Cormac McCarthy
Does anybody here not like the guy? After reading The Road and seeing No Country for Old Men I have zero interest in bothering reading anything else of his.
Really? You didn't like The Road? I saw No Country For Old Men so I read the book and it was alright. I didn't think it was brilliant, but then I got The Road and loved it sooooo much that I read it twice, back to back. I'm not one who deeply analyzes the things I read--I just like a good story (but I'm not stoopid, so I pick up on symbolism in what I read for the most part , if it's there). So I can't say exactly why I love The Road so much....I just do.

I don't like him.

it had a couple of good parts in it, but everything else was just so bland and uninteresting, (which for a book about the apocalypse seems hard to accomplish but it does.) The movie's coming out this november and it's going to be one of the most boring movies ever I bet. although everyone will be sucking it's dick saying how great it is and deserves 20 Oscars nshit. Ugh!
no country is good blood meridian is his best and i would say that the road is one of the most overrated books in the history of the world. besides religous texts is the most overrated.

Jane doesn't like him. You two should go have lame parties together where you rag on Cormac McCarthy and do various other lame things.
Completely turned me off of bothering to check out any of his other work. There's just too much other stuff out there to check out to give him a second chance right now.
Oh God, thank you. I can't stand any of these books, and yes, I've read them (Blood Meridian, No Country, and The Road, in that order). I found them all exceedingly painful, plodding, and completely fucking overwrought. I disliked them so much it almost makes me angry that I wasted time reading THREE of them.
There is hope, but not for us.

I hope you DIE. A LOT.

I've only read/seen No Country, and I liked the book, really liked the last quarter, but his writing style is so fucking obnoxious that I likely won't read anything else by him. I actually agree with Phil at the beginning of the thread. The "and" strings and the lack of all punctuation was overdone and, I feel, takes the reader out of the story.
Of course, I enjoyed the hell out of the movie. It was like the book without the stuff that pissed me off. 'Course, the Coen brothers usually have my number. They could probably piss on a cracker and I'd watch it.

since what?
I just read Child Of God. My dictionary was used a lot during it, which is a good thing. His descriptions of things seemed fresh and original. It was well written, but having no experience with the following: necrophelia, incest or Sevier County, Tennessee, it was tough to get in to.
Sevier County residents get into Dollywood free. That's a fact and you read it here first... unless you've read it somewhere else.

Femident Toothpaste: For Women With Teeth
i read BLOOD MERIDIAN and i agree with harold bloom
McCarthy is ok, I've only read Blood Meridian and the Road and thought they were good in patches.
The Judge scared me.
But in the end I got a little fed up of endless sentences and had to read them and turn the page and read what was on the page and eat up every weird metaphor and the metaphors were a bit like the old testament and that got a bit much.
Like that. See? I did a satire!
I'd have to say Outer Dark and Suttree are my favorites. Both contain some hauntingly well written passages. 'Thicker' prose than his latest works.
Well, if overdoing it is always writing that way. I feel the exact opposite and like the flow he obtains. Of course everyone processes differently and subjectivity is another interesting aspect of art.
I would have to agree in the sense that I found it be one of those rare examples of a film taking a good book and elevating it into something greater. Burn After Reading on Friday!
I'm looking forward to seeing the film adaptation of The Road in November.
I can't wait for the film version of The Road. The Proposition was probably one of my favorite movies of the last 10 years.
Fantastic movie. I just rewatched it the other night. The blu-ray is a steal at 10 bucks.
Hillcoat should indeed be a good match for The Road.

My favourite teacher named his son after Cormac McCarthy. That fact alone makes me automatically respect him.
