February, Valentines day and I am reading...
Just finished Journey to the End of the Night & have started Audition by Ryu Murakami
"What cha readin' fer??"
I just got "crime" the newest irvine welsh book, anybody read this yet?

Still reading Atonement, and just started The Reader by Bernhard Schlink.
That'd suck.
I am going to start read Jurassic Park by Crichton!!! I am very excited, I can't believe I put off reading the books until now.
Don't worry, I haven't read it yet. I've read American Psycho, The Informers, Less Than Zero and The Rules of Attraction, and I'm currently reading Glamorama. Lunar Park is all that's left, right?
I have. Excellent book. Welsh still has it.
I finished the informers a couple days ago. People were telling me to skip it because it was not his best work but i ignored them and I loved it. The charachers were very intresting and I could relate the the whole tired, emotionless thing. The book left me feeling really empty but satisfied.
I am now reading American Psycho (I Have already seen the movie) And so far it is just okay I am about 100 pages in and I like it but since I am only 16 it is hard to get some of the 80's new york city cultrual references. Like different desginers and foods and what people are wearing and all that.
"The Warmth of Blood" 30 min Short Film
I thought crime was another great Welsh book. My fave of his is still Marabou Stork Nightmares though.
As for all the detail in American Psycho, I think that it's not so much about recognising it, as seeing his total obsession to detail and routine and to the general soulessness of the times.
"What cha readin' fer??"
I love this book. Just spouts hate from every page but never stops being entertaining. Kind of like Hunger by Hamsun, i think. Like watching a mind collapse.
I've been proofreading some of the pages from my autobiography "So Many Assholes; So Little Time."
I'm currently reading:
Dissociative Identity Disorder Sourcebook
Next on my list:
Contortionist's Handbook
"I don't want to forget so I'm writing it down"
I've been reading neurophysiology textbooks and it's awesome!!!
Woo! I got the whole of Rememberance of Things Past in the mail today, only a month late. I thought the post office had lost it. I might not have enough time to read the whole thing but still, woo!
!

Yup, I read Hunger a few months ago & because I loved it my friend got me Journey to the End of the Night for my birthday. I'm always more entertained by hate than by love.

Fortunately, I read the book before I saw the movie. The book is one of my favorites, and the movie was a piece of shit.
The beginning of the book is tedious, but necessarily so. That sets up the rest of the book. Bateman's life is so monotonous and shallow, and that's the reason he is the way he is. Without that, he is not a sympathetic character. That is largely why the movie was so horrible, I think. It made him out to be just a run-of-the-mill killer.
Don't worry though...once the book picks up, it stays interesting and you won't want to put it down (except for the chapters where he describes a musical group).
Maribou is an excellent book. Trainspotting and Porno are my favs, but I love Maribou as well.
im reading 1984

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”
-James Baldwin

I read this book mainly on the train to Chicago. I loved it!
Secret History is one of the top 5 best books I've ever read and no one's heard of it... couldn't put it down.
Glamorama by BEE... hated it. didn't finish it
Currently reading Angels and Demons, the DaVinci Code prequel... tasty pop novel that reads fast and is genuinely enjoyable
"I thought I had mono once for an entire year. Turns out I was just really bored."
Wayne Campbell
Yeah true about trainspotting Tom, though I didn't like Porno quite as much. It was still bloody funny. I think I just liked the big reveal in Marabou as I'd come to like the protagonist and it got me.
The Secret History is her first book which I liked, but her second one, Little Friend, was really great I thought - try it if you like the first.
"What cha readin' fer??"
Just finished The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster, moving on to Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami next. After that I think I'll try and tackle 2666 by Roberto Bolaño.
I bought this during the week. Its a whopper, I might save it for journey like Pluto or something. Let me know what you think of it?

Im starting The Collector by John Fowles.
Audition was very enjoyable, nice translation. Am now starting 'We' by Yevgeny Zamyatin.
"What cha readin' fer??"
Just started Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. Also reading Othello by Shakespeare.
I love that book, have you read any of his others?

I love The Collector too. I started reading The Magus but couldn't get on with it.

This is my first by him and although Im only 40 pages in I feel like leaving it for the weekend. Its so good, I keep picturing the main character as Julian Sands in Boxing Helena. He kinda reminds me of my old Austrian neighbour Mr Fritzel.

A neighbour who looked like Julian Sands! Lucky man...
I've also read The Magus. It was years ago and I found it very odd and hard to understand in places but I remember liking it. Except for the annoying ending written in Latin. Not read any more of his though.
"What cha readin' fer??"
The Last Templar By: Raymond Khoury
A co-worker gave it to me otherwise I probably would've never read it.
Think for yourself. Question Authority.
Oscar Ocosta was Benicio Del Toro's character in Fear and Loathing in LV, as well as...shiite, I forget the guy's name, the dude from Taxi Driver, who was Bill Murray's lawyer in Where the Buffalo Roam (good film about Thompson, lesser known).
Eddy, neuro physio-stuff sounds right up your alley.
I finished Our Enemy, The State by Albert Jay Nock last night. It was rather dull, but historically significant. Before finding this thread, started and finished The End of Faith by Sam Harris. It was entertaining but I had major problems with some of his assertions and wrote this huge thing I'm gonna send him about the various inaccuracies in the book.
Downloaded a .pdf of Ayn Rand's 'Anthem' and read it last night (very short). Absolutely loved it. One of the most empowering things I've ever read by far. Slow beginning, but at like 30 pdf pages, the dull part didn't last long.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
Saw this sitting on a bookshelf at a used bookstore. The near pristine quality of the book and the green to pink felt dust cover made me wince but upon reading a bit in store i went ahead and picked this up. I'm twenty pages in so far. Looks good.
Nick Harkaway - The Gone Away World
Totally forgot to mention, I'm reading 'The Machinery of Freedom' by David Friedman right now.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
Carpenter's Gothic by William Gaddis
how is 'rules of attraction' compared to the movie? because i watched that thing like 5 times in one week not long ago and i've never read a BEE book.

am currently reading Please Don't Come Back From The Moon by Dean Bakopoulos,
I just started this book today for one of my classes. What do you think of it so far?
I really reminded me of a short story called Refresh, Refresh by Benjamin Percy. I don't know which one came out first but the resemblance is very striking.
Started 2666 last night, someone on here recommended it, so thanks. It's superb so far.
"What cha readin' fer??"
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas ... just because I bought it in December.
'less than zero' was a good movie too. i was at border's last night and they had a total of ZERO ellis books, which was perplexing. so i bought 'preacher' volume 2 so that's what i'm currently reading.
Filth - Irvin Welsh. LOVEly
)
yes, i'm ironic.
I finished The Collector by John Fowles and I really liked it. I heard his other books are different but Im going to pick one up sometime. Right now Im reading a short story collection by Stephen King called Just After Sunset.
I've been reading Border Crossing by Pat Barker
You should pick up THE MAGUS by Fowles. That book does it all and it's so readable and just plain fantastic.
Im taking a break from Just After Sunset and reading The Last Bachelor by Jay Mc Inerney.
Snuff arrived & I got through it in a couple of hours. I found it funny and pretty gross, but I didn't hate it. Felt like a fun but light book.
Back to 2666 now!
"What cha readin' fer??"
i'm reading this next:

i'm nearly done with 'dermaphoria' and i'm gonna read it again because it's that good and that confusing. also, i finished 'the average american male' in a matter of 2 days, which is a first. i thought it was great and i'm glad i'm not an average american male because that guy was a douche. and i'm reading a book about this ancient polynesian philosophy and it's really bizarre and pretty vital.
