Fear And Loathing In Various Places
I've read Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas and Hell's Angels by Hunter S Thompson.... and they were both great.
I"m now reading The great Shark Hunt
anyone read any of his other books?
thoughts on the man?

His newest book 'Kingdom of Fear' is great. Also if you like politics "Better than Sex" is great and 'Generation of Swine' is good.
"I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms." Albert Einstein
Definitely check out his collections of letters and correspondence. You begin to realize all the drug-addled paranoic delusions of his books really do exist in his mind, at least for short deranged periods. Somehow he still comes across as a very intelligent man. Just a warning though; once you got hooked on the Gonzo you can't stop!
In denial....who will clean up all the ravenous debris?

rum diary is one of my favorite books, ever. reminds me of summer.
The man is my hero. I'm working towards my masters degree in gonzo journalism.
Your life is incomplete until you read Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72. It's history the way it should be.
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.
sonck, remind me to catburgle your bookshelf next time I pop by...

I found a 3rd printing hardcover of this in really good shape today at a used bookstore. I also have "Rum Diary" sitting on my shelf that I have to read. I'm not sure which one I'll read first?
and Bret Ellis, natch. Though I think theres just a big question mark over his sex, nothing certain. anyway.
It means you're an analytical punk, me thinks, nothing wrong with that.
my book shelf is all the freak stuff from the outter reaches of humanity
I guess that says something about me..
Ellis is at the very least Bi, as he's acknowledged having relationships with men.
Never read Rum Diary or any of HST's fiction, for that matter.

That's what I decided. I started Run Diary today. So far it's made me want to head to some beach town and get drunk.

you've got to be fucking kidding me...
I finished the Rum Diary last night and really liked this book. Lots of different characters and lots of drunken craziness. This is only the second HST book I've read but I'm definetly going to check out some more of his books. I also read over at IMDB that it is in the works of becoming a movie. Johnny Depp is playing Kemp and Benicio Del Toro is going to play Sala. I'm looking forward to seeing this.
I know Kemp is based on HST but did he acually work for a newspaper in San Juan in the late 50's? Or is the story mostly fiction?
To my knowlege, it's the truth exaggerated in a way that only H.S. Thompson can.
