i'm bored
see? that's all i need, anyone else? SAY SOMETHING
yeah he's good. he should write more.
Love love love Jonathan Lethem...but ive only read Gun, With Occasional Music and my favorite, Motherless Brooklyn.
Have you guys read MB?
if so what did you guys think about it?
that's the only lethem book i've read. i've been thinking about reading it again, because i remember it being good. i swear i developed some tics after reading it.
Ive read that book on a total of 11 times and each time ive thoroughly enjoyed it...i find something interesting in it each time..but the ending always leaves me the same, sad for Lionel, and sad for Julia, and poor Frank...its hilarious and sad in the same beat and thats whats so great about it
i don't think i've read any book 11 times. i bow to your superior countenance.
count an ant
cunt on aunt
kumbuya!
hahaha....that was awesome!!
i think my favorite is def. 'Dont know from Zendo, Ken like Zung Fu, Feng Shui master, Fungo bastard, Zen Masturbation, Eat Me!'
Lethem just has this great way of describing things, like when lionel is describing food its also makes you hungry, the way he's fiddling round with his words makes you want to also tic..Lethems amazing at that.
that's it, i'm rereading it next.
I went to a bookstore yesterday to find some 'zines, and i did, but they had Lethem on a table and I thought of the Cult. So there.
I didn't pick up the book though, I was on a mission...
you should really give it a read...its worthwhile
I'll go back...
Motherless Brooklyn should be a first foray into his books
I will take your word and go find it and read it and report back how I felt all about it.
fer serious.
what is MB about?

i had gun, with occasional music in my hand to buy just yesterday, but i didn't (got best non-required reading of 2003 instead). how would you rate in comparison to motherless brooklyn?
Lethem is like a literarily ambitious Phillip K. Dick. Which is a good thing. That Fortress of Solitude is getting rave reviews but I haven't read it yet.
I was here. Then I wasn't. Then I was again.
I wanna read Fortress Of Solitude as well
actually big S you got the explanation down simple and straight, but theres more heart in there than some average detective novel.
and moe. i personally think MB is better, thats my favorite.

Oooooooooooooooooooo.... *becomes overwhelmed with jealousy*
As for Lethem, I've only read Motherless Brooklyn and thoroughly enjoyed his writing, but thought the story needed some work. Not that I didn't think it was a great book, it was, but I just expected something more from a National Book Critics' Award winner. There were some parts that I thought were absolutely brilliant in a sort of cliched detective story way, like the part where the doormen seize Lionel and make an attempt to frighten him. I thought that was amazing. But there were other parts to the story that I thought just didn't match up with this opposing style he was achieving. My minute disappointment in the plot hasn't kept me from buying Fortress of Solitude, which I'll be plowing through the moment I get back to the Deen. I started The Corrections just today, but that may have to wait.
dammit you wait until i leave to reply to this thread, FUCK YOU ALL
but yes MB is good, Gun was pretty good, im reading amnesia moon right now which im loving so far, that is all
