August Book Club
So I think in September we will discuss Click by Kristopher Young. He has agreed to help out with a discussion here. So that one should be great. I've already been hearing good things about his book around here. I'll be looking forward to September!
But - we need to come up with a book for August.
Anybody have any August suggestions?
corellion PM'ed me with these ideas.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Tours of the Black Clock, Steve Erickson.
Pop. 1280, Jim Thompson
Has "a clockwork orange" been discused yet?

I don't think so.

Hopefully it never will be.
You Shall Know Our Velocity! by Dave Eggers
...read it a while ago, but I think it'd make for a good discussion.
I was thinking of letting this thread go until the end of the week. And then I'd post a poll like on Friday.
Hopefully it never will be.
lol.
Yeah I don't know if I even want to try getting through that book.

have we done any Ellis besides American Psycho? i would really like to discuss either Less Than Zero or the Rules of Attraction.

No - I don't think so.
Wait - we might have done Lunar Park? I don't remember.
But it would be nice to get some Ellis in there.
Im all for Bret Easton Ellis.
So am I...just finished American Psycho, so I'd be more than happy to read another one by Ellis.
There seems to be some level of agreement on B.E.E. Maybe we could do a poll and choose between a selection of his books?
Good Idea. I think by Choosing something like Lunar Park it would emcompass his other works especially American Psycho.
The Informers.
You guys this is a cool idea - but I want to make everybody happy. So I guess I'm not sure if having a selection of only Bret Easton Ellis books is a good idea... I could be wrong though - so I guess just keep discussion it and see what everybody says.

We've done Lunar Park before. Great book by the way.
The Informers.
If I was going to choose just one - I'd probably pick The Informers just because it has a little bit of everything. It's the perfect BEE intro book.

Dang I missed that one. I loved Lunar park. Its been so longsince I read the Informers it would be like reading a whole new book. I will just have to wait and see what ye choose and then I will go along with that.
pete, can you see if the sub-forums can be merged into the general book club forum?
Hopefully it never will be.
what`s wrong with "A clockwork orange"?
what`s wrong with "A clockwork orange"?
agreed, it's one of my favorite books, and one of the best film adaptations I've ever seen.
i would enjoy discussing a ellis book...i've read all of them but he is my favorite author so it would be interesting...
besides that i just picked up Motorman by David Ohle... i haven't started it yet and i really have no idea what its about but i heard it was pretty crazy

I don't have control over any of that...
I'll PM Mirka.
Either that or see about access being opened on it or something.
what`s wrong with "A clockwork orange"?
What's not wrong with it? From the alienating and frankly useless invented words to the whole idea of an alternate reality which completely isn't needed. It could have been a brilliant book, but it wasn't one.
If I was going to choose just one - I'd probably pick The Informers just because it has a little bit of everything. It's the perfect BEE intro book.
Definately, but not only that, but those stories right there are exactly my personal bar-standard for a short story. I've only ever written two I think are my personal equivalents of the stories in that book, they're the sort of stories I'd not show to anyone incase people think they're bad. Though I'm trying to write a third for this little trainstation anthology. It's a great book, and everyone should read it.
I'll third the You Shall Know Our Velocity! suggestion. I'm willing to read it one more time.
hey, I just joined this site. Am I qualified to take part in the book club?
If yes my suggestion is Less Than Zero, but looking around this site I feel that everyone is into quality stuff (not the Dean Koontz, James Patterson week, mindless bullshit) so I'm pretty sure that what ever is decided will be worth it.
I almost started a thread about how much James Patterson sucks, but than I decided that he is not worth the time.
You're bitter. I like that.
PS - I support Less Than Zero.
Im all for Bret Easton Ellis.
I'm all for begging for Ellis.
I've taken the suggestions and made a poll. It's a sticky at the top of the page.
