Frank Herbert's Dune

I have been a self-proclaimed scholar of Dune for 4 years now, it's my greatest literacy obsession next to Orwell's 1984.

I must say Dune is the great concept and an even greater/glorious attempt of Frank Herbert. It's drama, sci fi, romance (if you consider the Honoured Matres), philosophy, war, dystopian fiction all in one!

Thus, I wonder, anyone here shares this common interest as mine?

I like a band named after the Shai Hulud in Dune.

I loved Dune when I was in high school. I even ripped off part of the story for an english paper that scored me an A.

Learning to cheat is fun.

And this image fits nicely right in this thread.

Dune is one of my favourite books and definitely best SF I read (second is Ender's Game but still need to read a lot form SF books to have some wider perspective). I loved the atmosphere and that it have some many levels on which you can look at it.

I absolutely agree with Mr. Shadov.

It's a highly recommended try for those whose to-read list aren't too terribly long. Because Dune comprises of 6 hefty volumes, not mentioning the ones written by his son and Kevin Anderson. That adds up to over a dozen novels to the whole saga. That is hell load of reading, it gets tiring too.

well honestly I read only first part that was divided into two volumes (ends after this big battle when Paul agree to marry some woman (geeeezzzz I barely remember anything I really need to re-read it one day). anyway I'm not convinced to read sequels. Both Dune and Ender's Game left some impression that I just don't want to destroy with next books.

Dune is a book that you have to read a couple of times, just to take in it's epic scale.
If your gonna ready Dune try the Prelude to dune novels first, as they fill in alot of background history.

Dune sucked and so did the film. I know 'That's not constructive, why bother posting if you're not going to argue your point!'
Well, it sucked, there's no point.

I have played the sega genesis dune game that was great... and listen "to tame a land" by iron maiden that is based on the book..that is the closest I had got to the book. Being a sci fi book Im afraid I will get bored at it.
My brother is a big fan of the book tough...
