Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama
Is it worth reading?
Also, do anyone know if he wrote the thing himself, or did he use a ghost writer?
Thankful for replies.
"Someone must have slandered Josef K., for one morning, without having done anything truly wrong, he was arrested."
"Jemand musste Josef K. verleumdet haben, denn ohne dass er etwas Böses getan hätte, wurde er eines Morgens verhaftet"
The first chapter was surprisingly good. I remember thinking its a shame I don't read more biographies, when i read that first chapter while Christmas shopping. I don't remember if he wrote it himself, but it's probably worth reading if you dig the president.
It's a book by a mainstream politician. If you want that voice in your head for x-hundred pages, go for it.

I'm pretty sure he wrote it.
I bought it for my Dad's birthday a year ago on audio. It's really nice listening to audiobooks when it's the author narrating them.
When my Dad finished it he gave it back to me so I could listen to it. It was great for the long car journeys I used to do between the North and South of England. I remember some of the bits were a little dull but mostly I didn't want to turn my engine off as I was enjoying listening so much. I got a real sense of who Obama is, or was/wants to come across. I have recommended it to a number of people. I think i'll read The Audacity of Hope, when I have some money.
He did write it as well as Audacity of Hope. I didn't read Dreams but Audacity was surprisingly well written. Doesn't read as a manifesto or anything, worth a shot if you're interested.
That said, if you'd rather read Ann Coulter or Glenn Beck don't read it. You'll want to pull your hair out.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
i honestly don't think anyone will ever be happy, no matter who the fuck is elected. it'd be a shit job being a president/prime minister/king/queen. all these people bitching and whinging about everything you do.
I think I'll give it a shot. I just borrowed it from my mother and she said she liked it, so I might as well give it a try sometime in the future.

Exactly, which is why such things shouldn't exist. People don't own other people.

Stop whinging.
thing is; if there wasn't people above other people, ad everyone was equal blah bla blah, there would just be complete chaos. anarchy. because we are humans, and we have evolved into these selfish creatures that just want want want. it would never ever work if we didn't have some kind of order. i'm not big on politics, and i know you, Giggan, are the resident political guru/activist/protester etc, so i'm not even going to bother going head to head with you here, because frankly, this is where my knowledge ends. anything after this ad i'm probaby just kidding myself.
oh, and it's book club.
oh, and it's book club.
Here's my take on what I think you're trying to say:
1. Anarchy is chaos, chaos is bad, thus, you're support of anarchy is support for something bad.
2. My knowledge ends here, and I could be wrong.
I don't know how to respond. Though I can say, if 1 is accurate, I'd say it's inaccurate in that anarchy is not chaos. Proudhon put it 'liberty is the mother, not the daughter of order' or something along those lines. The reasons are numerous and require much enunciation.
The fact that you posted something indicates to me that you care to engage this subject, but possibly recognize the potential futility of internet thread political idea communication. If you wanna have a more advanced discourse in audio/verbal format, PM me and we can chat some time.

no, but seriously. Giggan, you've obviously got strong opinions, and the best part; informed and educated opinions. i, on the other hand, do not. would love to have a further discssion with you, but i'm not sure what on. and if by audio, you mean phone or something, well, i'm in australia, so, sure, if you're paying. all jokes aside. i think i'll just leave it at that. sure, i care, but like i said, i am no where near informed enough to have a worthy opinion. which is why i steer clear of the politics part of the forum. maybe one day i'll be intelligent.
Aaaaawwwww!!
Isn't his dad the one who abandoned him in Singapore or somewheres and then went on to become a Nigerian terrorist or something like that?

Dude, this is the information age. You don't have to pay to communicate anymore.
As for politics, the Gandhi once said, "If I seem to take part in politics, it is only because politics encircles us today like the coil of a snake from which one cannot get out, no matter how much one tries. I wish therefore to wrestle with the snake."

I think he wrote his books. No idea if it's worth reading, but i probably wouldn't read it because don't think he's particularly interesting. But, if you're into that kind of thing, go for it.
