Not Nick Hornby. Yes, he's a great read, but everyone's read his stuff anyway; what's the fun in that? I understand reading a book twice gives you good understanding of the novel, but that's just pointless.

you know battle royale by koushun takami just got translated into english. i'm reading it now and its pretty crazy. its about 600 pages, so it has time to develop each character so that there aren't any throwaways. the movie was more shocking i think, but the book is more compelling and focused.

then again it isn't a book thats going to change your outlook on life or anything, but it does have some interesting perspectives on the psychology of fighting to stay alive, which is what i believe the movie didn't do enough of.

whatever, just a suggestion.

Someone please just tell me when we've picked a book, because I don't have anything interesting to contribute, as all of my tastes in literature are too mainstream to be of any good to you people.

For May? I quite sure it's still House of Leaves, unless Zaki changed his mind.

the april book is the "cult" classic American Psycho, and if i may editorialize for a moment, a huge piece of crap.

If your confused, just IM me at MnstrPny or waste uk com

Anywho, Mirk: We aren't voting because May is the month of Zaki's birthday, so he got to choose the book, and he chose House of Leaves. He's been wanting to read it for a long time now. Also, HOL is also the book for June, because Zaki thinks it will take awhile for people to read all of it.

Hey you know what, the month of May has my birthday. I should have the right to pick the book to read. I shall pick House of Leaves. What-do-ya-think? I'll leave a period of 2 months to read it. MAY & JUNE, and all of august to discuss it.
Yes, it does sound like the real reason.

I don't care about the what? And I'm only talking about the book because people are asking what May's book is.

You are a genius and all Xchuck but sometimes you just have to read a couple of posts back.

"Don't care about that" by Lenny was because you responded to Moe calling her Mirk...and I posted about that.

If you want non-fiction, then read Marilyn Manson's auto-biography. It's FUCKING AWESOME AND FUN AND COOL!

How in earth was A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius boring? Wandering, and Unfocused, and given to tangents, yes. But boring? No.
