Dude, The Pugilist At Rest is phenomenal. My favorite one is "Mosquitoes". Enjoy it, dude.

I'm reading the Emperors Thread. I really want to revive this and create another one, but I;m sure no one would participate and a fight would just ensue.

Reading Beat the Reaper. So far I really really like it. Good rec Mirk!

I'm listening to Stephen King's new one Under the Dome in my car. It's pretty good. Sometimes I just sit in my car because I don't want to miss what happens next.

Yes! The three best books I read last year were probably 'Kockroach', 'Reply', and 'Reaper'!

Rob Hart interviewed the author of 'Kockroach', and it's going up tomorrow. Oh, and guess who recommended that book to us? Mr. Craig Clevenger. Smile He says it's one of the best books he's read in YEARS. That's kind of his 'Reaper', the book that he recommends every chance he gets.

Yeah - I've been in a King kick lately. I reread On Writing and it got me going. The guy might not be the best "writer" but he can tell a good fucking story.

I've been meaning to order both Kockroach and Await Your Reply ever since your first post about them. Since you recommended The Gargoyle, I've been all ears every time you rec something. I freaking loved that book.

I've just finished reading High Fidelity by Nick Hornby (because I'd never read it, or any of his stuff) and I was wondering which of a ton of books on my shelves to start next but my decision has been made: Stephen King's The Dark Tower it is. I only have Volume 1 but we'll see how I get on...

What do you think about High Fidelity. I finished that last week and I'm really not sure if I liked it or not... I mean it was ok. But I was going into it thinking I was going to love it.

Great book. Great character. i loved this book, oly read it for the first time a few weeks ago. it's a super quick read. took me a few hours. i'm reading Women by him now, which is meant to be the template for Hank Moody from Californication (my latest fictional man crush).

hope you enjoy it. we always seems to read similar stuff around the same time. odd.

It's very good so far. Have only read it for half an hour during lunch at work.

I'd heard that about Hank Moony/Californication. It was the main reason for wanting to read Bukowski but I thought I'd start at the beginning.

Will probably pick up Women and maybe Ham and Rye too in my next mass purchase.

yeah, i bought and read P.O first because i like starting at the beginning. now, i'm just bummed it took me so long to discover Bukowski, because i'm friggin' loving the shit out of his stuff at the moment. Ham On Rye is next. Factotum is another Chinaski story, too.

speaking of Bukowski, i'm just about to watch Barfly. Amazing!

Been a busy boy without my computer. Finished Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, which i quite liked. Then hit Faulkner's A Light in August and Sanctuary. Read After Dark by Haruki Murakami a few days ago. Almost done with Grass on the Wayside by Natsume Soseki and Roshomon and other Stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa. Next, i think, is The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima or The Face of Another by Kobo Abe. Too, reading SHINTO: The Fountanhead of Japan by Jean Herbert, which is this big book about Shintoism, which is my most recent focus of study.

I'm saving that one, actually. I read the Faulkner ones because i had them checked out of the library forever and needed to finally give them back. Then i've been reading these Japanese fellows and all about Shintoism for a project i'm doing.

Fear not, good sir Levi, your book sits next to my bed every day waiting to be read. And it shall!

it betta!!

But that's actually really cool about the Shintoism. i'm in a Japanese Art History class now, and i could not be more immersed in Japanese stuff. I'm really liking it. Our teacher is sort of like, *sigh*........she's sort of like Gaga. She taught at harvard, and is really really eccentric and crazy and wears really out there fashion that is really really expensive, and she's really frightening, and calls students out in class, but I really admire her for her knowledge. She knows just about anyone who is worth anything in the art history world regarding asian arts. If I had a good recommendation letter from her, Working at the british museum in london would be a breeze, because she's like this (crossed fingers) with him. But her clothes.....are soo gaga. I can't even describe them. Like, giant wool bubble dresses paired with black tights, knee high argyle socks and shiney gold high heels. everything is a designer brand. She's unmarried so she spends her money on clothes. awesome.

I have this favourite bookstore in the city where all the staff know me. Ive been buying books off them these last ten years. I didnt realise it until lately that they have an actual list in chronological order of all the books Ive ordered off them. The other day the owner commented that the titles I get are getting stranger and stranger as I go on.
Yesterday I ordered Kockroach, Await Your Reply and Salmonella Men on Planet Porno. I dont think I will ever beat the last one.

I plan to finish up Dracula later today. I also re-read Alice in Wonderland a few days ago, forgot how much I loved it. I'm kind of on a Victorian binge lately so I might try re-reading some old standby, like Jane Eyre.

There's actually a pretty fascinating legal battle going on over rights to the Millennium Trilogy books/movie deals/etc. The author had a live-in girlfriend and was mostly estranged from his family, but their laws (Norway? I think?) say that only a legal spouse has rights to the deceased's property and works.

derek, i think you sent me The Never Enders by Michael Sonbert back in august, along with some sweets and a little green irishman and a picture of cujo. i cannot find that book. ive made a mess of the house looking. it's in some stack, somewhere around here. if that's the one you sent. i vaguely remember that it was. the 2009 year, needless to say, was tough on my reading habits. i was reading mostly workshop submissions and finished very few books throughout the entire year.

anyrate, i'll find it. maybe i'll wake next morning and recall exactly where i stashed it.

march, i am reading the following. im halfway through tell-all. ive already read toxicology, bleed into me, and ledfeather, but my memory of them is so sparse and silly that i want to breathe through them again. the jim crace i picked up with another of his at a used bookstore in downtown a couple of weekends ago. the william gay, i'm restarting from scratch; it's seriously that good that i dont wanna start after several months at the halfway point. oronooko ive been swooning over for a month or so now. ive gone through most of jauss' essays, but i wanna finally finish the text. and norwood, derek's favorite charles portis novel, i read probably six years ago and need to reread it. as for lowboy and amnesiascope, , though i know absolutely nothing about either book, i am a fan of both authors so i just went out and got them and i'll probably burn through all of these in the coming weeks.
