I've never read any of his fiction either, but I always loved his book reviews in The New Yorker

He lived in my area. Although I have no clue who he is. I picked up a local paper the other day and saw the artical about his death.

I've never read any of his fiction, but it was really just last night that I read his notorious review of the last Houellebecq novel. Odd timing.
