July 2011 - February 2012 Book Club Selections
I know it's a weird span - but that's just how it works out. I wanted to start a new thread to let everybody know what we have coming up.
July 2011 - Tobacco-Stained Mountain Goat by Andrez Bergen
August 2011 - Sinister Miniatures by Kris Saknussemm
September 2011 - Warmed and Bound
October 2011 - The Samaritan by Fred Venturini
November 2011 - Slut Lullabies by Gina Frangello
December 2011 - You Can Make Him Like You by Ben Tanzer
January 2012 - The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock
February 2012 - In Zanesville by Jo Ann Beard
We also have the authors stopping by for every one of those books except In Zanesville (so if anybody knows Jo Ann Beard, you know...).
I think the Book Club is going to be pretty awesome this round through.
Also, for those that don't know, Warmed and Bound is an anthology that is being put out by our sister site The Velvet. A lot of great authors in that one and I'm sure a good majority will be stopping by to discuss their work.
Good list. I've already read or am planning to read just about all of those.

This one I know nothing about. I'll probably check it out though.

Just joined. Off to get the July read now! Thanks^_^
I am trying to find 'Warmed and Bound', and I'm not having any luck. Who is the author and does any one know where I might be able to find it?
Thank you!
It's not out yet. It's an anthology put out by The Velvet - which is the official site of Will Christopher Baer, Craig Clevenger, and Stephen Graham Jones.
It's not for sale just yet.
Here's the website: http://warmedandbound.com/
JINX!
Awesome! Thank you for you FAST responses
I was trying to get an order together for the next few books.
I'm still working on the Tobacco-Stained Mountain Goat in between my school work :s
Hope to get into the convo on that one asap! Don't want to go in and read anything to influence my opinions.
TTYL!
Just wondering Pete - are you planning to fit Damned into this list somewhere when it's released?

I hadn't thought about it, but we probably should right? Also - I thought it was a pretty good read.
It comes out in October. And I already talked to all the authors through January. They are all scheduled and confirmed. I'd hate to bump any of them. Jo Ann Beard is the only one I haven't tried to contact, so we can bump that one and discuss it in February.
I'd still love to discuss In Zanesville. So just move that to March?
I think we should add Eugenides new book to the list.

Yes, for sure!

That sounds cool. - If you have already been in personal contact with the other guys/gals then yeah it would be a shame to have to move their slot now.
I haven't actually read Damned yet. I got a nefarious copy on my PC but I still can't decide whether to read that or wait for the book. Seeing as it's just a month now I'm thinking wait.

Considering the quality of his last few books, I probably won't bother with it at all.

Even though most of the feedback has been pretty good so far?
Don't get me wrong - I don't think he has written a great book since Rant. However I did find the newer ones to be quite funny. I am actually looking forward to Damned now.

I couldn't get into Rant and Snuff was just ridiculous and predictable. Maybe if more people I know read it and love it I'll pick it up in paperback, or better yet, used.

While we're on the subject of adding books to the list, Josh Bazell's Wild Thing might be one to add seeing how popular Beat the Reaper was around here. No release date as yet though?
Hey Lizard King, I was wondering where you buy your books from in NZ? I quite often can't find a lot of books mentioned here.
Yeah that new Bazell book is another one I'm stoked for.
Hey. Amazon usually. Amazon UK has free shipping to NZ at the moment and with the exchange rate the way it is, it's really cheap - about $10 NZ per book. If I'm going to have to pay for shipping, I usually put in a bulk order to cut out most of the shipping costs. It's still cheaper than going into Whitcoulls or wherever even with shipping.

Cool. That's good to know, thanks. But it sure is a bummer we just don't get decent books here. The best book shop in Welly is probably Unity Books.

Does Victoria Uni have a bookshop? Also, you can always get the bookshops to order books in for you.
Yes it does, I actually work for Vic Uni, the book shop is ok, but not great,

Woohoo! Book Club!
