Ideas for the book to read for May
you know battle royale by koushun takami just got translated into english. i'm reading it now and its pretty crazy. its about 600 pages, so it has time to develop each character so that there aren't any throwaways. the movie was more shocking i think, but the book is more compelling and focused.
then again it isn't a book thats going to change your outlook on life or anything, but it does have some interesting perspectives on the psychology of fighting to stay alive, which is what i believe the movie didn't do enough of.
whatever, just a suggestion.
Then again, I might be wrong.
Someone please just tell me when we've picked a book, because I don't have anything interesting to contribute, as all of my tastes in literature are too mainstream to be of any good to you people.
There is hope, but not for us.
For May? I quite sure it's still House of Leaves, unless Zaki changed his mind.
where *is* zaki, anyway? what happened to the april book? where's may and why can't we vote? zaki? zaki?? porquoi est-ce que nous ne lison pas maintenant? nous nous te besoin de demender quelle livre!! por favor!
the april book is the "cult" classic American Psycho, and if i may editorialize for a moment, a huge piece of crap.
i'm reading HOL right now. be proud Mike. although with all the footnotes on footnotes i am getting a little bit confused.
If your confused, just IM me at MnstrPny or waste uk com
Anywho, Mirk: We aren't voting because May is the month of Zaki's birthday, so he got to choose the book, and he chose House of Leaves. He's been wanting to read it for a long time now. Also, HOL is also the book for June, because Zaki thinks it will take awhile for people to read all of it.
uh huh...that sounds like the real reason.
Then again, I might be wrong.

Hey you know what, the month of May has my birthday. I should have the right to pick the book to read. I shall pick House of Leaves. What-do-ya-think? I'll leave a period of 2 months to read it. MAY & JUNE, and all of august to discuss it.
Yes, it does sound like the real reason.

lol Xchuck is getting me confused with she of bionic wit, the Moe.
haha...he doesn't even care, he's just adamant about the damn book. whatever.
Then again, I might be wrong.
I don't care about the what? And I'm only talking about the book because people are asking what May's book is.

And because it's honestly one of the most amazing books/experiences ever.
Yes, yes it is. I am so very, very happy that you are feeling so much glee when you think of HOL.

You are a genius and all Xchuck but sometimes you just have to read a couple of posts back.
"Don't care about that" by Lenny was because you responded to Moe calling her Mirk...and I posted about that.
I wasn't talking about what you posted, but what Plastic posted.
I meant Plastic, not Lenny, sorry.
Ok. I didn't know he was refering to your post.
okay, now you know. Now I know you know. Where do we go from here, buster
Now, we go to Disney Land.
lol
I'be been to Disneyland twice in the past two weeks.
With my book club of course.

or, even better, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. its non-fiction and really fucking good
It was funny, but kind of boring.
a million bucks
Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.
Juvenile fiction, but excellently written.

If you want non-fiction, then read Marilyn Manson's auto-biography. It's FUCKING AWESOME AND FUN AND COOL!
How in earth was A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius boring? Wandering, and Unfocused, and given to tangents, yes. But boring? No.

Not Nick Hornby. Yes, he's a great read, but everyone's read his stuff anyway; what's the fun in that? I understand reading a book twice gives you good understanding of the novel, but that's just pointless.
