Oh, this is tough. I read so many good books in 08. I read two trilogies that I'll have to only count as two books, because I'd have to put them both up there...

The Phineas Poe Trilogy by Will Christopher Baer

...the rest of these are in no particular order, but round out my top five:

The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy
The Fuck-up by Arthur Nersesian*
What is the What by Dave Eggers
Sex, Drugs & Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman

In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan This is a book I just think everyone should read. It's impossible not to be changed and really think about how we treat our bodies and the earth
I'm on to you - You got this one from my list! I still haven't read it yet though...

Yes, I did!! I can't believe you haven't read it yet!

Got your message and replied.

I'm going to have to read that one next. After I finally finish Knockemstiff. I'll be done with it tonight for sure. I'm looking forward to reading it. Wink

So I finished "In Defense of Food." I really enjoyed it. I've read a lot of that information before - but he packaged it all together in one book and presented it better than I've read before.

I loved the topics about breaking something down and then having to re-add all the nutrients back into it. It's like - why did you change it in the first place?

I think it is a very important book and more people should definitely be reading it.

I was familiar with a lot of it as well, but like you said, he put's it all together in one book that is written in a very accessible way. There's a lot of important information that's plainly and thoroughly explained. It is an important book. I'm doing my best to get people reading it. So, thanks again.

I'm not sure if I read this last year or the year before, but I really liked The Post Birthday World by Lionel Shriver. I recommend anything by her (Mirka, have you read We Need to Talk About Kevin? If not, you must!)

I love A M Homes too, last year I read In a Country of Mothers and thought it was great (I've read her more recent work too). I'm in agreement about The Secret History by Donna Tartt also, but hated The Little Friend (I found it mega boring).

I was about to buy The Book Thief after all the recommendations, but then realised I already have it on my shelf but haven't read it yet.

I read ALL of chucks books this year so basiclly all of them except for haunted and diary I didn't love.

The Road by Cormac Mcarthy

Company by Max Perry

The Cortionorists(sp?) Handbook by Craig Clevenger

The informers by Bret Easton Ellis

Watchmen by Allen Moore

A Seperate Peace by John Knowles

I think that't it I might have read one or two more but I can't remember.
