It's November and I'm reading
Venus in Furs by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch and Lady Chatterley's Lover, which I find incredibly boring.
I finished Cloud Atlas, it was great! 4/5.
I'll probably start reading Shogun today.
Right on time, Imke! I'm going to the movies today.
I'm giving up on this for the moment. I'm starting on Tommyland. Just for fun.
Started 14 by Peter Clines. So far it's ok.
finished Steps by Jerzy Kosinski last night after a very long day of work filled with them. there were a few bits i found absolutely remarkable.
had to share this title.
I'm giving up on this for the moment. I'm starting on Tommyland. Just for fun.
The first part of the book is a conversation with his dick.
Tommyland? I've been meaning to read that for years.
Yeah, Tommyland.
Have you read any other rock biographies before?
Just Heroin Diaries and The Dirt.
Oh, and Long Hard Road out of Hell.
More than me.
I've only read Long Hard Road. But I have The Dirt and Dave Navarro's Don't Try This At Home.
I've been wanting to buy Heroin Diaries and Tommyland.
Yeah, The Great Gatsby is very good. It's stood the test of time well. One of those books that you don't notice it was written a while ago.
I'm now reading We Live Inside You by Jeremy Robert Johnson. It's a fairly good collection. As with most short stories, the longer they are, the better they are. And as with most bizarro writing, the less bizarre it is, the better.
Oh, and Legion is crap and unnecessary. I wonder what possessed Blatty to write it. Har har.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I'd read Heroin Diaries before The Dirt. You'll get sick of Nikki Sixx in HD if you read it after, I reckon.
David Lee Roth's Crazy From the Heat was a super-entertaining read, not because of the writing, but just because he's led a very adventurous lifestyle, even outside of music. It's out of print now. And of course Hammer of the Gods and No One Here Gets Out Alive are considered classics; I read those probably a dozen times in college. Neal Peart's nonfic books are pretty good. Speaking of, if you're a Rush fan, sci-fi bestseller Kevin J. Anderson collaborated with Peart on a companion steampunk novel that expands on the concepts from their new album, Clockwork Angels. I haven't read it.
The thing I liked most about The Dirt, aside from, y'know, the dirt, were the alternating POVs and how each chapter would usually refute the one that came before it.

I forgot about Hammer of the Gods and No One Gets Out Alive. I read both of those in high school. I really liked them both. But I have to guess that most of Hammer of the Gods is fiction. There's no way it's all true.
Oh, and I started In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami.
This isn't favourite bookby him.
A Little Larger Than The Entire Universe by Fernando Pessoa.
Started reading Shogun and it's awesome.
This isn't favourite bookby him.
Well he's 50/50 so far with me.
I've read Coin Locker Babies and loved it.
And I've read Transparent Blue and hated it.
Awesome.

I just finished 100 bullets:First Shot, Last Call
When I was 13 I started reading The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and got awfully bored after a little over 100 pages. It was one of the few books I ever abandoned.
Last night I read the first 200 pages and I'm loving it.
Aging is weird like that.
Also - besides starting In the Miso Soup, I've started reading Powers: The Definitive Hardcover Collection by Brian Michael Bendis. I figure I should start reading them since I own the first 4 hardcovers and I've been wanting to buy the 5th. I told myself I can't buy that 5th one until I make some progress reading the first 4.
I'm loving Libra, i'll never be able to write that well.
I loved Dora: A Headcase and now I'm flying through The Thief by Fuminori Nakamura.
The Killer Inside Me by Jim Thompson.
I need to reread this one.
If you enjoy it and havent read Pop 1280 then it's worth checking out.
I like it so far, a third into it.
I'm reading a book about turtles.
I like turtles.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Ludwig and I are both fans of the bookstore in Dublin called Murder Ink. It's the only shop in Ireland that had a variety of Jim Thompson books. The last time I met Ludwig and Barbara in Dublin we met in a cafe across from Murder Ink. Unfortunately it had closed down.

I hate when a gem of a bookstore closes down. There was this cool bookstore called Insomniac that had all sorts of cool books and other off the wall merchandise that closed down. I think they merged with this other store called The Little Olde Bookstore which is now called Half Off Books that has art shows and is where I currently buy most of my books/postcards.
I am currently reading Dove, Broken Piano for President, The Way of the Pilgrim, and Vol. 2 of 100 Bullets.
^5
That was a seriously rainy day in Dublin, and an unforgettable experience to go book shopping with Derek.

The second volume of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Love it.
That ends well.

Death in Venice by Thomas Mann.
I'm about to start Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I've heard nothing but great things about this book.
The Stranger
I'm about to start teaching Fahrenheit 451 in my English II class.
Both those books are so good.
I've been meaning to reread The Stranger for a while now too.
Oh and I started reading High Life by Matthew Stokoe yesterday. I like his style so far.
High Life is good but the other one I read by him called Cows is simply disgusting.
Disgusting good or disgusting bad?
This is why we can't have nice things.

I'm close to finishing Cloud Atlas, and I really enjoyed it.
