August, Summers nearly over and I'm reading...
The Long Trial Of Nolan Dugatti - Stephen Graham Jones
Ive started The Last of the Savages by Jay Mc Inerney.
I read that about two years back. It was decent, but i'm interested to hear what you have to say about it.
started blindness by saramago. so far, the block paragraphs, nonseparation of dialogue, and lack of question marks is driving me nuts but the story is interesting.
this is a great book. i get it now. since he can't really engross the reader on how it is to be blind, he succeeds in making the reader feel as disoriented as the characters. the story is compelling and is brutally honest about human nature.
i'm reading watchmen next.
I just finished Invisible Monsters, very decent, very quick read.
Im starting Click by Young tonight.
Syrup by Max Barry.

Im just after finishing it and didnt enjoy it at all. Probably the weakest of his books in my opinion. I didnt really give a shit about either of the two main charaters.
I think I will read Michael Moores' Guide to the Election next.
Finished Michael Moores Guide to the Election, it was good, think I'm pro Obama after reading that, pity I don't have a vote that counts.
Next up is Blasphemy by Douglas Preston.
Next up is Blasphemy by Douglas Preston.
That is so sad to hear, Derek. I mean, if you have actual reasons to be pro-Obama, far be it from me to judge. But please don't let Michael Moore influence your political beliefs, and for the love of God, don't get your info on American politics from him. It's like talking to the devil to try to learn about God. The stuff he puts out is 100% propaganda. He manipulates quotes and facts into fiction, leaving out context, other relevant facts, etc.

i'll get behind this. michael moore is a worthless sack of shit. hate everything about him.
I'm reading Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer.
I just finished reading that a couple of days ago, and I've got a lingering sensation of dissatisfaction, however mild. How did you like it?

ive just realized that leaving out pronouns or subjects of sentences can make something confusing. like here, you dont have to hate everything about him. i hate everything about him. well, hates a bit harsh, really. but he is worthless.
I didn't think anyone paid attention to him anymore.
same. did that medcair movie even do well?

Whoa, well it was...one way to end the series. I've been giggling about ridiculous things that happened since I finished it (I'll PM you to avoid posting spoilers)! It was still entertaining and fun to read though.
I'm reading A Working Stiff's Manifesto: A memoir of thirty jobs I quit, nine that fired me and three I can't remember. By Iain Levison.
It's really funny, I doubt I'd have heard of it if it wasn't for The Losers Club author Richard Perez. Everyone read The Losers' Club by Richard Perez, it's grrreat!
Next up is Blasphemy by Douglas Preston.

He's better than Ann "The Cunt" Coulter and Bill "O'rly" O'Reilly
Think for yourself. Question Authority.

currently reading watchmen, to be followed by christopher moore's you suck.
i'm giving him a chance in case he turns out like terry pratchett in terms of humor.
I just finished Schindler's List and I am Legend. Next up I'm going to finish Nocturnes and then is Jones' Demon Theory.

The Watchmen was great. But if you are reading a Moore book, don't start with You Suck. He is one of my favorites, but that one is not his greatest. Also, it is a sequal, so it would be a little silly to start there.
I recommend Lamb, A Dirty Job, or Island of the Sequined Love Nun.
"I'm glad I live in the GPS era. In a different century, I would've set off to visit the other side of the village and wandered off into the mountains and been eaten by a carnivorous plant. Or discovered the Americas."

ah, thanks. i saw lamb, read a few pages and thought it was funny. it wasn't available yesterday at the library though but i'll check it out.
seriously though, don't start with you suck! If you don't like it and it turns you off of moore, I'll never forgive you for reading that one first.

read it! very good stuff there. a lot of fun, too.
Im off to bed with the flu (Sympathy fuckers) and Thumbsucker by Walter Kirn.
i remember reading thumbsucker and not finding anything really remarkable about it although it made me want to watch the movie, which i've yet to do.
i've never read the flu
but get well.
if you like that flu bok, go get this one. it's pretty incredible.

about halfway through RAGE. thanks to derek. hope you feel better.
also reading THE TRICKSTER which is an anthropology book about the trickster myth of native americans.
too, lost planets book on ireland to see what these people are up to.
and, finally, a book about dali that derek also gave me.
never read this many books at once but it seems to be working for me.
I read Breaking Dawn (Dei Ex Machina Ad Infinitum might've been a better title) earlier this month in order to review it for a YA/teen book club. Even within the context of teen/chicklit or YA escapist fantasy, the book is a shit sandwich.
I'm currently reading and loving DeLillo's Running Dog.
Femident Toothpaste: For Women With Teeth
had read fear and loathin in vegas, got it on a used store, it was lying among very crappy books, anyway, one of the best things I had read.
Hi tanus, nice avatarr
All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy
This, Nathaniel, is going into my novel.

"I could have done worse!" exultantly cried the murderer Lebret, sentenced at Rouen to hard labor for life. — Félix Fénéon
it's true! and the truth shall set you free!
finished RAGE. a quick read with some goodness in there. turning onto THE SHINING and continuing on with the other books which im reading at a much slower pace as my homes always been prose though i find the mythology of THE TRICKSTER to be just great and hilarious. but, yeah, more king and then some more and then some more because, well, i guess because hes stephen king and i know not a thing about him.
if you're on a king trip, include Misery in there. none of that supernatural stuff and more psychological terror.
finished watchmen, fantastic graphic novel. for safety reasons, i'm holding off on christopher moore's you suck and starting hey nostradamus by douglas coupland.
When you get yourself to Dublin I will bring you along some more King books. Happy reading Eddy.
I hated the first book in the series, I really did.
Im reading Sex Drugs and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman.
I loved this book. It's my favorite of the three Klosterman books I've read, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed.
at half price books tonight, I got a first edition hardback of All the beautiful Sinners by stephen graham jones for 5 bucks. Also got an Orson Welles biogrpahy that looks awesome as hell.
Only one more day of August!
I'm currently reading The Sound and the Fury by WIlliam Faulkner. It's interesting but it's definitely a tough read.
I love Faulkner. If you like that, I recommend Absalom, Absalom! and The Unvanquished (which is a much easier read).

I've always thought we should be using last years monthly what are you reading threads instead of making new ones each year.
I've been reading alot of books this month...
Mickey and the Beanstalk
The Big Blue Egg
Little Red Riding Hood
Goodnight Moon
Etc...
Think for yourself. Question Authority.
Its very tough, but it pays off in the end. That is one of my favorite books ever. Probably my favorite of Faulkner's

I'm reading Invisible Monsters. Then I'm goint to read Cayote Blue. I hope Moore is good....
Moore is great. Coyote Blue is his worst book by far.

How did I end up in the year old thread? I was really confused by the post I apparently made yesterday, but didn't. wow.
