll check out City of Thieves. But if you're wrong...

No, it starts out overly descriptive - which I usually hate. But I started to get in to it. And as the book goes on there are less and less overly descriptive passages.
