Kick Arse. Sounds like it could be a little of 'Glamorama' but with an author instead of an actor. That's what I'm hoping, autobiogs can be a little dull.

My mom bought me this for my birthday last night. I plan on reading it for the book club even though I'm itching to read it right now... Hopefully I can wait.

eeeeeeeeeeee!

MILD SPOILERS

I got this today and I'm about halfway through. The stuff about AP when Kimbell comes to see him is interesting and the scene in the garden was actually fairly scary. I'm so addicted to this, if I haven't finished it by the time I start work tomorrow I just know I'll be sneaking off to the toilets to do a few lines every now and again.

Oh yeah, past tense! Gasp. Doesn't quite seem like him.

I'm halfway through. Rock.

He signed it and American Psycho for me at the Barnes and Noble in Union Square last night. Rock.

Funny guy. Gave a great reading and I got to chat him up for a couple of minutes.

Hopefully, you are joking or else you will be in for a big surprise.

Anyway, finished first part and he sounds a lot like Chuck. Hopefully this changes real quick.

I guess he really does dig Chuck and wasn't just blurbing his books to be nice.

Book was a bit of a disappointment, but after Glamorama anything would be. I think I will like it more the 2nd time. I wish he didn't lift from Chuck more blatantly later in the book, that pissed me off.

Shit's haunting though....

It sucks, so fucking boring i'm barely getting through it, whats with these guys or is it me. I read American Psycho and Glamorama and Less than Zero multiple times, I just reread Glamorama recently so i think this idiot has lost it and not me. He has no more books in him!!

I found its structure and style very disconcerting... at first. It is obviously not written like ANYTHING Ellis has ever written before. Still, unlike King, whom this book is a definate "homage" to, Ellis does not publish two books or more per year. This is a sign that nothing about this alteration in method or subject matter was done lightly or flippantly. Then again and at the same time, I think I do see where you're coming from. I'm sure you aren't 'losing it', and neither has Ellis. But if he never writes another novel--and this is always possible--I believe this 'career summation via fiction' is a worthy final word from the man that has never given us so many books that we can't read his entire output over a thorough half-year's time. Hopefully--like I felt about LTZ and Glamorama--by the end, you'll be glad you took the time. Less Than Zero was the only one of the two I just mentioned that I felt totally better about by the end--Glamorama was one I was simply happy to have been able to force myself to finish.

Discussions in the Book Club on this novel will either prove terribly interesting--or terribly, terribly confusing and disenchanting. I can't see any happy middle-ground.

I somewhat take it back, at around page 230 it gets really good and i'm enjoying it, sort of when the whole writer identity picks up and i agree there's more to this than a steven king thing but it was so non interesting for like 200 pages.

Excellent. I've finally heard from another person--other than myself to myself--that really seems to have seen it. I'm glad you liked it, man. I know I did, for reasons I know I have and will have a hard time articulating to/with others. Maybe other Ellis fans will too. Smile But as with every other Ellis book, I don't think he cares whether readers or fans will like it or not, fall to the wayside or stay the course with him. I know I'm glad I stayed the course. Why? It's too hard to articulate...

That's Ellis--young and now, only a little bit older.

I read most of this book in one day! I only had 40 pages to read today and I read them as soon as I woke up. It's been a long time since I was so into a book that I lost myself in it like that. The discussion for it should be pretty interesting.

NO! Man, no, PLEASE don't start there. You need to go back to the beginning and read Less Than Zero, then The Rules of Attraction, then American Psycho. The Informers (short stories written around the time and in the same vein as LTZ) and Glamorama are good to read--but not at all necessary to Lunar Park.

Even Ellis went back and reread those books in order to write Lunar Park--especially American Psycho, which in interviews he has said he hadn't read since it was published... and his views of it these many years in time and maturity later are VERY interesting. But yes, read the others first, or you will absolutely NOT get the point(s) of Lunar Park.

Good luck, man... Smile
