Happy New Year. What are you reading before the world ends? January Book Thread.
That doesn't make any sense, S.
It seems to be picking up but i'm like 2/3s through it. Sorry, i'm trying.
I finished the first volume in Remembrance of Things Past. Holy shit, it was terrible. Six more to go
EDIT: Terrible to read. I'm not contesting its literary value.
As a Machine and Parts arrived just now. I'll be starting it today.
And, presumably, finishing it today.
This is why we can't have nice things.
This part I do not understand.

It is a good book, I just find it quite hard to read without losing focus or forgetting the first part of the sentence.
Well, I'm playing L.A. Noire these days, and it made me rekindle my old interests from 20 years ago.

oh nice! L.A. Noire is right up your alley huh?
My brother is loving that game. And watching him play it on his PS3 makes me want to get it even more for my xbox.
Should I pick that one up some time?

Remembrance Of Things Past is porn?
This is why we can't have nice things.
I hate recommending games to people because everybody's taste is so different.
Justin hates L.A. Noire. I think I would really like it. My brother loves it.
The shooting on it looks really tough. But it's not a shooter. It's more like Vice City with investigations and interrogations.
I would rent it first.
Finished The Devil All the Time. I really really liked it.
Read The Morbidly Obese Ninja by Carlton Mellick III at work today. It was pretty entertaining. Nothing deep. But fun.
Starting By the Nails of the Warpriest.
Man, I can't wait to read that. But I was thinking. Just today I read This Will All End Well (Warmed and Bound) and I got to thinking, is absolutely everything Nik writes so brutal? That one especially, a sharp kick in the nuts of a story. I'm not sure at this point in my life I can handle more brutality than that.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I don't think I'm ruining anything here, the story starts you out with the knowledge that the main character's wife and child were killed. So, yeah, you might want to hang back from this one for a bit. haha
It's only 40 pages. I'll probably finish it tonight or tomorrow for sure.
I was disturbed by it, but it was a good read.
I'm not reading anything right now. I need to though.
Officially opened and started. When I wake up tomorrow, I'll finish it while eating my cereal. 84 pp!
Doesn't anyone write good long books anymore?
This is why we can't have nice things.
Shit, I forgot that Caleb's book was a book club book. I finished it a while ago soooo I suppose I'll be reading through litreactor thread now.
Faulkner's Sanctuary.
Just started Ender's Game.
"I'm glad I live in the GPS era. In a different century, I would've set off to visit the other side of the village and wandered off into the mountains and been eaten by a carnivorous plant. Or discovered the Americas."
-LaJessica
I loved Ender's Game.
Jess - are you labels over at LitReactor?
Just My Type: A Book About Fonts
Clearing my "Currently Reading" list. 16 concurrent books is too many. And pretentious. It's my aim to have no more than three this year, two physical and one Kindle.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I am!
By the way, I stared at that mark on the acknowledgements for a long time trying to figure it out. Then I decided it was a badly inked stamp. But a robot fingerprint... that's a million times better.
Yeah, his explanation really tied some things together. That's why it's cool when the author is around.
Pretty stoked I identified it as a clamp-print without seeing any spoilage. :smug:
This is why we can't have nice things.
By The Nails of the Warpriest was really good. Recommended. I think I might have liked Old Ghost more though.
Started The Crime Studio by Steve Aylett over the weekend. I'm loving this book already. So many great quotes.
Halfway through The Shimmer by David Morell and I'm enjoying it a lot. It's years since I read a book by him.
Just finished A Select Collection of Valuable and Curious Arts and Interesting Experiments, Which are Well Explained and Warranted Genuine and may be Performed Easily, Safely, and at Little Expense by Rufus Porter, 1826.
Now going to kill-off the rest of Warmed and Bound: A Velvet Anthology before I move on.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Not sure where to put this. (That's what SHE said)

Damn you, Richard.

Got it, not read yet.

Is anyone going to make a February reading thread?
Anyway, I'm reading God Hates Us All by "Hank Moody" which is surprisingly good for a fake book.
I went into that one with super low expectations - I'm just a huge Californication fan. And I ended up really liking it.
Where's Derek!?
I'm waiting for Derek to make one, he's too busy giving lollies to hot blonde receptionists I think.
Weird, I was just going to message Derek.
My next book club book is Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. I'll start it this weekend.

I enjoyed that book.
I enjoyed that book.
It's one of my favorites.
This is why we can't have nice things.
A lot of my book club books have been a bit hit or miss, so I'm very glad to hear that.
You can apparently download it for free online, but I'm not sure I can read a whole novel on my iPhone...
Close! I was in Dublin flirting with Hawt nurses. Unfortunately nit my favourite nurse. I was too sad to log on until today.
Derek - did you delete your facebook? Or did you just block me?

I've been reading this one. It seems like his most tedious work to me, harder to get through. I want to finish it so i can move on to LA Confidential.
