I see that a lot of people are talking about Miranda July's book - No One Belongs Here More Than You. So I was doing some research. She's got a pretty cute site that is promoting it. I thought it would be nice to post it here.

If you don't know or haven't heard about this book here's a descriptions:

Book Description wrote:
Book Description
Award-winning filmmaker and performing artist Miranda July brings her extraordinary talents to the page in a startling, sexy, and tender collection. In these stories, July gives the most seemingly insignificant moments a sly potency. A benign encounter, a misunderstanding, a shy revelation can reconfigure the world. Her characters engage awkwardly -- they are sometimes too remote, sometimes too intimate. With great compassion and generosity, July reveals their idiosyncrasies and the odd logic and longing that govern their lives. No One Belongs Here More Than You is a stunning debut, the work of a writer with a spectacularly original and compelling voice.

And Amy Hempel had this to say about the book:

Amy Hempel wrote:
A woman gives swimming lessons in her kitchen -- of course! Miranda July can make anything seem normal in these truly original stories. She has first-rate comic timing and a generous view of the human condition. Maybe best of all, there's joy here, too, often where you would not expect to find it.

-- Amy Hempel, author of The Collected Stories of Amy Hempel

Which around here is probably reason enough to buy the book.

That's one of the few author/book gimmick sites that actually made me want to buy the book. Very nice!

I bought it last week. It's pretty short and will take only an afternoon or maybe even only part of one to read. As far as the actual stories go, I have mixed feelings. Some were amateur efforts I'd expect from a first time author; most recycled tropes, themes, etc. from each other; but a select few hit on something deep. 'Something That Requires Nothing' is an example of this last and the best story in the collection. It's worth buying just to read that one story.

That website is great! I laughed at the colour matching on Nice Big American Baby.

Miranda July is cute as a bug's ear. And I never use Southern colloquialisms for anything unless I mean it!
