Happy New Year. What are you reading before the world ends? January Book Thread.
I buy good books when I see them in thrift stores for the sole purpose of being able fix the problem the moment a person says they have never read something.
Me too! I buy books at the used book store sometimes just to give them away. And I often do but I also use that as an excuse for my book hoarding. "Um, why do you have 5 copies of The Virgin Suicides?" "Oh, uh, one is for my sister and one is for my friend... and the last three...
are for me. They have different covers...

I love covers.
That's a really good idea. Now I feel uncreative with my book collection.

Most recently I gave my copies of 1984 and The Grapes of Wrath to a friend. I think I am going to tell her to keep them because it gives me an excuse to buy new copies that are in better condition.
I read The Hunger Games yesterday and this morning. It was fantastic. I just started Catching Fire

Gabriel has been trying to get me to read The Hunger Games for over a year now.
Dooooo eeeeet!

Update: Finished Perks. Looked up the cast for the movie. Apparently the director and screenwriter is the author of the book. He also wrote the screenplay for the 'Rent' movie. And was the executive producer on the show Jericho.
The cast isn't half bad either. Two actors from Scott Pilgrim (Young Neil and Roxxy, the lesbian evil ex) are in it. Like I said before Hermione is the love interest. The kid who played Percy Jackson in that movie adptation plays the main character. Also Paul Rudd and Kate Walsh. Also, the kid who played Kevin in "We Need to Talk About Kevin" is in it too. Finally, the guy who plays Ben on American Horror Story is in it.
Suffice to say l am looking forward to after Sundance when everyone gets to see it.
Now onto East of Eden.
Definitely do it!! Amazingly good series. Super quick read, though I could barely put them down for two seconds.

You know you want to.

And Tuffy the Dumptruck as That One Guy Over There.

That's why I'm a book hoarder and don't share. I never get them back..or there's some sort of 'accident'. Unless it's my best friend I grew up with, but everyone else is so irresponsible with books and their poor feelings. I dislike people who rip pages and write in my books with out permission.
Yeah I ended up getting my Joke's Over book jacked too. I haven't let anyone my books since then unless it's my mom or family.

That's the worst, I get considerably upset if I never get to see one of my books again, much less if it's because of people. It's like a death has happened, and it feels like that every time I finish a book for the first time anyway.

I started The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo last night will see if I even make a dent in it.
I've read twenty pages of The Watcher by Charles MacLean and I'm already hooked.
Manhattan Loverboy by Arthur Nersesian. It's a bit meh.
More than half way through.
I must admit that I didn't finish Snuff. I could've done but I got my copy of 1Q84 back and am engrossed in Part II. I may go back to it.
Don't waste your time, Hattie.
Miss Lonelyhearts by Nathaniel West

I just got As a Machine and Parts by Caleb J Ross in the mail. Really looking forward to it.
Oh nice! I hope mine came in today. That means I really have to finish The Marriage Plot within the next couple days.

Good memories.

Circled finally back to the latest Game of Thrones book (I don't even know what it or the series is called), and am about halfway through. It is still better than books three and four were.
We'll see if I finish it in this go without being distracted by something better.

What?? Three is the best one!

Finished Warmed and Bound, in between a million textbooks for my thesis. I had very high expectations, what with all the praise, and I've found it was well worthy of every single word. Congratulations, everybody!
I wish I could "like" that post!
That one is probably my least favourite of his. My favourite is Suicide Cassanova.
I love Nersesians books and yesterday I sent him a message on Facebook asking would he send me a signed postcard since chances are I wont ever get to a sining by him. He said No Problem. I.m delighted with that.
More than half way through.
Finished.
I'm not sure if I want to start the second one since we don't have the third book... I'll probably start The Girl Who Played With Fire tonight.

I hate to sound like Atomos but I despised The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

I didn't despise it but it took me a while to get into it and it was merely to keep me distracted. I can't say it's one of those books that left an impression.

The second book is the best, I reckon.

For some reason I'm looking forward to the second book too.
I suspected that it was written in English, translated into some wacky foreign language, and then translated back into English.
He hits on a word or phrase and then can't shake it for the next book and a half. I want to scream every time I read the words "soldier pines and sentinels". There are other words to describe trees; please use them. And, Christ, now that he's invented cyvasse, it will never end.

That's very cool of him.
Suicide Casanova is probably my favorite too. Chinese Takeout and Unlubricated were both very good too while The Fuck-Up was only okay and The Swing Voter of Staten Island was rubbish.
Nersessian does change things up a lot so it's not unexpected that he'll be a bit of a mixed bag.
Uh, Girl Interrupted.
I'm currently reading the collected works of the Nobel Price-winning poet Tomas Tranströmer. It is simply wonderful. I'm loving every single poem. Swedish is my first language though, so I have no idea how well it translates into other languages.

Started Arabian Nights, I'm at night 10 already. It's quite boring now, because I read the first 4 volumes years ago, but I want to read the whole thing this year, so I gotta start with the beginning.
Also, The Humbling by Philip Roth.
Hi.
*giggles*
*runs away*

Audition by Ryu Murakami.
I finished The Humbling today and I was going to read more Roth, but due to recent slightly possible job opportunities I will start on Proust's million-pager tomorrow morning. Gah!
I'm kinda reading 2 right now.

I actually started A la recherche du temps perdu yesterday. I've read 17% of the first half volume (it's split into 15 Kindle files).
Also on to volume 2 of Arabian Nights.
