The mystic arts of erasing all signs of death by Charlie Huston. just started so dont have a opinion yet

I finished the Gates. I liked it but I still prefer The Book Of Lost Things by a mile.
Just started Under The Dome by Stephen King and Im liking it so far which is strange considering I hated all his latest stuff.
Reading Invisible by Paul Auster (really excited to be reading this book.)Can always count on him.
Also, ready to begin Generation A by Douglas Coupland afterwards.
Oh man I really want to read that, they were talking about it on TV the other day and it sounds incredible. Might have to wait until it's out in paperback though.

this sounds so good. and hopefully, in the vein of gen x, it will be so good.
i'm still reading penny dreadful, slowly. i don't know if it's the book that is proving hard to get through or maybe i'm just not in a reading mood everytime i pick it up. i seem to just get tired. i have heard a few people say it is the worst of the triology but necessary to get to the end. anyone experinced in this able to give insight?
I've been getting really lucky lately with putting new arrivals on hold at the library.
I think I'm going to read the Golden Compass. I bought that when I was in my first year of college, but never read it.
yeah, i'm actually about a bit of half through it now, i'd say i'll finish it today. but it was a bit slow to getting into it. i guess he wanted it to be able to stand alone, as well as part of the trilogy, maybe. the other thing i'm finding weird is the structure. how it goes from third person about a specific person then to first-person poe. it's fucked up. why'd he do that? that threw my right off.
Fight Club
Never read it before.
I should really read that. I've heard it's better than the movie.
what!? you've both NEVER read Fight Club. that's astonishing. it is such a quick, easy, read. the ending is much much better than the movie. although the movie ending is great. yeah, the books alot better. i might read it again, now that it's been brought up.
I've begun to read this, and I must say, perhaps its just the mood I'm in thats amplifying it, but the beginning of this book hardly seems like it would be considered a children's book. It strikes me as darkish.
It's because I'd already seen the movie before I started reading a lot. So I avoided it and read other Palahniuk books instead. I put off reading American Psycho for the same reason.

Strangely enough, that is my exact reason as well.
yeah, it makes sense. and generally, i'd be against it but the movie was fucking good, unlike a lot of novel to movie adaptions.
you should read it though.

Also currently reading The Golden Compass, I think the main things that make it a "children's book", is that the protagonist is a child and it's pretty fantasy driven, like Harry Potter.
I'm liking it...I'm going on a business trip and I don't want to take it along because I have the Omnibus edition and don't have room
Think for yourself. Question Authority.
Fight Club was better than the movie. Would probably have been better still if I hadn't already seen it though.
Now reading The 25th Hour by David Benioff. No I haven't already seen the movie.
oh fuck. the movie is amazing. i've read the book, and yeah, it was cool. but i'm not heaps into third-person sooo... i read it after seeing the movie, hopeing it would be first-person. blah. anyway.
Eating the Dinosaur- by Chuck Klosterman
Are you talking about Fight Club?
It is written in first person point of view.
25th hour, man. It's in third.
Oh sorry - I haven't read 25th Hour.
I misunderstood.
Turbelence by Chico Buarque.
im reading heavier than heaven by charles r cross - the kurt cobain biography.
than im going to read richard brautigans trout fishing in america again because he's incredible.
check out my writing and shit at http://www.josephhayes.co.uk
add me, follow me, comment me, hate me etc.
Just picked up The Collected Stories of Amy Hempel. I bought it for myself, but now I'm considering giving it as a gift.
"A celibate clergy is an especially good idea, because it tends to suppress any hereditary propensity toward fanaticism." -Carl Sagan
"Am I cruel? Probably. Is she an idiot? Yes." -jane s.
Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain.
I misunderstood.
don't feel bad... I thought he was talking about Fight Club too
"I thought I had mono once for an entire year. Turns out I was just really bored."
Wayne Campbell
I misunderstood.

I must've been fucking retarded then. Because i honestly still think, if you read the previous post, it sounds like I'm talking about fight club.
Anyway.
Finished Penny Dreadful. yeah. I loved it. So what!? Ha!
About half way through Hell's Half Acre now. Fucking love Jude sooooo much.I think that's what was lacking for both me and Phineas in Penny.
Low Boy by John Wray.
I'm currently working my way through Cobralingus, by Jeff Noon.
why?
why?
i can understand you wanting to give it away once you've read it, the whole i-need-to-pass-this-shit-on thing, but other than that, exactly, why?
at least read a few of the short-shorts. and for fuck's sake, read The Harvest, obviously.
i just recently palmed a copy of this off to my mum. but i still have a roughed up paperback and each collection in hardcover here anyway. ha. she's loving it though.
Im sooooooo looking forward to reading Charactered Pieces by Caleb J (I still owe him Cujo underpants) Ross.
It's because I'd already seen the movie before I started reading a lot. So I avoided it and read other Palahniuk books instead. I put off reading American Psycho for the same reason.
American Psycho is my favourite book of all time. Whilst the movie is good, the novel is amazing. They just don't compare!
On another note, I am re-reading The Rules of Attraction.
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember... that is the illusion.
i am just about to begin The Rules of Atttraction. after i finish Hell's Half Acre, which will probably be tonight. i only have a bout 50 pages to go.
looking forward to it.
The Book Thief by Mark Zusak, at the recommendation of Taylor. I wanted to read The Subtle Knife, but the library near my house sucks major ass, and I don't want to buy anymore books for now. Unfortunately, it looks like I'm gonna have to.
are those like regular human underpants with a picture of Cujo on them or a pair of Cujo's own personal kitty-sized underpants?

I bought American Psycho a couple weeks ago. I don't know when I'll get around to reading, but I am excited about it.

They are regular human sized underpants with Cujos pic on one cheek and Barca Boy on the other. My Mum made 20 pairs for the NYC meet up two years ago but I needed 21.
American Psycho is okay but i don't get how anyone that wasn't around in the 80's can get into it. Like when he goes off for a whole chapter telling about the importance of Huey Lewis and the News and whatnot.
i guess all the sex and killing bridges the gap.
I just finished Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, do not recommend it to anyone, unless maybe their high. It's about as interesting as a dream, oh wait, the whole book is a dream.
Bought The Road by Cormac McCarthy and Under the Dome by Stephen King, but probably wont get to them for a while.
Still reading The Golden Compass and also started Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers

Yeah, the book is heaps better than the movie which was still very good. There's all sorts of stuff in the book they wouldn't be able to put in a movie. And seeing it first in no way spoiled the book for me.
Now reading The Contortionist's Handbook by Craig Clevenger. About halfway through. I had trouble getting a copy of this and have already read Dermaphoria which I still say is the best book I've read this year.
White Belts by DeLeon DeMicoli. I love this guys books.
I read this pretty recently. People had been bigging it up to me for months and I was expecting to fall in love with it. I did not. I liked it but there was no suspense! I like a bit of suspense, I guess. Also the characters grated on my nerves.
i'm still reading 'blood's a rover' by james ellroy. it's a crazy book, much different than 'american tabloid' and 'the cold six thousand', it's more of a mystery. i love all the voodoo shit in it too, definitely an interesting read.
It'll take me like two years to eventually read Blood's a Rover.

it doesn't really tie into the other 2 books, it pretty much stands alone. j edgar hoover and howard hughes and the mafia guys are mostly in the background and there's a few new characters so you could read it separately and not get any more confused than you would normally by his books. it's different.

mmm hmmm. what he said.
