What did you think of Prozak Nation? I've been wanting to read that for a long time.
What did you think of Prozak Nation? I've been wanting to read that for a long time.
I thought it was alright, Rather DEPRESSING actually, but what did I expect right? LOL
Another memoir of depression that I enjoyed was ElectroBoy-Andy Behrman
I need a break from all the shooting and stabbing so Im starting Eleanor Rigby by Douglas Coupland. A few years ago I read Hey Nostradamus and went out and bought all his books. I then read Generation X and a few others and for some strange reason I havent read one of his in years.
Guess what guys?
I finished Choke. It kicked ass.
Guess what else?
I'm halfway through Invisible Monsters, and I think I may like it better then Survivor!!!
In fact it may be my new favorite book....
What did you think of Prozak Nation? I've been wanting to read that for a long time.
I, personally, was rather disappointed. I finished it and all, but it didn't live up to my expectations.

Choke is my favourite CP book and Yes I thought Prozac Nation was dissapointing. I have yet to read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
Choke is my favourite CP book and Yes I thought Prozac Nation was dissapointing. I have yet to read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
That's funny because for some reason I always think of these books at the same time. Like "There's Prozac Nation and Bell Jar." Even though one is fiction and one isn't - it's weird.
An awesome book that was on a similar "fucked in the head" sort of way is Sybil. I flew through that book. It was so messed up yet I couldn't put it down. Her parents really messed her up.
So, I'm still reading Middlemarch. Man is it dull. It's not even a pleasant, lull-you-to-sleep kind of dull, this book is assaulting me with its boringness. Don't misjudge me, I can take long books and I even like it when books are a little slow but sheesh on a leash. Maybe it'll get better, but can I afford to waste my life on finishing this book?
I reached page 200 of Stephen King's Cell. My feelings are somewhat mixed right now. The first chapter was outstanding, but it's been all downhill from there.

not his best, but still worth it i think
prozac i liked a lot, but i think you either get into her voice and attitude or you don't
coupland is all good, with a couple of exceptionals
kabol - a lot of his earlier work is very strong, i'd say his last three have been just ok - my favs are The Stand, IT, Dead Zone, Pet Sem, and the Gunslinger series, I really think you'd love that, but once you start, it's 7 books, so watch out - i have an extensive SK library, so I'd be glad to send you some books, paperback or hc - you're a PB guy aren't you?

hey, wickerman..
yeah. im a paperback man, myself. i fucking mangle my books. not intentionally, it's the hands. they tend to grip, fold, bend. it's almost as if the emotional impact of the story is experienced partially through the skin. the book is never set down, always held up. with hard covers, i tend to just drop them a lot, always losing place, getting kicked across the floor because im pissed the fuck off..
as for king, i still have a few i havent read
(cant belive i forgot to mention pet sem as a fav)
i started the gunslinger series by buying and reading the first (hc new edition with the revised and added 10k words) based on the jib of a friends constant poking--he was geek for it the way i geek over transformers and erickson's prose. i couldnt get into it, but that series has a crazy following
never read dead zone
-actually, ive not ever heard of it for some reason
nor it
-though, one of my woman's all time favs
thank you but no, brother. i dont have the time to get through the books of the current immediate stack. i still havent finished junot diaz's new one and got that arc almost two months ago so i could read it right away before it came out
i do appreciate the offer though
kabol

Just finished The Gunslinger and I'm definitely going to get around to the second book at some stage. At the moment I'm reading J.G. Ballard's Kingdom Come. I've got twenty one more books to finish on my shelf after that, the aim really is to read faster than I can buy.
Now I`m reading " Books in my life" by Miller, " The Pyramid " by Golding,
"1984" on english, Marquis de Sade - " Justine" and "Dairy" by Chuck
...the aim really is to read faster than I can buy.
I've come to think that this is impossible. I think I have well over a hundred before I can catch up...

Alex, I have at least 3 copies of each of the first few Gunslinger books so instead of buying them PM me your Addy and they are yours. You can but me coffee when you get your ass to Trinity.
I could just start saving up. The aim is to get to a point where I have no books to read and as such can buy as I read. I think I'll do that actually. But then I know I'm going to start spending money. Argh. I'll just buy slowly and read quick!

