April Fools Book Thread
Its April already, what is everyone reading?
I just started Six Bad Things by Charlie Huston and then next up is the final book in the Ring Trilogy, Loop by Koji Suzuki.
(No typos this time)
Just started Raw Shark texts the other day. Good, weird good so far.
I'm onto As I lay Dying right now.. and also Another Roadside Attraction, tom robbins. And I've just ordered a book by Jeff Vandermeer called Veniss Underground..
Just ended M.Amis "Dead babies", what comes next, who knows
As I Lay Dying its the name of band...I think there name is based on that book...
Just finished Breakfast of Champions, now I'm onto Kafka's The Trial
I'm 2/3 into Remainder
savouring it a bit cuz I'll be sending it off as soon as I've finished.
Next in line is what promises to be a fun and laugh-out-loud read, Hello Lesbian!
So is Remainder as good as everyone's been saying? I'm thinking of picking that book up next.
Right now I'm sort of reading a wodehouse book, money for nothing.

Its definetly worth reading, bright future ahead for Tom Mc Carthy.
As I Lay Dying? Geh-ross. I hated that book.
I read the Sound and the Fury before, and didn't really get much of it. I'm kind of holding out for As I lay Dying redeeming him for me, or something.
get his Time's Arrow
Agreed.
thanks for sharing.blackhawk tactical pants.
Just finished Breakfast of Champions, now I'm onto Kafka's The Trial
2 very good books....I am currently reading Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow by David Gemmel.
About a week ago I finished my ARC of Rant and are you guys in for a treat!! :sgrin:
Do not speak- unless it improves on silence.

I've heard very good things about the Snopes Trilogy. Chix is always talking about it.
Thanks goutis; I might just pick that up instead.. I'm not getting very far- and I think most of it's due to lack of concentration. His sentences usually start in one place and end up in another, and I lose focus in the middle

Another thing that helped me when I read Sound and The Fury was the Cliff Notes that I found online. I'd read a chapter and then read the cliff notes. That was a tough book for me!
Im reading Invisible Monsters now, I just started to read Chuck a few months ago...I buyed Choke and Lullaby today!
just finished A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. now im halfway done with Remainder. next is The Raw Shark Texts.

is that for real?
I'm reading, well trying to start reading, Mirror Mirror.

Im about 140 pages into Loop By Koji Suzuki, as I said earlier its the final part of the Ring trilogy but it can also be read on its own. Never mind the crap movies they made and check it out if you like that kind of thing. Its fantastic so far, heading to being the best of the 3.
is that for real?
In his defense, English is probably not his first language.
He's from Portugal.
Tnks. Yeh english its not my first language, sry about the mistakes
jeez Lehahi, put two and two together...
has anyone else completely finished Only Revolutions?
I've almost finished reading The Brothers Karamazov. I'm a hero!

I've read the other two and loved them, but I was holding up on this one for some reason.
So you say it might just be the best one so far? Let me know what you think when you finish it.

No problem, If you liked the other two then you should definitely read this one, its different but very enjoyable, I will let you know what its like soon without spoiling it for you.
I've read Ring and Spiral but held off on reading Loop because "it's shit" says my boyfriend. He loves Koji Suzuki and was so disappointed. A shame because Spiral was a rollercoaster ride of awesomeness.
jeez Lehahi, put two and two together...
haha, I didn't even look at where he was from.
Sorry JM!

Vendetta, I you or your boyfriend have any recomenations for Japanese Fiction can you send me some sometime, Ive read all the usual suspects and its damn near impossible to find anymore in Irish bookshops.
I'm Portuguese too!
I'm neither Vendetta or her boyfriend - but I have two that I want to throw out there.
I don't know if you've read these as they're pretty popular - but if you haven't, you should check out (I'll link them for you):

I really liked this one. It's about a bunch of factory worker girls that work together to kill one of their husbands. It's very Crime and Punishment where everybody is overthinking everything.

It's about this guy who meets these people that are exactly like his late parents. This one was very good.
I don't know if they are Japanese or not. I think the first one is Korean. Either way - They're asian.

Have you checked out Vertical? There might be a few there that you haven't checked out yet (Kenzo Kitakata, Kaori Ekuni) but this isn't really my area of expertise.
Vendetta and PGoutis, thanks to both of you, Im off to the cuty to see what ones I can order at the friendly bookshop. Thanks Guys.
I'm reading Easy Rider, Raging Bull. I started it ages ago. October, I think. It's hard to read, the type is very small.
I finally finished it. Now I can get on with my life, sheesh!
Vendetta and PGoutis, thanks to both of you, Im off to the cuty to see what ones I can order at the friendly bookshop. Thanks Guys.
Hey - No Problem!

Ive finished it, I loved the first 150 pages then it fizzled out, the ending was a let down but since youve read the other two it may be worth a try. I just think the whole Sadako could have been much better, the first two books were amazing.
Im halfway through Sign Of The Cross by Chris Kuzneski, its a thrashy thriller about some random people being crucified around the world, I thought it was appropriate to read on Good Friday. So far its not too bad except for the cheesy humour.
just finished Portnoy's Complaint...now reading Five Mile House (Karen Novak) and a book of short stories collected from Cemetery Dance magazine.
just finished Portnoy's Complaint...now reading Five Mile House (Karen Novak) and a book of short stories collected from Cemetery Dance magazine.
Hey i read that (five mile house), jane sent it to me, you know she used to hang here as luddy dunn.
anyone read the raw shark texts, i just started it, pretty good so far...that should be added to the poll for next months book club
I read it last month and really enjoyed it, Its great to get hold of a book before all the hype, Im sure its going to be a hit especially around the Cult.
Its about time Ive learned a bit more about my fellow Europeans so tonight Im going to start The Xenophobes Guide To The French, Watchout JH and Franc.

I read the other two and his short story book in a matter of a couple weeks or something.
Hey i read that (five mile house), jane sent it to me, you know she used to hang here as luddy dunn.
Yeah that book was pretty good. And Karen was super nice. She'd go out of her way to help or give advice to anybody here.
Currently reading Silver Screen, by Justina Robson. It's good, yet hard to get into. But yeah interesting if you like AI and the question of where does man and AI begin/separate when they are combined.
Im reading Penny Dreadfull by Will Christopher Baer and Im thoroughly enjoying it so far.
franz kafka - diaries in selection:1910-1923 and Michel Houellebecq- the possibility of an island...

I'm 2/3 into Remainder
