Movember 2010 and I am reading...
I'll try to come up with some good stuff some time today.
Military Misdemeanors: Corruption, Incompetence, Lust, and Downright Stupidity - Terry Crowdy. A remaindered hardcover for three bucks. I got it mostly because it's about 5x8 and has red and yellow stripes on the cover, making it a literary happymeal.
Also, a bio of Joe Strummer.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Thanks, Pete!
I just finished Infinite Jest last night. It's a better book that I remembered. It was like I'd never read it before.
I'm not sure if I should give it some space and read something fluffy next, or dive headlong into another immersive book. I'm leaning towards the latter.
There is hope, but not for us.
I FINALLY finished The House of Mirth It was... bad. Its like Edith Wharton wrote this book and didn't know where to go with it, so she went all Hardy-style in the last 5 or 10 pages.
I had to force myself to read the last 100-150 pages.
Next up: Love in the Time of Cholera
"I'm glad I live in the GPS era. In a different century, I would've set off to visit the other side of the village and wandered off into the mountains and been eaten by a carnivorous plant. Or discovered the Americas."

Spook Country by William Gibson
Rereading Diary by Chuck.
Matt I read Incognito and I'm currently finishing up the Criminal series (I don't know if there are more in the works, but I'm reading Sinners right now). You would love both of those series. Brubaker has another series called Sleeper. If it's as good as the other two - I'd recommend that too.
Motley Crue The Dirt
Oh, Lord.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Haha Tuffy!
I just finished it. I found it pretty entertaining. The Ozzy part was totally outrageous, and the bit about Vince Neil's daughter brought tears to my eyes. But those guys are total arseholes. Except for maybe Mick Mars, who I mostly felt sorry for. I like how each band member had a totally different version of events. I'm not a huge fan of their music, but this was worth a read.
I'm just about to start Wuthering Heights.
The Wrong Kind of Blood by Declan Hughes.
This book is great. I know everyone here thinks I'm a dickhead for liking bands like Motley Crue and Gunners, but fuck it, I do. I just listened to Dr. Feelgood the other day and loved every over-the-top sleazy minute of it. Especially the sample of the fly unzipping in the bridge section of "She Gown Down".
Great book though.
A Feast for Crows by George RR Martin.
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides. Read it, saw the movie, started reading the book again -- it's that good.
Rich --
I approve.

Damn, I really liked The Contortionist's Handbook!

hahaha.
I still stand by my opinion that Dermaphoria is better. And it's likely that St. Heretic will top Derma, too.
I've only read TCH, so I can't say. I'll read Dermaphoria soon enough though.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I lied. I'm delaying reading Wuthering Heights, and I've started Graham Chapman's A Liar's Autobiography.
Liar.

I totally am.

The Day of the Locust By Nathaniel West

"Am I cruel? Probably. Is she an idiot? Yes." -jane s.
well it doesn't matter what i'm reading right now, because i read about five or six books at a time. but in other news, i finally got my girlfriend to read her first chucky p. book: survivor. which is a huge step up from what she usually reads (i hope she doesn't see this, lol). but i'm not sure what to throw on her lap next. maybe.... uhh.... probably a satire. something she's really not used to. possibly an anthony burgess novel. but not a clockwork orange. few can understand that novel. hahaha
but, for all you post-nazis out there:
i am currently reading:
Moses and Akhenaten (Ahmed Osmen... first time)
brief interviews with hideous men (DFW, about the fifth time)
infinite jest (DFW, second time)
umm...
well, that's all i have around me right now. everything else is at home and is probably crap none of you would like: i.e.: The Fabric of Cosmos by Brian Greene and even the holy Qur'an. but i guess, you never know. maybe you guys are into that stuff.

I'll look for it.
You are totally awesome, dude!

The Book Of Joe by Jonathan Tropper. It reminds me of Jay McInerney or the first couple Chabon books. I love it.
You are totally awesome, dude!
Is this guy for real?
I must check him out. What would you recomend?
Yeah, I read that sophomore year in highschool.

Coraline by Neil Gaiman.
Started reading "The World is Flat: Ver. 3.0" but then got "The Year of the Flood" by Margaret Atwood - dystopian fiction wins over non-fiction.

Yeah, I read that sophomore year in highschool.
Perhaps he meant that few of his girlfriends can understand A Clockwork Orange?
God, I hope that's what he meant.

This one must be great.

It is so far Ludwig.

I'm currently reading The 25th Hour by David Benioff. It's really good so far. I wish he had more books out. The other book he has out doesn't sound like something I'd be in the mood for right now.

Joyce Carol Oates is awesome. She was kind enough to sign my copy of Blonde for my Marilyn Monroe collection.
Let me know what this is like?
I've been looking for that book for seven goddamned years because the movie is one of my all-time favourites. Please tell me if it rises to the expectations.
Why is it hard to find?
Just about every book store I've walked in and checked for it has had it.
Also, I didn't put 2 and 2 together about the movie until after reading your post. I was like, "Huh? Oh that Ed Norton movie is based on the book?!" haha

Well it is so hard to find because we only have a few English libraries and none of them has it. And as far as I know it has only been translated by a publishing house with incredibly bad translators, edition that can't even be found anywhere.
But nevermind, I found an online ebook as I was typing this. Will most definitely start reading it in the morning
Awesome!
I was going to say that if you've joined the cult Christmas gift exchange, that's a good idea for the person buying for you.

Taking it back, it is the script, and indeed I can't find the real book anywhere. National Day sucks, rainy and not even a chance of snow, no really interesting movies uptown, and now this, it's a damn movie script. Or maybe.. it's supposed to be like that.. All short sentences, script-like dialogue and all. But I highly doubt it. Anyway, reading Residence on Earth by Pablo Neruda now.

That's an old list. I've gone through nearly all of those books. I checked that first after I realized the list was gone. But if you have any recommendations (and I'm sure you do!) message me them on Facebook, please.