Sure, that'd be awesome Derek!
And as I'm in a typing mood; I went to that Wolski's place today and it was closed. Didn't open for twenty minutes and it was pissing rain so I trodged elsewhere. I dropped a parcel off for PocketFives, a book that was a whore to find, but sort of fun to do. I met my mother after not going into that place to ask for a job and was heading to KFC to buy my little brother food as he's no time to stick around for dinner as he has to be somewhere, then it turns out she isn't cooking dinner, but I wasn't in the mood for KFC, so I'm now eating soup and contemplating a cup of coffee. I'm gonna get stuck into Kingdom Come now, and then do a bit of homework and come back here before going to sleep.
oh yeah, I finished The Mist. It was alright but i got a sneaking suspicion it's going to be one of those that the movie is a whole lot better than the book.

Have you read his On Writing or Time of the Assassins?

If you thought Justine was a tough read check out 120 Days of Sodom its dark its sick but blackly comic, great satire of the times very angry novel. The end of the book is just a draft because the prison he was held was stormed when he was writing it on a roll of wall paper. De Sade belived it was lost for ever but it was found and republised in the 1930's it was banned in England till the 1980's the book was written in 1700's.
stephen king's "on writing" is a great book, i really liked it a lot
As has Stephen King's "On Writing" - speaking of which, I've taken to oddly reading essays from Henry Miller's "On Writing" and they're hilarious and brilliant. I'd also advise anyone out there to get this book.
Beach is on my list
Anansi Boys was great, not as good as American Gods, but almost.

No! But I didn't finish it so I'm biased.
I'm reading Cold Mountain by Charlies Frazier, now that's more of a pleasant lull-you-to-sleep read.
Yeah, I ditched Middlemarch for What Maisie Knew, by Henry James. Much more my kind of thing.
What Maisie Knew, by Henry James. Much more my kind of thing.
I've been meaning to read Turn of the Screw for years and years. I've even started it and liked what I was reading - but for some reason I always have to switch or something pulls me away from it.
Ive finished Elanor Rigby and next up for me is Veronika Decides to Die by Paulo Coelho.

If You Liked School, You'll Love Work by Irvine Welsh.
The Beach is a fantastic novel. I loved it.
Me too...one of my favorite books. It really is quite amazing.
Just finished Stephen King's Cell and I'm about to start Jeff Lindsay's Darkly Dreaming Dexter.
If You Liked School, You'll Love Work by Irvine Welsh.
I bought that a few months ago. Let us know what you think of it. The stories all sounded so good I had to run out and buy it even though I planned on getting more of his earlier work first.
On other news - how come only 13 people have voted for the Book Club Book? Come on people!
i haven't decided.

Will do. I tend not to read short stories, because they just don't interest me...but I love Irvine Welsh, and I've been going through a bit of withdrawal, so I picked it up. I'm in the middle of the first story, "Rattlesnakes," right now, and I'm really enjoying it. I'll keep you posted.

Turn of the Screw is barely a pamphlet! Get your finger out.
Yeah, I ditched Middlemarch for What Maisie Knew, by Henry James. Much more my kind of thing.
Is that good? I might try and get it from Read It, Swap It.
Is that good? I might try and get it from Read It, Swap It.
I don't know whether you'd like it or not, but I'm enjoying it so far. It's not so good that I'd make a special efort to read it, though. Do you like Henry James? If you don't I wouldn't bother with it.
Did you ever get around to reading any of the Sookie Stackhouse novels? What did you think?
Turn of the Screw is barely a pamphlet! Get your finger out.
I know! That's the sad part.
Kingdom Come is slowly killing me so I've started reading The Hippopotamus by Stephen Fry which is hilarious so far.
Did you ever get around to reading any of the Sookie Stackhouse novels? What did you think?
I read the first one and thought it was okay. You were right about the sex scenes, they certainly were awkward!

i'm reading a really long frickin book titled Flicker, and its not about a horse.
oh and i got it at the library sale for a buck, unread, and it's great.
