May- Dammit I nearly forgot and I am reading...
Was thinking about picking this up. It's a sequel to Plainclothes Naked, right?
I have no idea! I hope so because 'Pain Killers' is almost finished and I'd love to read another book like it.
Just had a check and it might not be a direct sequel but both books have the same main characters - Manny and Tina.
Thanks, yeah I checked it out and it seems that 'Pain Killers' takes place 10 years after the first one. I've read some serious spoilers in this one. Oh well, the characters are so compelling and the writing so fun and clever that I'll still read 'Plainclothes Naked'.
I'm still yet to pick up House of Leaves. even after Kit, Pete and Timby worked me up for it the other night. i think because i know it's going to consume me i am somehow waiting for the chance to read it all in one gulp. i don't know.
so i'm reading Bukowski's Tales of Ordinary Madness.
Still reading The Devil Rides Out. The casual racism, the sensationalism and the seriousness with which the author takes his subject matter (Satanism, black magic, etc) all amount to an awesome read. Ah, the 1930s!

I'm slowly going through Mein Kampf. I'm still intrigued.
"Consume" is the right term, yes. Though I read it over the course of about three months, myself. Had to get out the House, so to speak. Still one of my favorite reading experiences ever.
I'm reading John Dies at the End by David Wong. It may not win any prose awards, but it's very exciting, pacey as hell, surreal, and hilarious. The Beat the Reaper crowd might dig it.

I found out. Since '79 all royalties have been donated to charity.

speaking of historical books, I'm actually really excited for this!

nooo! don't let hate arise from such a beautiful thing as cupcakes. yes, our alliances are different, but we're all in it for the same good of the people. I mean, CUPCAKES! how can you go wrong? Unless there's like, bits of finger in it.
but fuck jews. yeah.

No, Cupcake Royale isn't that bad. They use to be bad a couple years ago. I actually don't go to Trophy anymore either, but sometimes to a place called Sweet Cakes in downtown Kirkland. So really, I'm the traitor.

Have you ever seen the documentary? If so, how does this compare? (I wasn't a big fan of the doc, myself--too gossipy. I preferred the more technical A Decade Under The Influence.)
Also, have you started that Alex Cox book on spaghetti westerns yet? I'm very curious as to the level of Mr. Cox's literary acumen.

No, I haven't seen the documentary. I agree that the book likes to stir shit and tends to lend an ear to remours that might not always be founded, but it's funny to see those established guys when they were younger and wilder.
I've read 10,000 Ways to Die (it's a quick read) and found it interesting, even though it tends to put down the classical western a bit too much to my taste (don't touch John Ford !) in order to promote the italian authors. Leone doesn't need it, and in spite of some flashes of brilliance, all the others, Corbucci and Sollima included, are far behind. It's just a minor problem, though, and in my opinion it's the most thorough book on the subject. A nice complement is Cox's earlier version of 10,000... (readable for free here : http://www.alexcox.com/freestuff/10000_WAYS_TO_DIE.pdf )

Haha, don't worry.
It's not like I like his way of thinking, it's just interesting to read about!
