I did a search on the literary "Brat Pack" of the 80's.

Now I know we all know Bret Easton Ellis. His writing is among my favorite and probably worth of my top ten list.

And Jay McInerny. I loved Bright Lights, Big City. I really haven't read anything else by him. Although his new short story book looks really good and I'll probably be picking that one up... soon.

But nobody here talks about Tama Janowitz. I read through her the excerpts of her short story collection Slaves of New York and it looked really good.

I've also seen Mark Lindquist mentioned among the "Brat Pack" yet have never heard of any of his work.

Does anybody have opinions? Thoughts? Suggestions?

I've read that Ellis is of the literary Brat Pack, but what exactly qualifies an auther to fall under that category?

The literary Brat Pack was the authors in the 80's that made it huge with their first books. They were all young and they all partied hard. The became famous together.

The "literary Brat Pack" was a term created by the media to refer to a group of young authors in the 1980s. Labelled the "literary brat pack" in a 1987 article in the Village Voice, Jay McInerney, Bret Easton Ellis and Tama Janowitz were presented as the new face of literature: young, iconoclastic and fresh.

Yeah - The Secret History is highly recommended. So beautifully written and a great story. I read that one on the train to Chicago and while I was in Chicago.

What? No one's mentioned Candace Bushnell? She's totally a New York party girl. In fact I think in the first season of Sex and the City she goes to a bar in New York where other writers hang out, and it's called Lunar Park.

Sorry, Pete, I don't have much to add. I'm not a fan of either Bret Easton Ellis or Jay McInerny

Every time I see this thread, I think Judd Nelson wrote a book.
