Irvine Welsh, where to (start) continue?
Just finished reading "Trainspotting".
Picked it up a long time ago, but didn't wanna read it with the movie fresh in mind.
So, where do I go from here?
"ecstasy"? "glue"? "filth"?
please, enlighten me.
If karma had a gun, I'd have a third eye and a losing conversation with Jesus.
i must read irvine welsh. i see his books everytime i go make a literary purchase and his books just call out to me but i never pick them up.
must mean i need to take a trip to the library.
Sweet, then "Porno" will be my next purchase.
Thanks guys!

Yeah, same here, then eventually I bought trainspotting.
A very, very good and humorous read.
Sure hope his other books are equally awesome!
Most of the times I tend to buy the wrong book, by ignoring the feeling in my gut and over-analyzing the purchase.
My latest disappointment was "The Informers" by Bret Easton Ellis.
It's not even good enough to wipe my ass with.
No wonder I've avoided it for so long.

On Wikipedia it says Welsh is currently writing a prequel to Trainspotting, to be called Skagboys. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skagboys
Wikipedia truly is the bible of our generation.
Gotta love the name.
"Skagboys".

I'll pretend I didn't see this... (Even though by pointing it out I am proving that I did see it).
Or maybe better yet - I'll try not to judge you based off of that quote.

I had such high expectations after reading "Glamorama", "American Psycho" and "The Rules of Attraction" .
It might have been harsh, but being a work of Ellis -
I was not THAT impressed.
He's great and this book was better than most books I've read.
But compared to the other two I've worked my way through, this one just didn't cut it.
Maybe I'm overreacting. I don't know.

View it as all short stories. They aren't really connected. I don't know why it's marketed as a novel. If you take each piece separately - I think it's really good.
Yeah.
Maybe you're right.
It's better to take it for what it is.
I'll let it be for a month or so, and then I'll try again.

I'm not saying Informers was his best - but it is the one I've reread the most.
nup. Less than Zero. nuff said.
Go back read maribou stork nightmares, it has nothing to do with the druggie drunken stuff but it's awesome.
Filth is AWESOME
I met Irvine Welsh two years ago at the Galway Literature festival. I didnt like him. Everyone paid €10 for the reading and it was advertised as a reading and signing. After the reading he sat in a corner surrounded by his friends and grunted when I asked him to sign my book. I didnt really care because Im not a huge fan but there was this youngish girl who was nuts about him and she was a little upset he was such a dick.
I havent read or boughta book by him since.
shit, man. that is really dicky. welshy the cunt.
one of my favorite arrangement of words ever
A swear a sentence, that's what I am for... Fuck.
I agree with Tonya-H, 'Marabou Stork Nightmares' is tits!

Porno is the sequel. It's very good. I actually read Porno before I read Trainspotting.
And if you want to rush right into another Welsh - it's a good place to go with all the characters still fresh in your mind. They are a lot older in Porno though - I think it takes place 10 years later... It might be longer. I don't remember.
